09.01.2022 Mon Repo is french for "My Rest' and was the name of the homestead established by Augustus Purling Barton in the early 1880 s....... In the 1890s the governmen...ts of France, Queensland & New South Wales decided to construct an undersea telegraph cable to link Australia to North America across the pacific ocean via New Caledonia, Fiji, Samoa and Hawaii. The cable came ashore at Mon Repos where a cable station was used until the 1920 s when it was replaced by a radio service via Sydney and the cable station demolished. The cables remained in place under the sea where they were used during world war 2 by the Australian Navy to train crews in Midget submarines operating from HMS Bonaventure to cut cables in preparation to cut undersea telephone cables in Tokoyo. Two lieutenants Bruce Enzer and Bruce Carey died during the trainning. Some remains of the cable can be seen within the former caravan park. See more

07.01.2022 Grave site of George and Maria Robinson, Musket Flat. George built, and ran, the Traveller's Rest Inn, at Musket Flat, for some years, until his death, in 1872.... George and Maria were buried behind the original site of the Traveller's Rest Inn. Musket Flat is situated along the old Gayndah/ Maryborough road. Back in the day, police had captured bushranger James McPherson (The Wild Scotsman), and had stopped at the inn for a drink. McPherson was outside, chained to one of the policeman's horses. It is said that George poured drink, gave it to a policeman, and told him to go out and give it to McPherson. An ancestor of mine, married David Benjamin Robinson, a son of George and Maria. A house, now stands, where the hotel was originally situated. See more
