25.01.2022 A big congratulations to Amy Eggleton on passing her driving test this morning at Tumbarumba Services Centre. Well done and thanks for working with me to get this outcome.

24.01.2022 Hi Everyone, this is a video for learners and supervisors with tips about driving in adverse weather conditions. The weather was miserable, close to snowing, cold and additional hazards relating to a bushfire affected area and the things that driving in the country present. I have done a commentary during the drive to highlight some of the points that I am trying to make. It is ten minutes in duration, so I hope it is not too long. I would appreciate any feedback and suggestions for other videos

19.01.2022 The school holidays are coming to an end, but there is one last hurrah. The Australian Day long weekend! This is a great opportunity for learner drivers to gain valuable experience in complex traffic, as outlined in Learning goal 10 in the Learner driver log book. This is best undertaken in medium to high traffic areas, like Wagga Wagga or Albury, where numerous traffic variables are available for the learner driver to be exposed to. Driving around Tumba and Tumut is great f...or the learner driver to gain general experience and confidence, but exposure to complex traffic is essential for the learner to develop into a safe and well rounded driver. As a supervising driver to a learner it is important to prepare yourself for the lesson too. Taking a learner for a simple drive is not going to achieve the best outcomes for you or the learner. For example, what is the experience level of the learner you are supervising? Have you identified the skills the learner needs to develop? Where are you undertaking this drive and is it appropriate for the outcomes you want to achieve? Read the learner driver log book for the relevant learning goal you are hoping to achieve. It provides information to assist the supervising driver. An additional helpful resource for a supervising driver is available in the 'road users handbook' and the 'Guide to the driving test', which can be downloaded from the RMS website. If you have a questions about your learner driver, please feel free to ring me on 0476110965 or email me at [email protected] I am very happy to provide any assistance I can. So, to conclude, today's tip for the supervising driver (particularly parents); try to always remain calm with your learner. Being frustrated or impatient with the learner only makes them nervous and loose confidence. When your learner is nervous or lacking confidence they will make mistakes. If they are not getting it, leave it and move onto something else. When your learner gets it right or drives well, tell them and give frequent positive feedback. Happy Australia Day and enjoy the long weekend.

18.01.2022 Every hard working Driving Instructor needs a break! See you when we get back (January 8th, 2020)

18.01.2022 A big congratulations to Ebony Shore obtaining her provisional drivers licence at Tumut this morning. Thanks Ebony for choosing Bulletproof Driver Training

17.01.2022 I have been a bit remiss with my lack of posting recently as things have been rather hectic in the world of driver training. So, firstly I would like to give my gratitudes to all the Rotarians and Learner drivers who participated in Tumbarumba Rotary Club Learner Driver Log Book Run on Sunday 7th April, 2019. It was a great day for it and from my perspective well worthwhile doing. I hope the ten learner drivers who participated got positive outcomes. Special shout out to Jodie Fisher who helped out with the BBQ cooking. Thanks to Julie Giddings for letting us use her work vehicle when we came up short with cars and for cooking!

16.01.2022 Happy New Year to everyone. The following video captures an incident that happened to me on the way home from Eden on the Elliott Way on a fine and warm Thursday afternoon. The video I have posted highlights how quickly drivers can be confronted with situations that could potentially be harmful. For those of us, who frequently travel the Elliott Way, I am sure you have been confronted with vehicles on the incorrect side of the road, either through excessive speed, inattenti...veness or fatigue. For those parents with learner drivers a quick review of their log books will highlight the learning goals for scanning, complex traffic and low risk driving. The learning goals of low risk driving are particularly relevant, being speed management, road positioning, decision making and responding to the hazards. In this video you can see the warning sign that puts drivers on alert of the very hazard ahead of them. A four wheel drive travelling towards me is towing a caravan and before responding to my presence, it is positioned in the centre of the road, occupying some of my traffic lane. I have already anticipated a hazard and moved to the left of my traffic lane. As the hazard appears I reduced speed and moved as far left as I could. The driver of the approaching vehicle moves back to the correct side of the road, but forgets to take into account that his caravan is wider than his vehicle and is still tracking on the path he was on (rear of the caravan tracking onto the incorrect side of the road). The point of the video is to reinforce the need for drivers to continually maintain low risk driving and scanning for hazards. This is particularly important for adults supervising learner drivers to instil low risk driving, hazard awareness and scanning. See more

16.01.2022 I am sure this image brings back some unsettling memories to any adult who has supervised a learner driver, particularly when the learner driver is your child. On the other side of the coin I am sure we can all remember being a learner driver and the stress you felt when your supervisor was anxious. Learning to drive a motor vehicle is a demanding and intensive process. So, as the supervisor of a learner driver, what can you do to ensure this is not the experience for you a...nd your learner? Firstly, be organised, make sure the vehicle you are using for the lesson is roadworthy, fuelled and safe. Secondly, planning, Iook at the learner driver log book and pick one or more lesson goals that your learner needs development on. Choose locations that are suitable for the lesson plan. For example, parking and reversing a quiet carpark, like sports ground or golf club (when not being used) is a perfect stress free environment to practice these skills. Thirdly, know the learning style that your learner uses, this will make it easier to get your message across. The last and perhaps most important things are to remain calm, give positive and appropriate feedback to your learner and don't stress the little things. If your learner is not getting that reverse parallel park right don't keep at it, it will only cause conflict and frustration for you and your learner. Move on to something your learner can do well, so you can change to a positive aspect. These are some of the techniques I use as a driving instructor to ensure that my learners have a positive and rewarding experience on their journeys to becoming safe and low risk drivers. If you have any questions about supervising your learner driver please post them to this page and I will provide what feedback I can.

