25.01.2022 World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 August all over the globe to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the w...orld. "Empower Parents. Enable Breastfeeding." The theme for 2019 World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) has been announced - Empower Parents. Enable Breastfeeding. ILCA is partnering with organizations around the globe - including United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organization (WHO), International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN), La Leche League International (LLLI), The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM), Wellstart International, the Global Goals, and the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) - to promote the role that breastfeeding plays in valuing our wellbeing. Breastfeeding is a universal solution that levels the playing field, giving everyone a fair start in life. It improves the health, wellbeing and survival of women and children around the world.

23.01.2022 Does anyone else get emotional when they see breastfeeding on TV? I absolutely love Ronald McDonald House Charities Australias new advertising campaign about "...Everyday Moments". One of the TV ads shares some everyday moments from the Hare family. At the very end, as the mother is watching her older children play together, she lifts her shirt in preparation for a breastfeed. Breastfeeding is not the primary message, and truth be told, Im not even sure the makers realised how including it would make their message even more profound. There is a strong relationship between breastfeeding and health, but its more than that. Breastfeeding is something that can simultaneously be very special AND "everyday". I think fits in beautifully with the overall message from RMHC, which I believe is that everyday moments are treasured more when your family is facing special and difficult circumstances, and should never be taken for granted. I applied for a job with RMHC when I was 6 months pregnant with my second baby. It was probably a blessing that I didnt get the job, because I have truly valued being home with my kids so much more than I ever would have appreciated the money I could have earned. But getting the interview provided me with an opportunity to learn about exactly what they do there, and see their facilities at John Hunter Hospital. Now I have a very soft spot for their charity work, because the work they do is so important. Thank you to RHMC and to the Hare family for showcasing such a special moment.

22.01.2022 Interesting Thx again alissa.

21.01.2022 As we face catastrophic fire weather this Tuesday for Sydney, the Central Coast and Hunter regions parents and caregivers in fire risk areas are preparing to ev...acuate. Unfortunately government and emergency authorities provide no detailed information on what to pack if you have a baby. If you have infant, particularly if you have a formula fed baby, you need to have supplies to feed your baby in case you are in a situation where you are isolated. This may happen while you are travelling (the last big fires in 1994 saw thousands of people stranded on the M1 for several days, including people with babies). The below photograph and list shows what you need for 3 days for a formula fed infant. The amount is based on a fully formula fed infant having 8 feeds a day (with some allowance for contingencies). Please share!!! Leave early and stay safe! See more

18.01.2022 Its world breastfeeding week. So there will be a lot of promotion this week. I thought Id put this explanation up as to why its slogan is empower parents...... The #WBW2019 slogan Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding was chosen to be inclusive of all types of parents in todays world. Focusing on supporting both parents to be empowered is vital in order to realise their breastfeeding goals. Empowerment is a process that requires evidence-based unbiased information and support to create the enabling environment where mothers can breastfeed optimally. Breastfeeding is in the mothers domain and when fathers, partners, families, workplaces, and communities support her, breastfeeding improves. We can all support this process, as breastfeeding is a team effort. To enable breastfeeding we all need to protect, promote and support it. ILCA webpage,2019 Lets support breastfeeding families. Whatever way they come, breastfeeding, chest feeding, exclusively pumping and bottle feeding.

17.01.2022 Using a capsule, pram, bouncer or walker works against babies optimal brain, muscle and body development. Use them wisely, ie driving in the car, when necessar...y to get yourself a shower or to travel somewhere only. Wearing baby in a sling is totally different and much more helpful to their development for several reasons. "The only time a baby should be in a car seat is when they are traveling in a car." "Sounds like a simple statement, but for those of you having babies now, it may be a radical suggestion. I have always asked parents to leave the carseat in the car and carry the baby into my office, but few do. Why do I feel so strongly about this?" "First of all, that thing is heavy! Carrying a baby in the bucket is not easy on your back, especially after the newborn stage." "Second, its not good for baby to have their movement restricted for long periods of time. I have noticed that infants resist the buckling in, as well as the positioning in the seat. Most hate it, especially those who have lip and tongue tie. Its just not a natural position for them." "New research has my instincts about carseat usage proven and then some. In this research, they looked at 11, 770 infant deaths. A total of 348 of those occurred in a carseat, and more than half of those were in the home. The study concludes that using an infant carseat in a non-traveling contexts may pose a risk to the infant". https://www.facebook.com/365556553976717/posts/545843222614715/

15.01.2022 Truth. Neuromuscular reprogramming, nervous system regulation and oral habilitation feeding therapy are what actually make the change with a tongue tie release. Thanks Michelle Price Emmanuel OT

13.01.2022 Thx for sharing alissa from latch lactation. What do speech paths say about tongue ties being a fad? My paeditrician says theyre not a thing. I was asked this today. And am asked so many times a week, by parents of babies struggling to feed even formula bottles. "tongue tie alters the tongues resting posture when the tongue isnt in the right position this starts to impact the palate... if the palate is high vaulted and narrow the tongue is even more low and forward high palate equals narrow airway narrow airway equals mouth breathing mouth breathing equals reactive tonsils and adenoids differential dental eruption follows leading to malocclusion, bruxism etc add in sleep disordered breathing and you have a vicious long term cycle of how one little congenital anomaly changes a persons Orofacial complex" By Robyn Walsh, Speech Pathologist and Orofacial Myologist. Thank you Kellie & Milk Early Parenting: "If Tongue & Lip Ties are a fad, so is the flu? We dont ignore the flu, so why do we dismiss parents concerns about Tongue & Lip Ties? For the last 3 years, I have been working alongside a team consulting over 1000 families per year affected by Tongue & Lip Ties. MOST share a common message: 1. I WISH I was told earlier 2. WHY didnt my doctor/nurse/midwife tell me? 3. WHY did my doctor/midwife/nurse tell me it was minor or mild 4. ALL Doctors, Nurses & Midwives should know this. #tongueties #lipties #tongueandliptie #breastfeeding #milkearlyparentingsupport"
