22.01.2022 Today we carried out our pre-season refresher training with help from Swan Communications Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade. We split the members into groups of 5 and rotated each group between the different appliances and carried out training on each appliance. All our members have to do this annually prior to the upcoming bushfire season! We also had a surprise visit from Fran Logan MLA! Thank you for coming to see us . A big thanks to the crew from Swan comms for giving up your morning.

21.01.2022 From all of us at Bullsbrook VFES have safe and happy Easter

21.01.2022 Last night the brigade held its AGM. We would like to thank the outgoing officers for your efforts over the last few years. We welcome our new and existing officers into the following positions.. Captain - Chris Unstead Lieutenants - Brian Davis, Garth West, Sam Unstead, Neil Casserly... Secretary - Sam Unstead Treasurer - Geoff Liddle Training Officer - Jason Black Equipment Officer - Rob McVicar

20.01.2022 Training today we headed up into hills to give our newer members some experience of off-road driving under the guidance of our more experienced members. This was great prep for the upcoming fire season and also helped them to understand some of the dense bush we have in our area. Great Job to all those that had a go on the more challenging tracks.

20.01.2022 ***RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD*** The Restricted Burning Period in City of Swan commences Thursday 1st October 2020, and runs until 30th November 2020 during this time most forms of burning require a permit. Refer to https://www.swan.wa.gov.au//Download-Your-202021-Fire-Seas for more details. From 1st October 2020, you will be able to apply for a permit online by accessing https://www.swan.wa.gov.au//E/Fire/Burn-Permit-Information - note the online option will NOT be avai...lable before 1st October. This will allow rapid approval for burning heaps up to five square meters as long as appropriate other criteria are met. For larger heaps or running fire you will also be able to apply on line, but this will be referred to the appropriate Bush Fire Officer for assessment and approval which may take several days. You can as an alternative still apply face to face at your local brigade station only during the times listed, refer to the links above. Note that Rapid Approval does not mean you can start burning straight away, unless you have already given the required notifications to all adjoining landholders (usually four days), but nothing wrong with giving advance notice ahead of obtaining the permit.

17.01.2022 Bullsbrook VFES response to Convid-19 Coronavirus. Due to the Coronavirus situation the following changes will be taking place to our operating procedures. All training has been cancelled until further notice.... No public access to the station. No public engagement activities. These measures are to protect our firefighters and the community so we can still respond and provide the same level of emergency response that we always have. Please stay safe and look after each other. Regards Bullsbrook VFES Captain Garth West

16.01.2022 To our Bullsbrook residents. The brigade is conducting a burn on Quinn rd this evening. This will be our last hazard reduction burn this year.

16.01.2022 Its that time year again to check your smoke Alarm. What prefect distraction for anyone working from home. Also a good opportunity to teach all those kids that are stuck at home fire safety.

16.01.2022 To our Bullsbrook residents. We are looking for an abandoned or house or shed to use on a training exercise towards the end of August. We won’t be burning it down . Thanks everyone.

15.01.2022 Yesterday morning crews attended a tree fire caused by lightning. Property owner was straight onto the initial ignition after the storm passed. Its a good reminder to all property owners to go around their properties after storms have passed and check for any possible lightning strikes.

15.01.2022 Here is something to brighten your Facebook feed.

14.01.2022 The brigade will be doing a hazard reduction burn on the Jess road reserve starting at 17:00 this evening. This will go into the evening. Thanks

Please invite everyone and any new potential members for our Bushfire Ready Groups. We will cover off the pre-season briefing and all of the general bushfire ready actions we should be taking before the season starts. Chris, our Captain will address everyone and we can answer any questions you may have re permits. (New online permit system will be explained and demonstrated)

14.01.2022 There will be no more permits issued by the brigade this season. You can still get an online permit with restricted burning conditions on the city of Swan website. This is due to the drying conditions and high temperatures. All fires must be extinguished by midnight now and no lighting up before 6pm. Thank you

13.01.2022 Due to the incoming weather conditions, DFES have imposed a total fire ban as of midnight tonight until Monday. All permit burns must be totally extinguished by midnight tonight. No permits have been issued today and none will be issued until Monday. No burning allowed at all. PLEASE DO NOT BURN 1MX1M after 6pm either.

13.01.2022 It’s that time of year again and as of midnight on Monday the 30th, there is no burning allowed as we are into prohibited burning season. City of Swan has additional burning restrictions over-riding the exemptions in the Bush Fires Act for cooking, camping and garden refuse fires. During the Prohibited Burning Period 1st Dec to 31st March... Solid fuel fires in the open air are only allowed for COOKING purposes open air includes an open verandah, patio etc Only if fire danger rating is not Very High or above, or if there is no Total Fire Ban or Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban in force at the time Only at a person’s home, or in an area set aside for that purpose by State or Local Govt (almost none in Swan) Must be in a dedicated appliance eg stove, pizza oven, BBQ, etc Must have minimum 5 metres clear of flammable material in all directions and have an effective means of extinguishment eg hose with running water or fire unit Attended at all times until fully extinguished, and only lit for the times reasonably required for cooking NOT Allowed Garden refuse fires anywhere/anytime Solid fuel cooking/camping fires away from a person’s home, and/or away from an area set aside for that purpose by State or Local government.

12.01.2022 Due to the current dryness and weather conditions, there is no running fire allowed under permit conditions as of midnight tonight until Monday morning. Thanks for your understanding.

11.01.2022 Please read this update. No matter what, we will continue to be here for the community.

11.01.2022 Unrestricted Burning period Please still call DFES on 9395 9209 to register your burn. The City of Swan is now in the unrestricted burning period which means that you can burn without a permit. The unrestricted period runs from June 1 until 30 September. These dates may be amended due to seasonal conditions.... Note: due to the impact of smoke, burning is still prohibited on land under 2000 m2. Winter is an ideal time to start preparing your property for the upcoming fire season. Particularly if you choose to use fire to reduce the fuel load on your property. The City encourages property owners to take advantage of this safer period to conduct their fire hazard reduction burning. When conducting a burn please note that care must be exercised: The burn must be conducted in an area that is surrounded by fire breaks; Rake around dead trees to minimise the risk of them catching alight; Notify your neighbours prior to lighting up; Be in attendance and control of the burn at all times (preferable a minimum of two adult able-bodied persons should be present for duration of the burn); Have the ability to extinguish the fire if the conditions change (water or manual methods); Do not burn damp, wet or green material as this will cause excessive smoke; Fires are to be immediately extinguished should smoke blow across public roads causing visibility to be reduced. Further advice on winter burning can be found at https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au//DFES-Bushfire-Winter_Burning.p

10.01.2022 Prohibited Burning Period Extension Due to a number of contributing factors including the issues surrounding COVID-19, minimal rainfall and the current soil dryness, City of Swan has extended the Prohibited burning period until the 14th of April 2020. 08.01.2022 Are you planning on burning this weekend? Then see this important message from City of Swan: Gusty northerly winds are expected during Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May ahead of a significant trough and cold front. These winds will bring relatively warm, dry and gusty conditions to the majority of the South West Land Division that are unseasonable for this time of year. As such, community members should consider delaying their burn where possible and ensure current burns are fully extinguished on completion. We also remind permit holders to check the conditions of their permit, especially the specified maximum wind speed, prior to lighting up to ensure compliance.
