24.01.2022 Sensei Andrew getting a bit bored with this whole Rona thing. Nothing like a bit of Judo practice at home to liven things up a bit.

21.01.2022 Congratulations Cedric, Enzo and Ophelia on a successful grading tonight. Enjoy the school holidays and we will see the juniors back at judo when school goes back.
21.01.2022 More Judo practice at home while we keep fit and wait to get back to training with others. This the 2nd set of the Go-Kyo. Do all you orange belts remember these throws? Practice them on your Gi jacket at home.
20.01.2022 There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
19.01.2022 How quickly things can change in a couple of days!! Yesterday the Australian government introduced strict measures to try and slow the spread of COVID-19. JQ has followed with their policy cancelling all competitions and events including the State Championships, the Ohori Juniors competition, Dojo Dinosaurs training sessions and State training sessions for judoka wanting to compete at the Nationals. Health authorities are spreading the message of social isolation to prevent the medical facilities being overwhelmed by a spike in COVID-19 cases. Since judo is a close contact sport and in line with societal expectations, Bulimba Judo Club are cancelling all club training until further notice.
18.01.2022 There are 68 throws recognised by the Kodokan. Thats an extra 28 on top of the 40 that we learn in Kyu gradings. Here are 8 of them. Of course the leg grabs are not currently allowed in competition but that can change.

15.01.2022 Judo coaches - can you help me by placing these two links on your websites? Judo Throws This is an animated guide to all the judo throws in the Gokyo. 14.01.2022 As all good Judoka know, judo is about Maximum efficiency with minimum effort. This means - when your opponent pulls you, you push him. When your opponent pushes you, you pull him. This principle works really well when your opponent is a person, when your opponent is a grappling dummy - not so much. I am enjoying the challenge, all the same. Here are the blue belt throws.

13.01.2022 Judo Australia Recommends Modified Approach To Contact Based Judo Activities March 19, 2020 The Minister for Sport, Senator Richard Colbeck, has announced new c...ommunity sport guidelines to combat the spread of COVID-19. In the guidelines it acknowledges: contact sports have a greater risk of transmission than other sports, and as such, should be considered on a case-by-case basis. However, other mitigation strategies for match socialisation and contact must be employed to reduce the risk to players, visitors, and officials more broadly. These are challenging times in our complex Judo environment and we appreciate that there is not one consistent club structure across our grass roots community with many clubs operating a variety of services on a commercial basis and others operating in not for profit circumstances, which makes it difficult to apply a one size fits all approach to our community. At the core of our values we believe in always acting in the best interests of our participants, coaches and volunteers. Therefore we are doing all we can to keep our community safe and healthy during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Based on recent Government announcements regarding the need for self-distancing Judo Australia (JA), in consultation with the state and territory associations, recommends modification of all contact based judo activities. While acknowledging that JA is not the controlling body of training and activities undertaken by states, territories and clubs, we feel it is prudent in the current climate that we issue this advice in order to support our community to consider the impact and risk of ongoing training activities. Judo is a close physical contact sport creating a higher risk for participants of exposure to the virus. Our sport involves significant close contact for minutes at a time. Clubs and coaches should be looking at training structures and processes and how they can be modified, where possible. Ongoing fitness training that complies with the health warnings and leadership remains a viable option for clubs and athletes. We know that additional hygiene measures and communication about hygienic practices while attending judo activities is being undertaken by our clubs and coaches and we encourage you to continue practising safe and hygienic sessions which do not include contact or a breach of the social distancing protocols. JA and our state and territory associations will continue to monitor and reassess and provide guidance as matters change in the weeks and months ahead. Further details from the Australian Government announcement around the new community sport guidelines to combat the spread of COVID-19 can be hound here.

10.01.2022 Some wonderful sports photography
10.01.2022 Those Japanese names of throws are so hard to remember arent they? Well it becomes a lot easier if you know what all the words mean. Some are body parts: ashi-foot, koshi/goshi-hip, te-hand, sode-sleeve, obi-belt, kata/seoi-shoulder, mata-groin, tai-body. Others are a direction: de-forward, ura/ushiro-backwards, yoko-side, uchi-inner, soto-outer, tomoe-circular, guruma-wheel, sumi-corner, otoshi-drop. Then there are types of movement: gari-reap, harai-sweep, gake-hook, nage...-throw, tsuri-lifting, sasae-supporting, sukui-scooping, uki-floating, utsuri-transfer, tsurikomi-lift & pull, makikomi-wrapping. And some are just a description: okuri-assist, o-major, ko-minor, ippon-1 handed, morote-2 handed, gaeshi-counter, sukashi-slip, tani-valley, wakari-separation, waza-technique. But my all time favourite is tawara gaeshi which is bag of rice counter!! See more
10.01.2022 Andrew and Paul Howard visited Veteran Grappling on the Gold Coast today for the first contact grappling since COVID. It was so good to get back on the mat. I cant wait for Tuesday now, when we have our first session back.
08.01.2022 The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant effect on the delivery of Judo in Australia and our entire community. In response to these challenging times, JA ha...s developed a range of stimulus measures for our Member States and Individual Members to best support the community during this pandemic and as we start to emerge from the suspension of Judo activity nationally. See @judoaus for all community stimulus measures https://www.ausjudo.com.au//Judo-In-Australia-Community-St

