25.01.2022 Welcome back to a new school year. Hope you all had a great holiday and are looking forward to the year ahead. We are sure your parents are ready for you to start the term! Remember no rehearsal today, we’ll see you at our first rehearsal next week.
24.01.2022 Drumroll please... Did you work out our musical puzzle this week? Hope our clue yesterday helped. The answer to our musical mystery is BACH. Reading the clefs was the easy bit, the twist in the tale was the German notation where B natural is called H. ... This is called the Bach signature, and although it uses Bach’s handwriting it was actually invented in the 19th century. Thanks for your messages, it was great to hear from those who gave it a go.
24.01.2022 We have a brainteaser to keep your minds busy this Sunday. Of course trombonists can read all the clefs, but there is a twist in the tale, so let’s see who else can decipher this. Leave your comment below if you work it out, or private message us if you don’t want to give it away to everyone else.
24.01.2022 Happy International Music Day.
24.01.2022 Congrats to one of our BYO2 mums for solving our brainteaser yesterday thanks to theory lessons from her school days - which just goes to show it always pays to listen to your music teacher, you never know when it will come in handy. Are you still confused by our clef clues? We’ll give you a big hint today - the twist we mentioned earlier is that our puzzle uses the German notation for B natural. The answer will be revealed tomorrow.

21.01.2022 Best wishes to all our BYO members doing AMEB exams in Bundaberg today. It has been a tough year for music students, so we are very proud of your dedication to your instrument and commitment to continuing to practice throughout the year. We know you will all be awesome.

20.01.2022 Music is a social activity. When kids play with others, they’re communicating, socialising, and learning from the people around them. ABC Classic Give your child that experience by joining an orchestra. We’d love to hear from you.
19.01.2022 Attempt our brainteaser yesterday? One of our past BYO trombonists solved it and sent a private message (we told you - trombonists know all the clefs) but let’s see how everyone else goes with our new visual clue for today. Any more takers? Comment below or send us a private message if you want to have a guess or think you might know.
19.01.2022 Who can believe that we are in the last week of Term 3 already. We are very grateful that we have been able to rehearse again during this term and look forward to continuing in Term 4. See you at rehearsal at 3.45 pm today.
19.01.2022 The Anna Webb Memorial Award for 2020 was presented to BYO1 Cellist Kristoffer Apostol, who received our inaugural BYO1 Encouragement Award in 2019. Unfortunately the Webb family were unable to be present at our awards presentations this year due to restrictions that prevented us performing live, however they passed their congratulations on to Kristoffer during the Facebook live stream of our awards. Alan and Karen’s daughter Anna was a member of our Youth Orchestra family.... She came through the ranks of BYO2 to become Lead Flute in BYO1. With the sad passing of Anna in 2014 due to a tragic car accident the Bundaberg Youth Orchestra and the Webb family believed a fitting tribute would be to introduce a Memorial Award in memory of Anna. The recipient would be someone who loves their music (for the pleasure it brings themselves and others), who works diligently and respectfully as a Leader in their Section and the Orchestra as a team, who strives to do their best in all undertakings without expecting awards or accolades in return. In summary, the recipient would have a presence that all Conductors thoroughly enjoy working with and ask their members to strive for. This was the essence of Anna. Thank you to Alan and Karen, and the Webb family, for your continued support of the Bundaberg Youth Orchestra.

14.01.2022 Shout out to our fabulous conductors, we certainly won’t be replacing you with robots anytime soon. Who would make all those terrible jokes in rehearsals for a start? Seriously though, we appreciate your expertise and your passion for music, and the time you take to share that with our orchestras. We can’t wait to get back in the rehearsal room again next week.

08.01.2022 Still confused about the answer to our brainteaser this week? Take a look at the different ways music theory works around the world, and how Bb, A, C and B natural in three clefs can spell Bach.

04.01.2022 2020 BYO2 Most Valuable Player was awarded to Jackson Ainsworth who plays Trumpet with BYO2 and has also started playing French Horn with BYO1 this year. Well done Jackson and congratulations from everyone in BYO for your efforts.
