25.01.2022 Hunting on a new area this season in Aboriginal Arnhem Land Reserve. Back to a fully tented camp after 8 years at the Mainoru Store. Attached are a couple of photos of Camp Central at the 'Hilton on Wilton' beside the Wilton River, pictured is our open air central dining and kitchen area flanked by our Kitchen storage and Sonja and my accommodation and one of Sonja's famous luncheon salads.

24.01.2022 September 2019 Hilton on the Wilton Doing it tough! Our last meal before we finish packing up camp at the end of season 2019! A great year weather wise, cool to cold nights, around 12 C / 53 F and never over 32C / 83F. Some great buff taken and plenty of good times around the dinner table. Only downside - not too many barramundi caught from the river - too cold for them!

24.01.2022 Back in the NT enjoying the warmth after 4 months in Tassie. Got down to minus 6 the week before we flew out! Only thing I will miss until october is the fresh crayfish! Not true, on a nice sunny winter afternoon the Gardens and BBQ shack is a delight as this photo shows. We head out to Arnhem Land in a couple of weeks to set up camp for a limited season with Aussie and Kiwi hunters from Aug to mid Sept. How lucky are we that we can get out and about whilst the rest of the world lives through this nightmare, with a side serving of riots and vandelism thrown in for good measure in some cases! We have one vacancy remaing for our planned season. Minimum of a party of 2 hunters at the reduced prices we are offering. Want to get away from the cold? Contact me at [email protected] for details.

20.01.2022 Spent a day with Matt Kelman at his Carmor Plains reserve this weekend. Matt has decided to hang up his rifle and retire from the hunting game after 20+ years. So the property, the only truely world class hunting eastate in Australia will be sold and another legend departs the game. Biggest problem matt faces is transporting his pet ceocodile to his new home - will fly down to Queensland coast on a light twin. That man id fearless! Here is a photo of him feeding the croc. H...e said it was over 16ft and around 500 kg and had only grown about 4 inches in the 10 years he has had it. I said "How do you measure it ?" "I just straighten out the tail and mark the spot and note where it's front lip is. Then measure the distance. Easy !" He then proceeded to do just that as it was eating. Then he sits on the back of it! I was shitting myself so bad I forgot to get a photo. A charging buffalo can be coped with when you are holing a heavy rifle. A half tonne crocodile wins every time if it gets hold of you. Matt - you leave me speechless! See more

19.01.2022 June 11- Out of the bush from the Hilton on the Wilton and some good tropes in the salt. Having a few days in Katherine before we return. Big news! Sonja has now gone one month without smoking and not one bad word - Go Sonja!

18.01.2022 Had our friends Kerry and Peter look after camp for 10 days whislt we had a break this hunting season. "Was hard work Barry - flat out all of the time. No time for fishing - very boring and the barramundi and prawns were not biting so all in all a hard time." Then Kerry give me this little slide show. "Sure Guys - flat out, boring no spare time! Who are you kidding?"

16.01.2022 Something to Smile About! The corona virus has us all treading water with nowhere to go but I feel the end is in sight with very encouraging antibody test results in Germany, Sweden and the USA appearing to show that many, many, many more people than realised have contracted and survived this flu without any symptoms at all. In Sweden they estimate that over 60%, the threashld for herd immunity may be reached in Stolkholm in just a few weeks time! In short the Covid19 is loo...king more and more like a very contagious, but not extrordinay deadly strain of flu. However one of the upsides of this lockdown is the lack of impulse buying and general browsing that people engage in as they fear to venture out of their bunkers. Others, like myself, are somewhat less concerned about what "might" happen and are out and about more frequently. This lack of concern resuted in a lucky strike whilst visiting our local $1 shop this week. Little population movement over the past few weeks has resulted in a much lower uptake of Chocolate Easter Eggs and I happened upon an offer too good to refuse! "100 solid chocolate eggs total weight 1 Kilogram (That is 2.2 pounds for our American friends) for just 20CENTS (that is just $US 0.14)" I had 2 dollars in my pocket so I now have 20 kg / 22 lbs of chocolate, in the form of 2000 little colourfully wrapped eggs to munch on. Have a nice day!

10.01.2022 Back from shows in Germany and the USA. What a relief to wake up in your own bed after 30 days on the road! Looking forward to the coming hunting season on our new licence area at Mt Jean, Big thank you to Graham Williams of Australian Buffalo Hunters, who has hunted this area on and off over the past 20 years, for spending time with me going over the map and providing detailed info buffalo numbers and behaviour saving a lot of ground work for my ageing legs! More news on ano...ther friend and retired P.H. Matt Kelman, who shut up shop at Carmoor Plains after 20 years at the end of 2018. Matt went to South Africa to hunt cape buffalo lat year and ended up badly hurt in a follow up ancounter with a wounded dugga boy! Carrying a borrowed rifle and not being in the driver's seat of the tracking team may have contributed to slowing the reflexes and shot placement? Matt has penned a well written account to be published in Jagdzeit / The Hunters Path to be published next month. We still have one vacancy for this season early August - anyone interested can contact me for a very special discounted price to fill our book! See more

07.01.2022 August is here and our hunting season is almost finished for 2018. Some very nice trophies have been taken with a number f bulls topping the 100 SCI mark. However the most outstanding trophy belongs to a cow. The horns both measured 411/2 inches with an SCI score of 106! The photo attached show it along with a 104 SCI bull. The bull's massive bases pulled him over the 100 mark whilst cow's lenght did it.

06.01.2022 Just about to pack this season's trophies for export to our hunters. Here is a pic of Sonja with a massive buffalo cow shot by our last hunter this season. 6 ft spread and each horn 43 plus inches long - Yes 7 feet of horns! Very big animal, obviously quite old but in good condition with no calf.

01.01.2022 Off to Germany and the USA for the annual promotional shows this week. We live in exciting times - were suprised to lose our hunting area when it came up for renewal late September. However having spent 10 years living in the centre of Aboriginal Arnhem Land we have built up a lot of goodwill and are not short of contacts amongst the traditional owners. We quickly sourced a productive alternative just down the road for the next 4 years. Have been enjoying the cool summer dow...n in our new home in Tasmania (Yes the beautiful forested island at the bottom of Australia with the world's cleanest air.) One of the benefits of living in this beautiful part of the world is the ability to harvest one of the world's most delicious seafoods - Southern Rock Lobsters! Here is a photo of one that we are about to enjoy for dinner, I cooked it earlier today fresh from the sea! Life doesn't get any better than this! See more
