20.01.2022 To the mother who feels broken beyond repair. You’re not, girl. You’re a fighter. You’re amazing. You ARE what your kids need.... You’re worth getting help. You’re worth fighting for. Help is out there. Just keep searching and keep fighting for the time and the space to work on you because that strength and healing is going to have a positive ripple effect in your life that will continue on through your kids. If you'd like to get support, you can connect with one of our peer mentors. Our ABTA mentors all have a lived-experience of birth-related trauma and they are ready to hear you. https://www.birthtrauma.org.au/peer2peer-support-program/

12.01.2022 Choose your words carefully!

12.01.2022 This is a fascinating observation of the difference in experience of being a woman and being a man in today's world. We all need to remember that there are things you will never truly understand unless you’ve walked in someone else’s shoes. So we ask that we all be willing to hear & trust someone else’s knowledge and experience, and not treat it one way or another simply because of their gender. YES, we have in SO many ways gained equality in our society, but really, in so ...many ways we’ve still not really achieved EQUITY. Zonta strives to EMPOWER women and remind them not to let anyone create doubt in their minds about the power of their knowledge and ability when we know deep down there shouldn’t be. https://www.youtube.com/watch

10.01.2022 IN MEMORIUM - SUSAN RYAN AO Susan Ryan AO was a founding member of WEL ACT in 1972. She spoke as Sue Butler at the first National WEL Conference held in Canberr...a in January, 1973. She was part of a national community of feminist activists who pioneered work on women’s equality in what was the wave of feminism at that time which flooded political and social movements leading to profound policy changes at all levels of government. WEL campaigned for her election to the Senate with hundreds of T-shirts emblazoned with the message: A Women’s Place is in the Senate. She was elected the first Labor Senator for the ACT in 1975. She was the first woman member of a federal Labor Cabinet as Minister for Education and was Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on the Status of Women from 1983-1988. She shepherded the Sex Discrimination Act through the Parliament of Australia, an achievement she regarded as her greatest. Past and Present members of WEL mourn her passing and salute her immeasurable contribution to women’s rights and the status of women in Australia.
