23.01.2022 2020 has been quite the year Despite the challenges though We continued to row Even if just on an ergo... As 2020 draws to a close We want to wish you all the best And thank our volunteers who deserve a rest Without your support our club wouldn’t exist There would be no course to row No grounds looking great No coaches spending hours training Or boats and equipment maintaining Sculls wouldn’t be taken to regattas Rowers wouldn’t be fed and watered Friendships wouldn’t prosper and grow And most importantly no one would be able to row So, thank you to our Volunteers We look forwarding to seeing you all Again next year Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

09.01.2022 Vale Dr Stephen Hinchy OAM Dr Steve Hinchy, OAM, MBBS, PhC. JP Life Member, Rowing Queensland 1990, Rowing Australia, 2000,... Commercial Rowing Club 2001 Rowing Australian Rowing Volunteer of the Year 2015 It’s almost an understatement to say that Steve Hinchy served the sport of rowing in Australia in a wide variety of capacities and to an unparalleled level of personal commitment. He served in several capacities in Rowing Australia and Rowing Queensland. He’s lauded as having worked tirelessly to transform Rowing Australia into today’s national organisation, taking the reins at a time of great challenge. He’s credited with transforming the Officiating arm of the sport in Australia. While Steve was supported by able members of the rowing community in these transformations, his vision, leadership, commitment and personal manner were outstanding. Never remote, he worked ‘in’ and ‘with’; always accessible, always unflappable. Steve was a terrific ‘safe pair of hands’ for rowing in Australia, for many years. Peter Huggett reflected many sentiments when he commented that, if asked to name Steve’s greatest contribution to the sport of rowing in Australia, he wouldn’t hesitate in identifying Steve’s contribution as President of Rowing Australia between 1996 and 2000. He took over when Rowing Australia was in extreme difficulty. Financially, it was in severe trouble, organisationally, it was in severe trouble, in terms of rowing performance and standing, it was in severe trouble. Within four years, Rowing Australia was on a sound financial footing, organisational and governance effectiveness were restored and in 1998, Australia was named by FISA as top rowing nation, having won the World Rowing Championships, the World Junior Rowing Championships and the World Under 23 Rowing Championships. He held every position in Rowing Australia except Treasurer, and several positions In Rowing Queensland. Steve has been a Rowing Australia accredited Boat Race Official for 50 years, and 59 years accredited by Rowing Queensland. Had the 2020 National Championships gone ahead in Sydney, it would have been Steve’s 50th year of continuous service as a Boat Race Official. See more
