25.01.2022 We were unable to gain access to our clinic this morning. We apologise for any inconvenience. We have had no power at home since Sunday night. As a result, we are struggling to keep the clinic mobile charged. We will be back on board as soon as Bullsbrook town opens again. Stay safe everyone.
23.01.2022 Are your contact details up to date on the microchip registry for your pet? Microchipping is only as good as the details owners have provided. If your pet is still registered under the breeder's name it could be embarrassing if the pet is found, scanned and then the breeder is contacted. All microchips need to be registered, please check if this has been done. At Bullsbrook Veterinary Centre we can scan your pet and check if the contact details are correct. Please phone us on 95711228 for the best time to come in.

16.01.2022 Allergic Dermatitis Allergic dermatitis can present as a number of different signs, including excessive scratching, chewing or redness of the skin, hair loss or ear infections. This can be seasonal or all year round and can be caused by many factors including fleas, pollens, grasses or food. Regardless of the cause of the allergy, the signs are often similar. Itchiness can result in severe self-mutilation of the skin which can then become infected. This can lead to sleeples...s nights and frayed tempers. Allergic skin disease is one of the most frustrating conditions to diagnose and treat successfully. It is important for the vet and the owner to work together in order to find the possible cause and then to devise the initial treatment plan. The response to the treatment then needs to be assessed to determine suitability and outcome. If an infection has set in, the treatment may require the use of antibiotics or anti-fungal washes and the vet may also prescribe topical creams and specific shampoos for the pet. In addition, effective flea control is essential. It may be necessary to feed a prescription diet designed specifically for sensitive skin. Things that the owner can do to improve the allergic pet’s health Wash the pet’s bedding once weekly. Replace old beds. Keep the pet inside on high pollen count days. Bath weekly to remove allergens from the fur. Provide ongoing effective flea control. Get regular check-ups so that your vet can monitor progress and make adjustments to long term treatment. Treat flare-ups quickly before secondary infections have a chance to take hold. Communication with your vet at Bullsbrook Veterinary Centre is essential to gain a successful outcome. Most cases require some form of prescription medical treatment in order to achieve long term control. Please phone 95711228 for an appointment. See more

06.01.2022 Dogs and cats become stressed in many situations including when their owners are stressed in lock-down. Dog and cat pheromones can really help in these situations. At Bullsbrook Veterinary Centre we have Adaptil and Feliway diffusers and refills on special, while stocks last. Please phone us on 95711228 to have one put aside. Our vets can also assess your pet in case they need medication to improve their quality of life.
06.01.2022 If you are wondering about the comparative risks of vaccinating or not, please read this infographic about parvo. The only proviso is that young puppies should be socialised before they are 12 weeks old, before they finish their puppy vaccinations. This should be done in a clean controlled environment such as a puppy preschool. They should not go to public parks or the beach until at least 10 days after their 16 week vaccination. And yes all dogs should be vaccinated every year but C5 every 3 years and only canine cough is needed in the years between each C5.

02.01.2022 Snakes Alive! It’s that time of year again. Reptiles, including snakes, are waking up from those drowsy winter days and coming out to explore and look for their first meal for probably 5 months. We really don’t want your precious pets to be out there pursuing these precious wild animals. Dogs and cats don’t understand the rules with snakes:... If you leave the snake alone, the snake will leave you alone. Snakes definitely don’t want to waste their venom on an animal that they could never hope to eat. Unfortunately pets just don’t get it. The snake will hiss, it will rear up, it will mock strike. But if the pet continues to poke and prod the snake will bite. What choice does the snake have? If you think your pet has had an interaction with a snake, please phone Bullsbrook Veterinary Centre on 95711228 and bring them straight in to the clinic without delay. Most importantly, stay safe and do not kill the snake. See more
