25.01.2022 Sometimes parents ask if we follow the EYLF (Early Years Learning Framework or Montessori? Well the answer is, we follow both! The EYLF is like the foundation of a building. The supports might look the same whether you are building a home, an office or a very ornate chook pen. The EYLF forms a platform that is very consistent with the values of Montessori, and we sit the Montessori curriculum upon that. The educators make their decisions (both those documented and those moment by moment interactions) upon EYLF, Montessori and the current situation.

24.01.2022 FLOATERS by Vicki McKinnon Oh how we adore our floaters They are the oil of child care motors... They join a room at a moments notice As chore machines and children doters. We see how much they are adaptable Always calm and most unflappable. With everyone they are so comfortable Filling whatever needs are workable. So thank you dear float educators For being childrens demonstrators And messy rooms our restorators Our favourite BFM participators!

23.01.2022 How lucky are we!! Our great friend Nate came in to our Blackstone centre today to lead our ANZAC ceremony. His performance was amazing! #lestweforget

22.01.2022 Sometimes we think Montessori is all about inside - but Montessori advocated for a well-rounded range of experiences of life.

22.01.2022 Why not indeed! http://mariovalle.name/montessori/why-not.html

20.01.2022 Building Futures is our name and our focus. Children, Families, Educators, Community.

20.01.2022 Interested in studying Montessori?

17.01.2022 The work of Lillard is most significant and supports our value of Montessori education. https://parenting.nytimes.com/presch/montessori-preschools

16.01.2022 When we can label feelings, we can understand and cope with them better. Young children might only have the inner segments, many people the middle level. Speech Therapy includes assisting children with being able to label their feelings and find the language to communicate how they feel. I really liked this graphic, and give credit to the website listed. We can help our children understand their feelings better (and probably even understand ours a little better too!)

16.01.2022 I very much enjoyed this video showing the impact that Early Years education in an integrated model is having in one of Queenslands remote and disadvantaged communities. Its lovely to see the Montessori approach being embraced across settings and cultures around the world. http://www.puuya.foundation/our-projects/kuunchi-kakana/

15.01.2022 Our company has been undertaking drug testing for about five years. We do this to ensure the safety and well-being of children in our care. Our educators are explained this at induction and aware that maintaining their drug-free performance is essential to keep their job.

15.01.2022 Will be looking forward to buying my copy!

14.01.2022 Sometimes as adults, we might need to regulate ourselves first, but to support a child's development into a less-reactive future this is a great article. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend with your children! Vicki.

14.01.2022 As early childhood teachers, our practice relies on good research to properly inform what works well for children. We are very fortunate that Maria Montessori's observations and theories were so 'spot on' and continue to be affirmed today. It is important that research continues to occur and this research study is very pertinent to issues of our age. Please consider supporting the important work of research in early childhood and participating in this study. https://redcap.ihbi.qut.edu.au/surveys/

14.01.2022 Today CEO, Vicki McKinnon presented a three hour workshop for Montessori educators across Australia. The workshop focussed on principles for the three elements of the Prepared Environment - indoor, outdoor and the transformed adult.

13.01.2022 Really enjoying the growth and developments in our businesses this year. Also love the opportunity to provide internal professional pathways for our educators - Building Futures!

13.01.2022 Wonderful to celebrate another decade hero. Courtney has reached the milestone of ten years of service at our Wavell Heights centre!

13.01.2022 People ask us why we are so proud of our centres. I always answer that it is in the quality of our teams. Why would our teams be better than in other centres? Did you know we: * Have a dedicated recruitment specialist in Rachel who is bachelor qualified and specifically trained to source people for our company and our culture * Require our staff to do double the amount of training to deliver programs because they do both regular Early Childhood and Montessori addi...tionally - yes, we fund/sponsor and support this training. * Regularly drug test to ensure our people are not under the influence whilst caring and educating the children * Are genuinely 'family owned and operated' in that the family members are operationally involved in the businesses, leading the leaders, troubleshooting issues and envisioning our future directions. Whilst Early Childhood centres are very 'human' places, at Building Futures we endeavour to build supports that best equip the educators to provide the best educational experience we can for those precious little people. Vicki.

12.01.2022 Its only a week until the CEO sleepout which I have undertaken to do on behalf of Building Futures. As I have been through a divorce myself - I am fully aware of just how quickly circumstances can change, and how easily people can end up unable to provide a home for their family. For several months I stayed with my brother and his family with my children. I was lucky. Others less so. We cant always know what life will throw at us and it is a relief to know that th...ere are people and organisations willing to help. Please consider helping - whether you have in mind a victim of domestic violence like Catherine on the Vinnies page, older unemployed women, who are increasingly in the statistics, or someone with mental health issues. Please help. I am supposed to reach a 5K fundraising limit, but even just 1K makes a big difference (and I must reach this to participate). https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraiser/vickimckinnon See more

12.01.2022 Hello, is it you were looking for?

12.01.2022 "Montessori students significantly outperformed their peers on math and English language arts (ELA) tests" We arent just blowing our own trumpet! Great to see research starting to accumulate around the benefits of Montessori. Have you considered a Montessori schooling pathway for your children beyond child care?

12.01.2022 Monday is 150 years since the birth of girl in Italy. A girl who had a drive that took her to an all-boys school to gain university entry, a drive that pushed her to be the first woman in Italy to graduate Medicine, a drive that gave her the courage to go into Uni labs at night for anatomy study on cadavers as the male students didnt want a woman with them as they studied the naked human form. This drive took her into asylums to make a difference for people. This drive ma...de her refuse marriage as she would have had to give up her work. This drive led her to study what would improve the human condition from infancy and led her into revolutionizing education. This drive saw her make theories and test theories about human development and human nature that stand the test of time and remain supported by ongoing research in education today. Her name? Maria Montessori. Her legacy? 22,000 schools in 100 countries with the children whove emerged and taken their place in the world. Education for Peace, needed now more than ever. Happy Birthday Maria Montessori. Im going to have a piece of cake on Monday. See more

09.01.2022 This thought provoking image is worth pondering. We give so much of ourselves to support the child to grow the adult - but likewise we learn much of who we are through the experience of parenthood.

06.01.2022 So delighted to find that Moah - Early Childhood Teacher at the Forest Lake centre - has her own Youtube channel where she shares about her work. She is developing an audience in Korea. It is wonderful to see our approach being used to encourage and support practice in other parts of the world. Moah says to stay tune - English subtitles coming soon! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hyGRhpM70Y

06.01.2022 My teacher training years ago emphasised the link between the interactions that the children experience with teachers, with the way teaching staff are treated by their leaders. Today our leaders experienced the wisdom of Table Group, founded by Patrick Lencioni who wrote The Five Dysfunctions of a Team and delivered by Matt Lashbrook, exploring what makes a healthy company. We are dedicated to ensuring a positive culture within Building Futures.

06.01.2022 Nap time can be a contentious matter in Early Childhood. But even middle childhood seems to show benefits in some circumstances...
