24.01.2022 ANOTHER PREMIERSHIP PLAYER LEAVES THE PACK. Rest In Peace FREDERICK IAN SIMPSON. The Club started the year saying goodbye to a Premiership Player & it hasn't got any better. Fred passed away almost a week ago on Tuesday the 25 th of August 2020. Unlike Brendan' s huge funeral Fred's was just a family affair because of this bloody virus.... Fred never the less was a member of the 1969 Reserves Premiership team the inaugural year of Reserves competition. Fred then became a member of the 1970 1 st Eighteen Premiership team plus a member of the 1971 Runners Up Side. Fred was a fleet footed wingman highly skilled & drifted down forward to kick an occasional goal. Fred played a total of 68 games 13 times in the best & kicked 4 goals but only managed 4 seasons. Unfortunately Fred had a difference of opinion with John Mc Carty & left the Club before the Gordon game on the 15 th July 1972. Fred was headed for Sebastopol but finished up taking up umpiring like his good mate Noel Thornton. The 3 photos, 1 he stands with Bill Innes Noel Thornton & Fred to watch training before the 2002 Grand Final. 2 Fred sits alongside Brendan O' Loughlin in the 1970 Premiership, just the 2 close up. The 3 rd is the complete side Fred is seated beaten Brendan O'Loughlin & William Dunstan. Grace & I were out to lunch towards the end of 2019 & we ran into Fred out to lunch himself. He told us both he had a minor problem that was being looked into & he should make a 50 years Reunion in 2020 if it was held. Well that minor problem must have been just a bit more serious. Our deepest sympathy to the greater Simpson Family. Gone but never forgotten. BUGGER.

24.01.2022 A BUNNY playing for HEPBURN. Firstly my apologies to the Lawlor family, I stated Jacob was at Creswick but it is in actual fact Jack Lawlor. The only Player from Buninyong to make his side's best 6 was young Jack Atkinson. Jack only played 3 quarters but had a ripper game until he took a very good hip & shoulder early in the last quarter & broke his collar bone. Jack speedy recovery mate. Was hoping to sneak a look at Creswick too. Dam , Dam,... Many thanks to the insider for keeping me informed. A couple of old timers were looking forward to watching him go round in the Seniors in 2020. Just a bit of insider information there. Stay safe & healthy all. See more

21.01.2022 HELLO NETBALLERS. Firstly happy Mothers Day to all the mums. Now these are the last 17 photos of nearly 1500 I have sorted through over last few weeks. Could I please just ask for some names from any lady who may know. Once I have names to a photo I will delete the photo so you will all know how I is all progressing. Thank you. Enjoy your day.... Many thanks to CAITLIN HUGHES, SHARYN KENNEDY & a NICOLE MARY for supplying names for me. TRULY APPRECIATED.

20.01.2022 BIRTHDAY GIRL. Well the last official visitor to the Burrow has turned 17 today. So Imogen Thorne happy Birthday to you from the Buggered Rabbit. Hope you had a beauty. By the way the only girlfriend I ever had was 17 when I met her.... See more

20.01.2022 ROYAL PARK RESERVE. At the weekend I asked my best mate Grace to get me out of the house. So we went for a drive but I had to say where I wanted to go. I just want to check out what I have heard about the old footy ground.... Well the City Council is very busy constructing a couple of Soccer Pitches for the Redbacks Soccer Club. Great to see after 13 years that area of so many memories for so many people now going to be put to some good use instead of the eyesore it was. Well done to the City Council. The Community Graden is confined to deep in the top forward pocket. Thank you to my informer for the information. See more

16.01.2022 A TRIBUTE TO CHRISTOPHER FRANCIS SCHAPER. Young Chris was just 45 Years of age & last Sunday the Buggered Rabbit was shocked & speechless when my good Friend STAN SCHAPER imformed of this dreadful piece of news that Chris had passed away during the night. Well 6 days have passed & after some tears I have been able to collect my thoughts & hopefully pay a special tribute to a very unique individual especially of the BUNINYONG FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB. Chris came to Buninyong as ...Continue reading

15.01.2022 MY APOLOGIES. Yesterday I put up a photo of what I thought was Tony Henderson. Well today I have tried again. This is the one I should have used yesterday. Have a good look at both. I don' t reckon Lynden Henderson trained as hard while he was at Rokewood. ... Thank you Rosie for setting me straight. See more

14.01.2022 SOME MEMORIES. I was taken for a drive yesterday 20 th August to have another look at the progress of Royal Park Reserve. Well as you can see looks like 2 Soccer pitches 1 running North & South the other East , West. The gardeners have finished up with probably 10 % of the Oval at the most. No trees left, & the pipe fence Len Coxall was boss of to install in the 1970's is finally gone. Well in 2006 I was quite critical of the Ballarat City Council for it's handling of the shift to the new Oval. Well 13 years on my hat is off to the Council common sense has prevailed all be it the only life on the Oval is some feeding Kangaroos. Some wonderful facilities these days. The Club will be 150 years old in 2025 let's hope we celebrate the occasion in style.

