14.01.2022 When you are thinking of doing a renovation or extension there are many things to consider. One thing that is often overlooked and can come around and bite you later on if not considered at the planning stage is how your renovation or extension is going to blend in with the existing house. Im sure youve seen that old "Lean To" extension that looks like it was just tacked onto the back of a house. ... Do you know why it looks like that, why it looks so obvious? Poor planning, really poor planning. With a little fore thought and proper consideration at the begining of the project could have turned a nightmare into a dream job. Lets get to why it can bite you. When an renovation and/ or extension stands out like this it usually means it doesnt look like part of the original house. This often leads to a much lower re-sale price when/ if in the future you decide to sell. If not blended in with the original home to suit the original or new design then extra costs can be lost due to the actual construction method used. 05.01.2022 Another Successful Repair! We recently completed a repair job for the guys at Realway Realty in Hervey Bay. A tenant in one of their rental properties accidently reversed a moving van into the fascia and guttering of the house they were moving out of. ... Not only was this a pain for Realway and the tenant but the landlord was left with a pretty sizeable dent to his investment property. Not to worry, Build Plus was on the job and had the repair completed in 1 days. The guys at Realway Realty were great to work with and Megan was very professional which always makes the job a smooth one to complete. Looking forward to working with them again.

05.01.2022 Picking the Wrong Trade for the Right Job. A common mistake I see many clients make is choosing a trade to do a job they arent either qualified to do or dont have the right tools to do the job. Why does this happen? Usually its because of a lack of understanding on the clients behalf on knowing what it is they actually need doing. It also has to do with trade shortage and trades wanting to get a job to pay the bills. ... All totally understandable, but generally will leave the client with a bigger bill in the end run. A couple of simple and easy things a client can do before engaging a treade to do a job for them is; 1. Check the trades qualifications. 2. Check a couple of the previous jobs the trade has done. 3. Talk with clients that the trade has previously worked for. This would seem common sense, but in a rush to secure a trade to get a job done these 3 simple steps can be looked over. A costly mistake if not checked first. Even before you go down the avenue of looking at qualifications, checking work or talking with others about the trade youre thinking of hiring, you can just ask the trade for this info. If the trade hesitates to give it to you or gives you an excuse why they cant give it to you, Id think twice about hiring them. If youre a good trade, and you take pride in your work then letting future clients know about previous work youve completed is one of the best ways to secure a job. As a professional tradesperson, your previous jobs should be your best referral for getting future work. If a trade doesnt pony up addresses or phone numbers of previous clients/ jobs they have done before, alarm bells should start ringing!