08.01.2022 Hi Bulimba Judo Members, We are anticipating a return to judo on Tuesday 14 July (the first week of term 3) provided we are given the go-ahead by the QLD Government. It will be a little different with COVID19 measures in place. Please come dressed for judo so that change rooms are not required and if possible shower before and after training. The mats are disinfected before each training session and hand sanitiser is provided. The most important thing though is if you are feeling unwell STAY AT HOME. It has been a long time away from the sport we love and we are all really looking forward to getting back on the mat. I am really looking forward to welcoming everyone back in just over 2 weeks. Sensei Andrew
08.01.2022 Looking for a workout to do this evening? Try the A to Z workout and challenge your friends!!! #JudoAtHome #WorkoutWednesday
08.01.2022 Here are a few more of the extra throws. Some are very hard to demonstrate on a dummy, since they are counters, but use your imagination.
07.01.2022 Bulimba had a great day out at the Hills PCYC teams comp. The happy faces say it all. There was some beautiful judo on display, and I can’t wipe the proud smile off Sensei Laurie’s face. Well done team.
07.01.2022 Here is the last set of the Go-kyo which is the 40 throws you need to demonstrate for your brown belt. I hope everyone is keeping fit during this down time. There is online HIIT available everyday of the week. Charisma is doing a 30 minute session at 6pm every Mon, Wed and Fri, and I am taking a 60 minute session every Tue and Thu at 7pm. Let me know if you want to join in.
06.01.2022 Heres a little video to help you remember your hold downs. Did you remember the names?
05.01.2022 Judo practice in isolation, just get a willing partner. Very creative.
05.01.2022 2020 South Queensland Regional Championship Sunday 23rd August, at Lang Park PCYC Judo QLD is launching a new event management platform and this Event is now live at https://smoothcomp.com/en/event/3959 ... #judo #judoqld #qldjudoka #smoothcomp #langpark #pcyc Athletes will need to create a Smoothcomp profile prior to registration and Club managers will need to create a Smoothcomp profile and then create an academy profile. https://smoothcomp.com Please feel free to email [email protected] if theres any issues A couple of hints for Club Officials: When you create the academy it will automatically make you a manager. Dont change that! If you dont have at least one manager then no one can make changes. Once you have additional managers then you can change your status to Coach or athlete. I would also recommend leaving the approval request off so that athletes can automatically join the academy. You can always change their status later if someone joins the wrong club. Once you become familiar with the platform you can make changes as you like. Looking forward to an awesome event
03.01.2022 To all Queensland competitive Judoka, after a meeting of the Judo Qld Board on the 4th of August, and after extensive consultations with Clubs, and national St...ake holders, to reduce health risks including virus transmissions the following Qld events have been cancelled for 2020. 02.01.2022 Dear Bulimba Judo Club Members, The Queensland Government has approved Stage 3 COVID19 restrictions from 3 July. This means that we can now resume contact judo training with a few differences from what we are used to. The Seniors will start on Tuesday 7 July and the Juniors one week later on Tuesday 14 July. We have submitted our COVID SAFE plan with JQ in accordance with Government regulations and we are required to follow it. We still have some basic rules to follow to mini...mise the chance of spreading the COVID19 virus. If you feel unwell or are waiting for a COVID test result stay at home. This includes fever, cough, sneezing, shortness of breath or just feeling fatigued. The toilets and change rooms are cleaned by the BJSC (Bulimba Junior Sports Club) and should only be used when absolutely necessary. Please come to training (and leave) wearing your Gi pants to avoid using the change rooms. There is now a one-way entry and exit route to the door. Please follow the arrows. We will take the temperature of everyone on arrival. If you have a temperature of greater than 38 degrees, you will not be able to enter the dojo. Please maintain social distancing while waiting your turn to enter. There will be hand sanitiser provided at the entrance and everyone is to use it on entry and exit. Please try to limit the number of spectators in the hall and those not doing judo must comply with social distancing rules (1.5m from others). We are required to keep electronic and paper records of attendance (including spectators). To allow us to do this we ask everyone to download the Team App to their phone, join Bulimba Judo Club and then join the Players and Officials group. We also strongly encourage you to download the Government COVIDSafe app and have it active. All judoka are encouraged to shower before and after training if possible. The liberal use of soap will neutralise the virus. Social distancing is still important. You must maintain social distancing while not actively engaged in judo. If someone is contagious, this will limit the spread of the virus. This also means limiting any social interaction before and after training and return to cars separately. If you have a positive COVID19 test, you must notify the club on 0402 356 426 or [email protected]. This may require anyone who has had contact going into quarantine for 14 days. We have all missed doing Judo and are really pleased to be returning to training. Bulimba Judo Club Committee See more

01.01.2022 This is quite long but is a really good demonstration of the Gokyo and extra throws as well as holds, strangles and arm locks. Well worth a look when doing grading training.