11.01.2022 BUNINYONG & SPRINGBANK. Good afternoon all readers. Just got back from 11 Sims Street Black Hill after having free Coffee with these 2 amazing young young men brought a couple of face masks while I was at it. 1 gentleman was our own Tim Brayshaw ( fantastic young man ) the other was Marty Anderson Springbank Premiership player. Turns out Marty is the son of Marilyn & Laurie Anderson. Very small place Ballarat worked with his mother Marilyn in the 1980's & dad played Tennis wi...th Yendon like myself but in played in a tennis Premiership with our eldest son SNOWY. Great check up for the Buggered Rabbit who needed a lift today. Thank you to Grace for taking me, thanks Connor O' Keefe. See more

10.01.2022 MORE RESEARCH FOR THIS ONE. REST IN PEACE . DON OGILVIE. 23/9/1924 - 25/8/2020. The Ogilvie family have had 170 year history with Buninyong. Hence a very old photo to help us all understand the connection.... From the records Don only played with the Club in 1947 therefore he is ph otographed at the last game at Royal Park Reserve with team mates Frank Louden & Bobby Bath. The photograph of the side features only 19 Players & no Don Ogilvie. The Players from left to right Ian Turner, Keith Innes, Ernie Eason, Donny Bath, Mick Mahoney, Trevor Coxall, George Cornell, Finlay Mc Naughton, Frank Louden, Bob Freeman, Bill Isaac, Les Trigg, Dick Turner, Owen Brennan, Herman George, Vin Scott, Minger Coxall, Ernie Rowarth ( Coach ) Mascot :- Charlie Bath. No Don Ogilvie but he was a big man as you can see ( maybe just missed the photo shot. I cannot tell you a lot about the man as I never met the man his sister however Jean married Sid Robertson who produced Barry Robertson a lad who made the No 8 Guernsey famous in the 60's double Premiership Player. Now the photograph of the 1905 side was presented to his father Councillor JOHN OGILVIE for his services to the Club as President in 1905. Don handed the photograph to Dawn Whykes which has finished in the Burrow with other important memorabilia. Looking at the photo behind the old Tin Shed he played when times were tough. The 1 person I know connected to the Ogilvie family is Nellie Robertson. But to all the Ovilgie family may I convey on behalf of the Buninyong Football Netball Club our deepest sympathy in these very difficult times. See more

06.01.2022 WAYNE MORGAN. The Buggered Rabbit needs some help please. This is the serious hard working Wayne Morgan. But there is always a lighter side to us all. I have included a Reserve Premiership photo.... Now my request. I in the past 12 months l spotted a photo of the man playing Netball dressed appropriately of course,I thought is was last year when Cricket & Footy got together. However I have learnt that it was after a Premiership win on a Sunday taken by 1 of the players. Could I please have a copy sent to me please. I can keep my big moth shut. Reason Buninyong F.N. C. Turns 150 years of age on the 12 th June 2025. Hopefully huge celebrations, I would just like to show the lighter side of a man who has been making a significant contribution to our Club for at least the last 20 years. See more

06.01.2022 26 YEARS AGO. Best & Fairest TONY HENDERSON SEASON 1994. Actually wrong again, it's a thick set LYNDEN HENDERSON returning to Buninyong after 2 years at Rokewood in 1995. Runners Up CRAIG THORNE. Never know what you will find amongst a couple of thousand photos.... Only short of photos of Bobbie Wilson & Bill Den Ouden to complete 50 years of senior Best & Fairests from 1959 to 2019. Feeling good. That was last feeling shit this morning. Hendo put on a little weight and grew some hair. See more

