The final sign in the Holdfast Bay area is on Arthur St leading into Gilbertson Gully. 06.01.2022 With her 1920s swimming costume and cap, the woman at the centre of this sculpture near Brighton jetty is actually Kitty Whyte a Brighton local who grew up at... Dunluce Castle, who was an accomplished swimmer and the recipient of a Royal Life Saving Society award after she saved a woman from drowning. Sadly, Kitty is also remembered as South Australias first shark attack victim, when she died in 1926 after being fatally attacked while swimming near Brighton jetty. Shes buried in the St Judes Cemetery at Brighton and in 2011, the City of Holdfast Bay commissioned the sculpture to honour Kitty and her love and passion for the sea. #throwbackthursday
