25.01.2022 Hi all, BugLife is still open for business. Ive got plenty of enclosures, kits, spinys, goliaths and strongs here at the moment but given the current situation Ill be doing front porch pick-ups only for the foreseeable future. Stay positive and wash your hands x Ashley
24.01.2022 I've been playing Animal Crossing for awhile now and today this happened... I was more that just a little excited I think Flick the insect collector may actually be my spirit animal!

22.01.2022 Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Half way through packing the pre orders, they just need stickies added next week. 3 dlx and 2 starter kits still available.
22.01.2022 The buglife family are away on holiday for the next 10 days but Ill reply to messages when I can. Fear not, Ill be back onboard on the 30th to supply term 1 classroom orders.
20.01.2022 Such an exciting morning! I visited Critters Up Close at Mandurah Forum and delivered their first batch of deluxe Bug Life kits! They have an awesome display and education centre, plus the team are a wealth of knowledge. Plus, they are now stocking the Bug Life kits so customers in the southern suburbs will no longer have to make the trek to Lesmurdie or pay for post. Oh, and they have an actual baby crocodile!! ... https://www.facebook.com/crittersupclose/
19.01.2022 This regal lady did her final moult last night. Check out her awesome colours and that dainty little crown on her head. There wasn't much imagination used when they were named Lichen Morph Crowns! If you've got a sharp eye you'll also have noticed that one of her wings isn't sitting flat. That's a very mild 'bad moult'. Don't worry, she will be fine, she doesn't use her wings anyway. It does give me a chance to demonstrate interesting stick insect fact #3497 though. Stick insects have blue blood! She really is royal
19.01.2022 There was a wolf among my flock! This little carnivore must have hitched a ride into my hatchling enclosure on some leaves. Back outside with you!
18.01.2022 Ive been playing Animal Crossing for awhile now and today this happened... I was more that just a little excited I think Flick the insect collector may actually be my spirit animal!
18.01.2022 Netflix and egg hunting. If youd told me a few years ago that sorting through insect poo would soon be my happy place Id never have believed you. Oh, and the competition is still open! Visit the buglife page to enter
18.01.2022 Heads Up: according to the internet Play School today will have stick insects! The episode will be on iView too: Baby Animals 3. https://www.abc.net.au/abcforkids/sites/playschool/
17.01.2022 Counting the sticks, checking them twice Ive got almost 80 insects ready for their new homes next week! If you placed a pre-order then by now you should have an invoice and an email regarding Christmas pick up arrangements. If you havent received them please message me asap so that I can fix it up for you.
17.01.2022 Hey bug lifers, I'd love your input on a couple of things I've been toying with. 1 - Ant keeping kit with a queen ant. Yay or nay? I've been hesitating over this one for awhile because ants are harder to keep than stick insects and you've got to provide them protein (ie kill crickets) so they are not everyone's cup of tea. 2 - Monarch butterfly kit. I've always dismissed the idea of doing these because their food plant (narrow leaf cotton bush/milk weed) is a declared pest in... Perth. However, I've recently discovered that there is another variety of milkweed that they will eat, which is not a pest. It'll be a bit of a process to set up production though. Would people be willing to pay for a kit when raising the caterpillars is quite a short term project? Ta! Ashley

16.01.2022 This absolute stunner shed her skin over night. She's turned an amazing burgandy colour I haven't seen in my Goliaths before. It's almost a shame that next time she sheds she'll be all grown up, loose this colour, and turn green. If you haven't tried them yet I've got lots of young Goliaths at the moment
15.01.2022 This is a great project to get involved with and now is a good time to be looking ants anyway as quite a few nuptial flights happen at this time of year so you might also spot a queen.
15.01.2022 I am yet to get a really good video of a sticky shedding so here is one from YouTube which shows it really well https://youtu.be/Kya5Bfndczc
15.01.2022 Only 16 days until Christmas If you've been thinking about getting a kit please message the page asap. There have been lots of pre-orders already, I've only got 9 left!
15.01.2022 Well, Im calling it. Christmas orders are now closed! Spiny pairs and kits are sold out until the new year If you are desperate for an invert before 2020 I do still have some small lichen crowns and some queens available.... Also, if anyone in the southern suburbs is still looking for a sticky kit Critters Up Close re-stocked today. They have a super convenient location at Mandurah Forum too. https://www.facebook.com/crittersupclose/

