Meet Michelle of A Fresh Touch Interiors ... Q1. Tell us about you! What brought you to the Mornington Peninsula? Michelle: A sea-change - we decided to do it earlier than planned. We rented out our properties in Melbourne and rented down here in Tootgarook. We said wed give it 12 months and if we didnt like it we could go back ....3 weeks in, we were hooked! Q2. How do you like to live? Michelle: Very casual....I love the beach and get there just about every day for a walk with my fur buddy, Wilbur, love having family and friends around. Weve now got a vegetable & flower garden happening and I love to potter in the garden. Q3. Whats the highlight of your working week? Michelle: I love an interesting project... something a bit quirky or different. I also feel very chuffed when past clients contact me for their next project - Its a nod to the fact that I did well last time we worked together. Q4. Describe your business in 20 words no more! Michelle: I prefer not to follow trends instead create spaces and scheme that suit the client, their brief & lifestyle. Q5. What do you do on a Saturday? Michelle: A slow start to the day generally. Hubby has already headed off to golf, so (pre - lockdown), Id head off to some of the local farm gates to pick up my fruit/vege & other goodies for the week. I often visit lovely shops and grab an almond milk chai (and perhaps a treat to go with it)....sometimes on my own, sometimes with a girlfriend. Meet Nicci of Tapir Design and Planning... https://www.buildingdreamsgroup.com.au/post/nicci-foster Q1. Tell us about you! What brought you to the Mornington Peninsula? Nicci: We moved to the Peninsula in 2009 as we needed somewhere with acreage to lease for the horses and sheep. We were attracted to the beauty, culture, food and access to the city. Q2. How do you like to live? Nicci: Quietly, sustainably, and with as much joy as possible. Q3. Whats the highlight of your working week? Nicci: Paying my staff. I know that might sound weird but I love that the crazy idea I had to start a business provides an income for others. Q4. Describe your business in 20 words tap, no more! Nicci: Design that respects site context, that is beautiful and thoughtful and planning advice that seeks to be simple and thorough. Q5. What do you do on a Saturday? Nicci: I feed my horses, complete Uni work, clean the house, eat great food and drink cocktails with my husband (and friends or family when not in lockdown), go shopping (when not in lockdown) and try and read non-uni or work related materials. I also love the cinema and just relaxing with my husband who I adore. Q6. Whats your favourite house or garden trend at the moment? Nicci: Passive house design, our head architect is about to embark on a course so we can formally add this focus to our toolkit. Q7. Your proudest business moment? Nicci: Every time I see a design completed in-house and marvel at how beautiful it is. And every time we get a planning permit approved. I never tire of either feeling. Dan McQuinn of District Consulting Q1. Tell us about you! What brought you to the Mornington Peninsula? Dan: I’m one of the lucky ones that grew up down here! As a lawyer, it was basically a rite of passage to move to Melbourne and work crazy hours in a big firm. After a few years up in town working, I moved back a few years ago and couldn’t be happier! Q2. How do you like to live? Dan: I’m an outgoing person, but when I’m at home I like to live a bit more of a quiet life. I love learning and self-improvement, so I am fairly introspective at home and like the simple things: time on the couch with my fiancée after a day at work, walks on our local beach, and cooking a great meal. Q3. What’s the highlight of your working week? Dan: Getting a great outcome for a client! Sometimes that might be a planning permit, or a positive decision out of VCAT they’re some great moments. Other times, it can be something more subtle, like finding a new, unique ways to solve a client’s problem. Q4. Describe your business in 20 words , no more! Dan: It’s quite unique we offer town planning and legal services under the one roof. We’re all about achieving great outcomes. Q5. What do you do on a Saturday? Dan: Go for walks with my beautiful fiancée, grab a coffee, and spend time at the beach (if the weather permits!). Q6. What’s your favourite house or garden trend at the moment? Dan: I really enjoy watching the eco-friendly space. I love seeing the technology evolve over time, to become more accessible (and sought after) and more effective. It’s exciting to see! Q7.Your proudest business moment? Dan: Launching District Consulting during a pandemic, and growing it to where it is today. I’m really proud of where I’ve been able to get my business in a short timeframe, even during a global pandemic. I like to think that this success reflects my passion, and the results that I deliver to my clients Q8. What do you secretly wish clients knew? Dan: That unfortunately planning involves a lot of discretion from decision-makers (Council, usually) which means there are simply no guarantees. That said, having the right person on your side to manage the process can be a big help. Q9. If you were a house which one would you be? And why? Dan: Hmm That’s a tough one! I think I’d be a brownstone walk-up in Brooklyn. I love New York, and especially love the streetscapes in Brooklyn. I started this business when my youngest was 2 weeks old! Very accidental but its been the best ride ever. He is about to turn 12 so thats exciting to see just how much Ive achieved in the last 12 years. Q2. How do you like to live? Stacey: Id love to be able to live a champagne lifestyle, however my husband is always there to pull me back into line & back to reality! We enjoy our busy family life as a Brady bunch of 6! Q3. Whats the highlight of your working week? Stacey: There is so many! I love seeing the end result after my fitters have been in & seeing how happy my customers are with everything. Q4. Describe your business in 20 words Q1. , no more! Stacey: We create the WOW for your windows! Great customer service & after sales service. Honest & driven & love what I do. Q5. What do you do on a Saturday? Stacey: Ha! Pre-lock down, each Saturday would involve 1 x 8.15am tennis match 1 x 10.30am tennis match 1 x 9am netball game & an arvo basket ball match thrown in too! Summer time you can add a cricket game or 2! The joys of 4 kids. I also go out quoting every second Saturday. Q6. Whats your favourite house or garden trend at the moment? Stacey: Sheer curtains! Traditional exteriors with a modern twist. Q7. Your proudest business moment? Stacey: Buying the factory & creating the showroom! After 10 years of working from home & out of my car, its so good having my own work space! Q8. What do you secretly wish clients knew? Stacey: The workmanship that goes into custom made blinds, curtains or awnings - versus off the rack, stock standard ready to hang items.
