24.01.2022 To my Japanese martial arts friends, this is the exact equivalent to receiving menkyo kaiden. Traditionally in the Philippines there where no formal gradings, your name, reputation and how tough you where was your grading. But to modernize many styles have implemented grading a syllabus. Make no mistake, eskrima is taught one on one or in very small groups, this is how its done and how it continues to be done in Cebu. This is a great honor for me to be recognised by the last winning duelist in the Philippines Antonio Irogirog Alingasa Sr, who was a good friend of Tatay Carlos Navarro.

18.01.2022 Soke regarding shuto 1994 UK Taikai

17.01.2022 In the summer of 2014 Someya sensei allowed me to film him performing Tameshigiri during a private invite only training session at his home dojo. Someya sensei will sometimes invite students for Tameshigiri sessions, all aspects of tameshigiri is taught including how to prepare the targets/tatami mats, how to cut etc Someya sensei is known for his swordsmanship skills, he is strict and follows the densho correctly as he was taught. He will not allow anyone under 5th dan to a...ttend tameshigiri sessions and has made no exceptions for this in the past. So for anyone lucky enough to train in Tameshigiri with sensei it will certainly improve your test cutting and budo in general. Someya sensei asked me to share this video at the time, I shared a low res version of the 2nd cut a few years ago. Here is the hi res. Regards and Good Training to all

16.01.2022 Soke and myself back in september 2016 Credit to Rob Baards Superhuman Quest. Buy the dvd now.

15.01.2022 A terrific article by Shidoshi ho Ross Parish. Shihan Mick Morrison was given his 15th dan by Soke Hatsumi last month. Unfortunately, Shihan Mick lost his battle with cancer. Shihan Mick trained till the very end, showing the true spirit of ninpo.... For anyone in the Taree/Port Macquarie region. The Mid North Coast Bujinkan Dojo is the best and ONLY place where you should train at.

15.01.2022 I thought I would share this. I have an original copy of a small but important manual "Art of Attack and Defence" by Major Elliot. Published in 1 edition only in 1884. This manual is extremely rare and a few years ago I managed to get my hands on this original from a fellow collector friend in the USA. This manual is important as Major Elliot wrote this late in his life and it outlines what he had learned from various masters in the early 1800s and what he personally used throughout his distinguished service for the crown. My particular interest in this manual was due to the pugilism and singlestick and sabre information, all of which is fantastic and a true link to the past.

15.01.2022 A skilled attacker with a knife will more than likely parry your counter; here is an unedited short class explanation on the orabes heneral system of some of the basic counters to parrying. Im using GM Abrians old aluminium training dagger in this clip. The techniques are practical and very direct and based on dueling from the past. Come join us for training.

14.01.2022 These are a few techniques demonstrated by Tony Diego of Illustrisimo. The video was given to me by my late friend Alex Co back in 2005 at his hardware store in Manila.

14.01.2022 It was a special night for me tonight at the dojo, I was formally awarded with the menkyo for Ysh Shihan, with the possibility of a typhoon few people ma...de it to Sokes class tonight which was fantastic for those who attended. Looking back I have spent over 70% of my life so far in the Bujinkan and I will continue to as Soke says keep going. Now its time to train smarter than ever before ;)

13.01.2022 https://zoehinis.com/2016/08/13/returning-to-the-dojo/ An excellent article for the wanting to come back to training after a long break!

12.01.2022 recent training

12.01.2022 Here is an older video of Noguchi sensei from 10/7/05 Sensei shows great use of the hips in this henka. Beginners who are struggling with hip movement in their Taijutsu can learn alot from this. #ninpo #bujinkan #ninjutsu #ninja #koshi #training

12.01.2022 The martial arts should be shared, and to mentor and help students from all walks of life no matter what stage they are at in their journey is one of the most noble acts. Thank you Ian Sinclair

11.01.2022 Oguri sensei Some taijutsu of the highest possible standard and a fantastic lesson. Please feel free to share ... Thank you Sayaka and Don

09.01.2022 "you have to make yourself dissapear, dont be a target"! Classic Soke at the UK Taikai 2003 *some terrific insights by Soke, get yourself a copy of this from the distributors if you can"

08.01.2022 Fight like a ninja in Narita Airport. In November last year I was lucky enough to catch a stage combat show in Narita Airport terminal 2. The show is a choreograph fight between ninja and samurai, it is nice to see at the airport and makes waiting for your flight easier :)

07.01.2022 Last week I was invited to 35th annual asakusa demonstration of traditional japanese martial arts. I took 4 students with me to this fantastic event. Over 40 Koryu demonstrated including yabasume and kyudo outside. This is the embu of the Tenjin Shinyo-ryu founded in the 1830s and kept within the Iso family for 5 generations it is one of the main mother schools of Judo. Enjoy the embu.

07.01.2022 Soke was amazing as usual this week, the focus during this time was to put it bluntly using space, not using the hands and Mus Ken the sword without intenti...on. Soke made a point last night at the end of the class that anyone below 15th dan should focus on the fighting side and hard technique. I was used as an uke a lot this time and there was one particular demonstration shown where the feeling was strange in one instance soke came so far in and put his forearm into my guarding forearm, due to my momentum he repelled back but it caused to also follow him unintentionally where he then moved out of the way and used my own force to find the empty space and put me to the ground. Effectively I met kukan and lost my balance. There was no power used at all and it felt like me as the uke was one with him. Soke then said be like a magnet but it felt like a magnet meeting another magnet (where both are about to push each other apart). In Eskrima there is a principle/technique which we call suyop which roughly means magnet but this is where you bring the uke into you, getting him to stick to you therefore putting him in a prone position allowing you to continue to attack him safely. This was not like that at all but like two magnets meeting together and using the others force to do your bidding and survive. Good training to all Regards *apologies for the quality of the image it was taken on my phone from the cameramans laptop credit to Rob Baard for the image.

04.01.2022 Basic Pangamut: lastnight at the end of class showed a few students some Eskrima. This is moving slower and half injured.

01.01.2022 Soke giving some valuable advice, very relavant today as it was more than 27years ago. *Video is from 1993 Sydney taikai. If you like it please purchase this from the distributor.

01.01.2022 The recent Taree seminar, a good day of trianing.

01.01.2022 For those of you who like and revere the Tengu, here is a old japanese classic animation from the late 20s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoeZdwWkrjY Although the story doesnt have any descriptions on the youtube page it is a popular fable in Japan called "Kobutori Jsan" () or plump old man. A kind old man gets caught out in the forest and while spending a night there sees tengu (in some stories oni) dancing, he cant help himself but dance and impresses the teng...u who as a reward remove the lump on his cheek. He returns back to his village where another old man (a mean one in many stories) finds out about this an sets off to meet the tengu. He does but doesnt show the same respect and is a horrible dancer, as punishment the tengu give him the lump on the other side of his cheek. Enjoy.
