23.01.2022 Meet the Bumbira team Name, Mob, Job Position? Yaama! Gayrr Ngay Kaliela Thornton, I am a Project Officer with the Bumbira Art & Culture Program, my mob are the Gamilaroi, Yuwaalaroi & Manandanji people. I am very proud of my culture and heritage.... What do you specialise in through Bumbira and what do you love most about your role? What I love the most is witnessing the positive changes in peoples lives when you connect them with a creative and cultural outlet. Connection to culture brings meaning and empowerment to identity and great big smiles! Within the Bumbira program, I have had the pleasure of working with Elders, mums & students, we have shared in weaving, art, language & cultural connection. I am looking forward to working with people who have a need for social emotional and wellbeing, and cultural connections. I specialise in art, bush foods and traditional uses, basic language, dance, mentoring and cultural connection. I believe my background and life experience is an important part of the Bumbira team and to the community. What is your favourite thing to do outside of work? You can find me chilling at home. I love TV Series that are sci-fi, horror or fantasy themed. I love to garden. Sometimes I dabble in my art, or I play my Playstation and hang out with my online friends. What is your favourite music/song/ artist? I love to listen to many genres of music from classical, hip-hop to heavy, so my playlist you would find artists like Creedence, Dwight Yoakam, Ozzy Osbourne, Queen, Rammstein, Grimes, Aurora, Crowded House, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Fu-schnickens, Smetna, LeCrae and 2Pac. But my favourite song to rock out to in the car is I was made for loving you Kiss