15.01.2022 A Big thanks to the Tumbarumba Rotary Club for their support and promotion of Bulletproof Driver Training and to those Rotarians who have volunteered to assist with the Rotary Safe Driver Program. The program is currently being developed and will be launched in late January/early February, 2019. Please pass the word around to all the Learner Drivers and parents of learner drivers, who may be interested in participating. All learner drivers that have already undertaken driving lessons with me will be invited to participate in the program. My contact details are listed on this page.

15.01.2022 Another donation made to bushfire victims! Thank you Courtney Jones! During January and February, all driving lessons are conditionally free, as longer as the learner makes a donation of their discretion to bushfire victims. So, please book your driving lesson to get the donations flowing.

14.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Sienna Jeffress on a first time pass on her driving test this morning. Thanks Sienna for choosing Bulletproof Driver Training.

13.01.2022 WHAT CAN I DO? Driving around NZ has been an amazing experience and the scenery is spectacular, but the reality of going home to Australia, I will still be a spectator. I will be away from Tumbarumba, just like many other community members because of the devastating fires, unable to contribute. Although I have expressed my sincerest gratitudes in persHATonal posts and messages to the firies, emergency service workers, volunteers, Forestry, NPWS and ancilliary supporters who s...tayed behind to fight the fires, I could not do anything materially to help. So, I was racking my brain thinking what a driving instructor could do. This is what I came up with; conditionally FREE driving lessons for January and February, 2020. The condition is the learner make a donation to either to RFS or Fire Appeal prior to getting your lesson. I don't care how much you donate as times are tough on the Tumba refugees. It is likely I will be in Wagga for awhile, so if you are nearby and need or know a learner who needs driving lessons, let me know. I have my driver training vehicle in Wagga. I'm happy to travel reasonable distances to do lessons. This offer is not limited to Tumba people, the more lesson I can do the more money can be donated. Please spread the word. Thanks. 12.01.2022 Great job Jack Goldspink on getting your Red P's, you did so well. I enjoyed our drive this morning before your test.

11.01.2022 Hello everyone. I have been slack with posts over the last month, with other commitments. Now, while I have a little bit of down time, I thought I would do a series of quick posts with simple hints that might help learners improve their safety while operating a vehicle. So, for the first tip. For a learner operating either a manual or auto, it is important, before commencing to drive you should always look at the gear selector and confirm that you are in the correct gear. ... I can't tell you the number of times I have observed drivers, both learners and licensed drivers go to move off in the wrong gear. The result of being in the wrong gear can be very serious. You regularly see news clips of a car launching forward off a multi storey car park or reversing through shop fronts. A simple habit to develop, but could save a tragedy or a least a damaged car. I hope this tip helps. Cheers See more

11.01.2022 With the easing of some COVID -19 restrictions, it is time to get back into Driver Training. I am resuming training on the 1st June. Let's get things moving again!

10.01.2022 In conjunction with the Rotary Club of Tumbarumba, I am pleased to announce a free Learner Driver Log Book run to be held at 10am on Sunday, 7th April, 2019. The event will afford Learner Drivers from the Tumbarumba area the opportunity to gain invaluable driving experience with a Licensed Driver Instructor and Rotarians. The attached flyer has the event and contact details for interested Learner Drivers. I look forward to engaging with Learner Driver's and interested parents. RSVP Sunday, 31st March, 2019.

09.01.2022 With the announcement by Services NSW that driver licence testing has been suspended and the need to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, Bulletproof driver training will be temporarily suspending all driver training. Although, the conducting of driver training has not yet been restricted, I believe the need to isolate and reduce risk of transmission is far more important at this stage. I will put up relevant driver training posts over the next few weeks to keep eng...aged. As soon as SNSW resumes driver testing I will start doing driver training again. Thank you for your understanding. Could all supervising drivers who are isolating with their learners please take the time to take them out for driving lessons to keep there skills and experience up, where practicable. I am more than happy to take any calls for advice about structuring your drives and methods of teaching. My mobile is 0437978326. If you would like any questions answered about driver training, email, post or if need zoom meetings are good. Just let me know. See more

08.01.2022 Spring has sprung and the driver trainer is back in full swing! Time to get those wheels turning, driving skills up and log book hours ticking over. So, to help the learners struggling with their log book hours, Bulletproof Driver Training and Tumbarumba Rotary Club will be running the second Rotary Log Book Run in the near future. A date will be announced shortly, but don't miss out, register yours or your learner's interest in this event. Places will be limited.

