25.01.2022 Today is #worldmentalhealthday in 2020 mental health has gotten more attention then ever before. But sadly the stigma persists, and yet the stats tell us that even if you haven’t experienced a mental illness first hand you know someone who has. Mental Illness DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE, it can impact anyone, anytime. ... No matter who you are we all have mental health!! Getting help when your mental health isn’t so great can be challenging and feel overwhelming. Keep encouraging and supporting those who gather the strength to say they are struggling. Looking after our mental health is as important as looking after our physical health. On world mental health day we are asked to make a #mentalhealthpromise a small thing that we will do for our own mental health. My mental health promise: Get outside for fresh air every single day! It’s easy for the day to slip by without feeling fresh air on your skin, but I know that it makes a huge difference to my mood. What’s your mental health promise? #wmhd #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #healthincludesmentalhealth #2020 #awareness #worldmentalhealthday #worldmentalhealthday2020 #builtlikeme

25.01.2022 A Who Am I story.... I am a huge believer in focusing on a young persons strengths!!!! My own experience always reinforces this.... I have embarrassingly messy handwriting and am terrible at spelling. (My friends and family can attest to this.) Many years ago when I was a year 12 student I was beside myself that these weaknesses would destroy my chances of getting into the Occupational Therapy course I had my heart set on. Lucky for me I happened to get an amazing English teacher that year. He focused on my strengths, validated my fears and helped me come up with a plan. He pointed out that while I wasn’t going to get any marks for spelling or grammar, they only accounted for 5 out of 100 marks available. He told me I was more then capable of getting the other 95. He helped me grow my strengths and focus on the 95 marks I could get. I will never forget the terror of opening my year 12 results. I will never forget the joy that overtook that when I realised that not being able to spell hadn’t taken my Uni dreams away. 4 years of undergraduate studies, 3 years of post grad study, 12 years of clinical practice and working with hundreds of young people later and I am still thankful to the adults that focused on using my strengths to overcome my struggles. 16.01.2022 Recently I’ve had some wonderful young people start working on improving their #interoception via Telehealth!! Starting anything new in therapy is hard, but doing it via Telehealth is even harder!!! Young people really are leading the way in adjusting to a more virtual world. Special shout out to the wonderful mums I get to work with who have become default therapy assistants in these sessions. They are joining in on sessions, collecting and setting up all the materials for... they sessions, helping young people stay on track all while still being mum!! (Being the ‘mum therapist’ is just as hard, if not harder then being the ‘mum teacher’ with remote learning. Magically these women along with thousands of parents/ grandparents around the world are doing both. #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #parents #parentingishard #interoception #emotionalregulation #virtual #telehealth #celebratesuccess #recognition #melbourne #lockdown #iso #OT #mentalhealth

15.01.2022 Sadly the wonderful organisation SJI Autism & Carer Support will soon be closing their doors. I can not thank Kate and the team enough for the support they have provided me over the journey. SJI have provided such amazing support to so many families and will be greatly missed. I look forward to maintain and building the relationships I have made in my time at the Hub.... For my clients I will be in touch with what this means for face to face sessions once restrictions lift.
