24.01.2022 WALK/CYCLE/GET SOME EXERCISE , Going for walks is still allowed, so head out with your kids to get some fresh air and sunshine! Today we went for a walk to our local duck pond and fed the ducks some peas (yes, peas! A lot of people don't know this but bread is toxic to ducks. Google some ideas of what to feed ducks if you're interested ). There's something about nature that does wonders for calling kids' sensory systems. Exercise is also linked to better concentr...ation and attention, so this would be a lovely way to begin the morning before starting the homeschooling . . . #bumblebuddies #selfisolatingwithkids #occupationaltherapist #OTmum #natureplay #activitieswithkids #learnthroughplay See more

17.01.2022 SPRAY BOTTLE GARDENING Give your little ones a spray bottle filled with water and ask them to help you spray the plants outside. Using a spray bottle is a great activity for strengthening the muscles in the hands and fingers (fine motor strengthening) and helping kids learn to maintain their grasp- both of which are very important for handwriting and using scissors when they are a little bit older.... Try this at home with your little ones (and older ones!) and tag us @bumblebuddies. We love seeing you get involved and watching your kids #learnthroughplay #bumblebuddies #laythefoundation #stayathomeactivities #learningthroughplay #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapyathome #OTmum #sensoryplayideas #childdevelopment #finemotorskills #finemotorstrengthening #brisbanemums #melbournemums #sydneymums #perthmums #playtolearn #boredtoddler #toddlerideas #spraybottle

16.01.2022 COOKING , Peel, cut, chop... Get the kids to join in! This really is a great whole-family activity and kids of all ages can participate. Whether it's peeling potatoes for dinner tonight or pouring flour into bowl when making pancakes, there are so many life skills that children can gain. It's never too early to start! . For younger ones (~1-3 years) concentrate on sensory play by providing them different textures, temperatures and materials to play with whilst c...ooking, and also focus on simple single-step tasks such a mixing and pouring. For older ones (4 and up) you can start introducing them to more complex tasks like measuring, using utensils like a potato peeler and transferring independently. It's also a great opportunity to talk about food and healthy eating, and getting your kids involved in meal prep can make fussy eaters more open to trying new foods! . Safety top tip: using a fork to pierce vegetables whilst kids are learning how to peel veges helps keep their helper hand fingers away from the peeler. . Take some pics of your budding chefs and don't forget to tag us! . . . #bumblebuddies #learnthroughplay #learningthroughplay #selfisolatingwithkids #sensoryplayideas #cookingwithkids #familytime #occupationaltherapy #OTmum #brisbanekids #brisbanemums #brisbanemumsgroup #brisbanekidsofficial See more

13.01.2022 SIDEWALK CHALK DRAWINGS Chalk drawings are just the best form of entertainment, and they provide our kids with opportunities to learn SO many skills. Today's at-home activity for you to try is making some roadside art. This activity is great for engaging the core muscles, weight bearing through the arms, receiving proprioceptive feedback, developing language related to colours and shapes, and developing fine motor skills. Top tip: combine yesterday's activity (spray... bottle) with today's activity- get your kids to wash their drawings with the spray bottle after they are done! Remember: whilst there definitely is a time and a place for it, learning doesn't HAVE to be structured all of the time. Sometimes the best learning opportunities come about through play #learnthroughplay . . . #bumblebuddies #stayathomeactivities #selfisolatingwithkids #occupationaltherapy #OTmum #childdevelopment #finemotorskills #sidewalkchalk #toddleractivities See more

07.01.2022 NATURE PLAY Nature play provides kids with a whole-body sensory experience. Hearing the birds and the sounds outside; smelling the fresh grass; touching all the different textured natural materials like sticks, twigs, pinecones, grass etc; and absorbing what Mother Nature has to offer with the sense of sight . Activity idea: create a list of things to find and go on a scavenger hunt! Our list today included a butterfly, a bird, an orange leaf, a purple flower, a mulberry and... a beehive. The kids were so excited when they found something on their list . Top tip: lifting a large pile of sticks to build a campfire or carrying varying sized rocks to make a volcano are great activities for allowing kids to fine-tune their body awareness (proprioception) whilst engaging in pretend play. Side note: the kids were so calm after we back indoors . . . #bumblebuddies #learnthroughplay #sensoryplayideas #outdoorplay #OTmum #selfisolation #selfisolatingwithkids #brisbanemums #brisbanekids #brisbanemumsgroup #natureplay #scavengerhunt #occupationaltherapy See more