08.01.2022 A huge thanks to Courtney Jones for being the first learner driver to a have conditionally free driving lesson with Bulletproof Driver Training and making her donation to help bushfire victims. Remember this offer is available for January and February, 2020, where all booked driving lessons are free, provided the Learner makes a donation of their choice to help bushfire victims. However much you wish (or can afford) to donate is fine with me.

07.01.2022 Okay Learners, let's get booking your lessons in January and February while the lessons are conditionally free after you make a donation to the RFS or fire victims' fund. Donate what you can.

06.01.2022 Good morning. Time for our third tip, which again follows on from securely parking your vehicle. Today's tip is checking that your handbrake is working effective or in driving instructor terms, a handbrake function test. A large part of learning to drive is practice and patient corrective training by your supervising driver or instructor. Teaching learners good, safe habits, which become etched into their driving is the key to them becoming safe, low risk drivers. So, the ti...p, which should be a habit that is done everytime before moving off in a vehicle; Start vehicle with handbrake applied. After all checks have been done select the gear to move off in. Transition from footbrake to accelerator, this transition will check that the handbrake is holding your car stationary and therefore in working order. Remember to signal and do appropriate head checks prior to moving out into the traffic. Cheers See more

06.01.2022 Good morning. Today's tip for learner drivers follows up on checking you are in the correct gear before driving. This tip relates to parking your vehicle safely. The hint is more applicable to manual vehicles, but it also important for auto transmissions, as well. If you park on a hill with a slope up hill in a manual, you should ensure that you leave the vehicle parked in first gear and the hand brake fully applied. This secures your vehicle by two means, transmission and ...handbrake. Handbrakes over time can become worn and lead to failure. A parked vehicle with a defective handbrake, secured by this means only could become an uncontrolled missile with horrendous results. Conversely, parking downhill you should leave your vehicle parked in reverse and the handbrake fully applied. When parking auto transmission vehicles always select P for Park and fully apply the handbrake. I hope this tip helps. See more

05.01.2022 The summer school holidays are done and dusted! The start of the school year for learner drivers heralds a hectic time as you embark on Years 11 and 12. So, to all the Tumba High learner drivers trying to fit in lessons, anything that can make your life easier is a good thing. Since August, 2018 the Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) have authorised the use of three apps that are digital learner driver log books on mobile devices. The three apps that are authorised for thi...s use are: L2P, Roundtrip and my personal favourite, Licence Ready. I am personally using Licence Ready. This app allows the capture of driving lessons by GPS (verified accuracy of drive and easy reference), time, vehicle and odometer recording. The licence ready app (as are the other two apps) are available on IOS and Android platforms. The learner driver, supervisor and Driving Instructor can share information and recording of the learner's driving lessons and experience. From my perspective as a Driving Instructor it allows access to instructional videos to assist in learning outcomes, scheduling of lessons and timely communication between student and instructors. For those learner drivers, that have not clocked up many hours yet and if it is convenient to do so, you can manually add all of your lessons to the digital app. For those learners who are close to achieving your required 120 hours continue using your paper log books as it would be impractical to back capture. In saying this the app can still be useful for the Supervising Driver and Driving Instructors. In closing consider using one of the apps listed, but hopefully you will choose Licence Ready. Good luck in your studies and endeavours. See more

04.01.2022 Thank you to all of the Learner drivers and Rotarians who participated in the Learner Driver Log Book Run held on the 10 November, 2019. Unfortunately, due to a shortage of Rotarians three learner drivers, Emma Hubbard, Kimberley Staib and Braydon Wooden missed out on their free lesson. Emma, Kimberley and Braydon, could you please use the 'Create Appointment' tool on the Bulletproof driver face book page to book your preferred time and date of your lesson.

03.01.2022 Congratulations to Alex Crane on a first time driving test pass today. Thanks Alex for using Bulletproof Driver Training. Happy and safe solo motoring.

02.01.2022 Congratulations to Holly Giddings for a first time pass on her driving test this afternoon. I'm very glad she passed as it would have been embarrassing for the grand daughter to fail being taught by a driving instructor.

02.01.2022 Merry Christmas to everyone and best wishes for a happy New Year. This holiday period is an important opportunity for learner drivers to gain the experience and log book hours they need. So, supervising drivers please remember to be patient with your learner. Allow more time for your travels and be focused on teaching, not lecturing. The experience for you and your learner should be positive. Safe and low risk driving behaviour is the desired outcome For the well being of all road users. This year has been a great personal experience meeting and spending time with all the learner drivers who have chosen to learn with Bulletproof Driver Training. A big thank you all.

02.01.2022 Positions for the Rotary Club of Tumbarumba learner driver log book run to be held on Sunday, 7th April, 2019 are filling up fast.
