25.01.2022 BERA - celebrating Job number 1000 . #longlunch #workperks

24.01.2022 The NatHERS Software is a terrific tool that is useful for so much more than just providing the 6.0 Star Energy Efficiency Compliance for Council. BERA is currently working on a number of jobs for clients where we are modelling up to 50 different scenarios of the design using different colours, insulation levels, shading etc. Our clients are then able to see pretty accurately what the effect of these alternatives are on the thermal performance of the dwelling. All of the results are provided to our clients in a spreadsheet so they can then compare the options and weigh up the cost and effort required for the gains made to make an informed decision about how they want to improve the thermal comfort and Energy Efficiency of their dwelling. This exercise is useful for both new builds and existing buildings.

23.01.2022 With the new NCC 2019 legislation coming into effect on Friday, it is important to be aware of what is changing and what that means for builders and assessors. In our latest article, we have detailed some of the upsides and downsides that the new legislation brings. http://bera.com.au//legislation/140-what-s-new-in-ncc-2019

21.01.2022 Good news for Energy Efficient Homebuilders: Bank Australia are offering a 0.4% discount on loans for new builds or renovations if certain Energy Efficiency criteria are met. BERA is currently working on a job for a client in Queensland, and the good news is that Bank Australia are happy to accept a NatHERS assessment in lieu of a Residential Efficiency Scorecard rating if the property is located outside of Victoria. Contact BERA for more information, and we could help you ...save tens of thousands of dollars off your mortgage. https://www.bankaust.com.au//home-l/clean-energy-home-loan

20.01.2022 It's a good morning when your 11 year old makes you a coffee (Covid 19 school@home perks) and you get to answer a favourite question for a client: "How can I make my home more energy efficient?" They are already meeting the BASIX minimums, but want to consider a wide range of options in order to make their Sydney home more thermally comfortable and energy efficient. The AccuRate Sustainability software we use enables us to predict just how much improvement each measure gives, in terms of Star Ratings and predicted energy use in MJ/m2.pa.

18.01.2022 An excellent article on the current state of play in Energy Efficient homes.

18.01.2022 This project is using ambitious NatHERS Star rating targets for new NSW government social housing. A win for the tenants and the environment. https://www.cefc.com.au//cefc-backs-housing-plus-with-21-/

16.01.2022 We could not have said it better, so we are sharing.

15.01.2022 BERA & Covid-19 Work Arrangements. Like many in our industry, we are keen to keep working and enable others to keep working and stay in employment. Here at BERA, we are able to conduct almost 100% of our work remotely, so it is Business As Usual. We look forward to continuing to serve our clients (with the possible addition of some teenagers answering phones and making coffees!). We wish you all the best in changing work environment.

15.01.2022 We understand that the post-bushfire rebuild process is a long one, and that obtaining Energy Efficiency compliance is just one small part of the process. BERA's Assessor Accrediting Organisation is based in Victoria, and we are pleased to be involved in their response to the post-fire rebuilding of homes. However, we want to also offer our support to existing and new clients who are rebuilding post bushfire (outside of Victoria) by offerring super-low cost* Energy Efficie...ncy Assessments to those affected. Feel free to share with those you know who may be in this position * We are aiming to provide these pro-bono, but may need to charge certificate costs or other small costs, which will be assessed on a case by case basis.

15.01.2022 Designers of homes and offices are thinking about future pandemic implications on designs

15.01.2022 New Energy Efficiency legislation was introduced in May 2020. We are hearing from clients that some Certifiers are advising that the Section J method of assessment is no longer suitable and they should pay for the (more expensive) JV3 instead. Is this the case? Read the following blog to find out our experience 6 months down the track. https://www.bera.com.au//ncc-2019-section-j-assessments-r/

14.01.2022 Section J, NCC 2019 Energy Efficiency changes are coming into mandatory effect on 1st May 2020. More detail about the coming changes can be found in our latest blog article, linked below. http://bera.com.au//136-changes-to-deem-to-satisfy-energy-

06.01.2022 Feeling a bit cool? Insulating between your garage and the rest of your home can be an effective way to increase your home's thermal comfort. Contact us at BERA to find out how else you can maximise your home's thermal comfort.

05.01.2022 And here's one we did the Energy Rating for: A super Energy Efficient Mod Con Tiny home that will hopefully be the first of many. We modelled it over 100 times varying materials, orientation, colours etc in order to get the best result. We were able to increase it from 0 Stars to 9.0 Stars, which was a great result. http://www.modconlife.com/

03.01.2022 The most extensive changes in the NCC 2019 legislation are to the Walls and Glazing elements of an assessment. With this legislation coming into play on the 1st of May, 2020, it is important that assessors are familiar with the changes. 03.01.2022 With the cold winds whipping through some homes at the moment, we thought it would be a good time to link to a previous blog post we did, which talks about the benefits sealing your home against cold drafts.