05.01.2022 THE GOOD TIMES.

04.01.2022 I think I know . Thank you.

02.01.2022 UNDER 12 FOOTBALL. Throughout my search of records I have often been told I am wrong when I write something up. My words to people who come at me with that line is simple produce the photo or article & I will gladly write a retraction. Sometimes though people like Bryan Bunney produce something like this 1969 Under 12 certificate that sends back to the old minute books. For in the book Bunny to a Bomber I have David Kelly & John Anwyl starting Under 12 's in Season 1972. Than...ks Bryan there was Under 12 in existence in 1969 but you only played when games could be arranged. Peter Trigg ( Captain) Don Jacobson ( Vice Captain) of Under 14's in the Ballarat Junior Football League which then became Under 15' s in 1970 in the Ballarat District League. Well done young fella you more than rattled my stumps. See more

01.01.2022 50 YEARS AGO TODAY. On this day the 6 th of September 1970 50 years ago Buninyong Football Club those days made some history when all 3 teams Under 15 ( 1 st year ) Reserves ( 2nd year ) Seniors all journeyed to Wendouree Oval ( Lake Wendouree ) to battle it out for a Premiership. Well 2 out of 3 was a good result I guess. ... Now the Reserves after winning the Premiership the year before took on Wendouree & were soundly beaten. Wendouree 19.19 def Buninyong 6.5. In the Under 15 Buninyong were victorious over Meredith. Now unfortunately the Courier at the time simply wrote " in the Under 15 Division Buninyong defeated Meredith " . Gavin Burke served as the Coach as well as the President. David Ward was Captain. The other players named in the paper Were :- Matthews, White, Tapscott, Innes, Frawley, Newitt, Trigg, Nicholls, Cartledge, Brown, P. Matthews, Brand , Frost, Hutchinson, Ward, Jacobson, Mc Kinnon, K. Coxall, B. Coxall, Martin, O' Loughlin, Handford. If you can count 22 named obviously 2 Missed out but they definitely won the Premiership. There are 22 in the photograph & some of the boy's were very small. 50 years on 1 st Junior Football Premiership. THE SENIORS. The 1970 Premiership was the Club's 5 th Flag & our 3 rd in 10 years. The result :- Buninyong 17.10 def Wendouree 12.15. Goalkickers :- Leo Mc Carty 5, Peter Tresize 3, Geoff Sewell 2, Stan Hunter 2, Ross Mc Gregor 2, Garry Bath 1, Brain Dunne 1 & Bill Dunstan 1. Best Players :- Peter Cartledge, Peter Tresize, Garry Bath, Geoff Sewell, Leo Mc Carty, Ross Mc Gregor. The Players :- Leo Mc Carty, Geoff Sewell, Vin O' Connor, Ross Mc Gregor, Paul Smith, Peter Cartledge, Brain Dunne, Les Furlong, Peter Tresize, Stan Hunter, Gavin Burke ( President ) Garry Bath, Ron Dow, Barry Robertson, Titch Lindsay, Bernie Lavery, Barry Madigan, Brendan O' Loughlin, Fred Simpson & Bill Dunstan. We had lost the 69 Grand Final by 2 points. We played Wendouree on their home turf ( we loved the ground ) Tony Vorstenbosch was a very good player at the team meeting we knew he had an injury " Bill Dunstan was vice Captain he simply said leave Tony to me ) the coach what do you mean he said never mind & Tony was out of the game early. Peter Cartledge was fullback, it was customary to shake hands before the game he had a lovely Pink Dummy which he put in John Hyde's hand before the game here suck on this you sook. Gameship, maybe Peter & Billy did their job. Me personally I was taken from the ground & in those days you were gone from the game. Brendan O' Loughlin said to me years after Stan why did you not attend the celebrations, because I did not make a contribution, you fool you kicked 2 goals. I pride myself in my memory, to this day the only thing I remember is Jim Seare punching me & John Mc Carty taking me from the ground.

01.01.2022 SOME MEMORIES TO SHARE. Not a lot for an old Bugger like myself to write about so far in a Football Netball Season that has just been put on hold. However Friday 29/5/2020 Kyle Evans of the Courier aroused me from my complacency with this article & photograph of ERIN RILEY. You see back in Season 1988 Erin's mum HELEN RILEY played Netball under their Coach Kaye Buckingham some 32 years ago. Now Erin & her sister Sally gave some joy to a Hydroponic Tomatoe grower at Yendon in... the mid 90's being me. Both these very cute little girls loved their own bag of Tomatoes each Sunday they came with their mother when Helen brought her weekly or fortnightly fix of Tomatoes. We grew a variety called Sweet Bites, a very small sweet cheery Tomatoes. The 2 girls loved them I think. So Erin I do hope I see you in the Red & Black in the 2020 Season. ????? See more