14.01.2022 Hi All I'm currently all sold out. I have lots of hatchlings growing though, they should be ready in about a month. I had a big rush on kits when the covid shut downs first started and we were all scrambling to find learning resources for our kids. ... If you would like to be added to the waiting list please send me a message. As the babies get big enough I'll contact people in order of their enquiries. If you are a previous customer who has raised too many babies, and would like to sell some back to me, we should chat
13.01.2022 I have a new favourite nature presenter. If you've got some time to waste Ann's page is well worth a scroll through! https://www.facebook.com/AnnJonesABC/ Edit: and the comp is still open
12.01.2022 Our world is changing daily and it seems that, as someone who is not in healthcare or another critical job, the best thing I can do is stay home and keep out of the way. If you are doing the same with your kids there are some buggy learning resources in my public folder that might help stave off the boredom for an afternoon or two: https://drive.google.com//1PWuHbWEY9eoZggD4kj160QFW0Fd1A_L4... If you want to start a buggy adventure I'm also discounting dlx kits to $60 until further notice. With online payment and no-contact porch pick ups I'm able to keep spreading the insect love without risking anybody.
12.01.2022 Well, I always know that spring has sprung when I get 4 different species hatching in 1 day! They are Strong, Crown, Goliath and Spiny species. These little ones will be ready to go around Christmas time.
12.01.2022 This is at real time speed! A drop of honey causes so much excitement! If there is an ant farm (formicarium in ant lingo) under your Christmas tree then getting an established queen with workers will give you the best chance of success. I have a few available, message me for info

07.01.2022 Hi Everyone. I'm sorry I've been so quiet recently. I don't raise many nymphs in my cold old house over winter. If you are on the waiting list I'll be contacting you shortly as things are finally starting to ramp up and I have a few insects ready to go now. I do have some exciting news though. I'm collecting a batch of juvenile Titan Stick Insects on the weekend. These beauties are the second largest stick insect in Australia! If you'd like to put your name down for a pair please let me know, there will only be about 20 pairs available.
07.01.2022 So many queens! Too many infact. They were caught in September after their nuptial flight and have been really successful. I'll be releasing them later in the week unless anyone would like a freebie?

05.01.2022 Holidays are done and the kids are safely deposited back at school so I finally got some quality bug time today! Everything grew so much while we were away. Strongs, GOLIATHS and a few Spinys are all ready now. Message for info :-) Check out these mother daughter shots. I love the little GOLIATHS, they are the perfect 'sticky' stick insect and the colour change when they mature is spectacular!

04.01.2022 Hey crew, Ive been toying with the idea of doing some insect related art supplies. I dont actually have the time to do it yet, but Im too excited about what I found not to share it. I think you could do some really cool things with these. Hatched stick insect eggs and nature findings would go well with them too. Real Scarab Beetle Wings: https://www.ebay.com.au//50-Pre-Drilled-Gree/133089872005... Real Butterfly Wings: https://www.ebay.com.au//100Pcs-Real-Butterf/283486690906 *I take absolutely no responsibility for these listings, I literally just found them scrolling through ebay. If you happen to buy some for your own projects please let me know what you think of them :-)

03.01.2022 Heat wave incoming Just like other pets insects need some extra care in this extreme weather. Make sure their enclosure is in a nice cool spot in your house and give them some extra sprays of water too. Stay cool team!
02.01.2022 Here is a little edutainment for hump day. This beautiful video tells the story of the Lord Howe phasmid - a relative of the stick insects species in our Bug Life kits. The Lord Howe phasmid was though to be extinct, but they were found again in a single bush on the side of a cliff! https://vimeo.com/76647062

01.01.2022 Can I just say how much I love you guys! After selling out earlier in the week I had people sharing my post and checking with their insects keeping friends all over the place. I've been able to buy a big batch of goliaths and some spinys so we are back in business peeps! I even had a previous customer gift a little handful of young spinys to me. I think I ought to pay it forward so keep an eye out for a giveaway comp this evening! X Ashley
