24.01.2022 And the winners are ...! A bumper crop of most excellent scarecrows this year made it REALLY hard for the judges to choose. In fact there were two entries so good the judges couldn't choose between them, so we have joint winners in the OPEN division. Lyndell Guiliano at 32 Erith Street for Hope and Philip Ayers at 17 Church Street for , Ana, the goddess of the forest, share the winner's honour this year. Both will receive a dinner for two at The Paddock Bundanoon Club, and at... the a bottle of wine from Pioneer Flask. Congratulations! Second and third places in this division both had Lewis Carroll in mind this year. Second place went to Potters Pantry for their Alice Down the Rabbit Hole, with a close third place going to Bundanoon Guest House's Alice Down the Rabbit Hole. Well done, you'll both get a lovely bottle of plonk from Pioneer Flask for your efforts. An honourable mention goes to Laurel Hones for Don’t Fly & Txt at 2A Lorna Close. The Junior division has been won by Hamish & Rory West at 9 Broughton Street for Coby, the Covid Safe Scarecrow. Well done! You'll receive $100 to spend at Bowral Bookshop, with thanks to Village Grocer & Store for their support. Second place (with a prize of a $60 book voucher) goes to Maggie Mileto for Tim O’Shanty at 31 Garland Road. And third place (with a $40 book voucher prize) goes to Leila & Miles Raad for Bundabella at 2A Elmswood Crt. Honourable mention goes to Kay Dever for Home schooling at 18 Penrose Rd. Congratulations to all the winners, and HUGE thanks to everyone for their participation. And thanks so much to our supporters Pioneer Flask, The Bundanoon Club and The Village Grocer & Store. A map of where to see all the scarecrows can be found at The Village Grocer & Store and will be posted here shortly.

23.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT FINAL RESULT OF MELBOURNE CUP TRIFECTA 28th November, 2019.... Bundanoon Lions Club would like to thank everyone who supported our fundraising this year. Amongst other things, we are working tirelessly on an ambitious project, a Lions Wellness Walk, and we will keep you informed as progress is made and this becomes a reality. One fundraiser this year, took us away from our BBQ and sausage sizzles, when we held our Melbourne Cup Sweep. The winner would have scooped the prize -$1,000 cash! However, we weren’t able to sell all the tickets. We waited anxiously for the phone to ring, only to discover that the winner was one of the unsold tickets. At this time of the year, Christmas, and given the plight of our farmers who have had a torrid time of it, first the drought and now the terrible fires, we have decided to donate the $1,000 to Blaze Aid. A farmers stock-in-trade depends on his property being fenced and we feel that this will be a valuable contribution to an organisation that is working to restore normality. We are a small club and appreciate the generosity of our community - this donation could not happen were it not for your support. This is your gift to the bush and we thank you for it. Harry Hull (President of the Bundanoon Lions Club)
22.01.2022 It’s on! Yes, Garden Ramble may have been COVID-cancelled, but the annual Scarecrow competition is still on. While we might not be able to Ramble, or participate in any of the other community events we hold so dear, so Bundanoon Lions thought the community might appreciate a little bit of the old normal amid all the new. The Scarecrow competition is actually the perfect COVID-safe event. It’s a creative task you can undertake without breaking any social distancing rules, an...d everyone in the community can either participate in or simply enjoy the results. Makers just need to bear social distancing rules in mind when considering where to place the Scarecrow in their garden. In acknowledgement of the times we find ourselves in we’ve made some small changes. This year’s competition will run in the lead up to the October long weekend. We figured this would allow for the maximum number of eyes available to appreciate the handiwork. It also means that scarecrow-making can take place during the first week of the school holidays. Entry forms can be found at The Village Grocer & Store, at Bundanoon Newsagency or via this Facebook page. So, get thinking! Get making! We hope to have a record number of entries this year.
21.01.2022 FREE BBQ AND GATHERING THIS SUNDAY 19th BUNDANOON SOLDIERS MEMORIAL HALL This Sunday, 19th January, the Bundanoon Lions Club is hosting a free bbq in the Bundanoon Memorial Hall. We are hoping that as many residents from the southern villages - Wingello, Penrose, Bundanoon and Exeter and of course the firefighters visiting or from these towns, are able to attend. ... The purpose of the bbq is for our community to gather and to talk things through, to reconnect with each other and to tell us how we might assist in normalising things in our region after the terrible fires and continued threat from them in the weeks ahead. There will be Lions members to talk to whilst others serve up our famous sausage sandwiches. In addition, tea and coffee and a wide range of cakes and slices will be served. Come and talk to each other and meet your Lions club members. Service begins at 10:00 and we look forward to seeing you there. Harry Hull (President, Bundanoon Lion’s Club)

20.01.2022 Sunday 19th January, 2020 BUNDANOON LIONS GATHERING - HUGE SUCCESS I am so proud of my Bundanoon Lions Club. With the recent horrific Morton Fire in our area, what a fabulous event we hustled together on short notice for our beloved Community and such amazing generous support from far and wide. Our aim was to give back to our Community, after all, you support us with our raffles and sausage sizzles with generous hearts. We hoped to have you gathering and chatting and taking u...p our offer of support....you didn’t disappoint. Thank you once again for so many dropping in and joining together to make our intention a huge success. Our acknowledgement to our firies, will be the presentation of your signatures in sincere thanks, for the amazing work they have performed during such dark bushfire days, weeks and months. No words can accurately say: Thank you Exeter, Bundanoon, Penrose, Wingello and Tallong RFS. See more
20.01.2022 This year, with all its challenges, we’ve had to learn to do all sorts of things just a little bit differently. Sigh. For example, for the Lions Club of Bundanoon, Christmas has always meant selling cakes and puddings alongside tickets in our usually very generous raffle. While we await confirmation that we can in fact set up our usual table on the Main Street, some of our members will be pounding the pavement this Sunday, selling raffle tickets, cakes and puddings door to door (in a COVID-safe manner of course). Cash only at the moment. Oh, and as it’s going to be another stinker of a day, please be extra kind to them and maybe offer them a cold drink if they turn up looking a bit desiccated?
20.01.2022 While we might still be a couple of months out from Brigadoon, Bundanoon Lions is getting in the spirit (‘scuse the pun) kicking off our (usually) annual Scotch Raffle this weekend. So come along to the Bundanoon markets on Sunday and pick up some tix. Three for $5. There’s a head-achingly-good collection of single malts to win (valued at over $450).
19.01.2022 Important information ..... Sunday 26th January, 2020
17.01.2022 THANKYOU Sunday 26th January 2020 Whilst we endured another warm summers Sunday, I was grateful to have another visit from the Kingscross Bikers offering us more donations. ... This has enabled your Lions Club to distribute a range of gifts to various grateful recipients. Ian, Chip and Wendy along with their team, brought the Wombats more fresh produce, blankets and towels which I hope the animal shelter will welcome (and some dog biscuits). Numerous products and school necessities - I hope to distribute this to our farmers’ wives and schools in need. Thank you guys for you donations - we will ensure they go to where the need is greatest and will tell them where it came from. Roseanna Creighton, bought numerous tins of chocolates and lollies which I delivered on her behalf, to our firefighters at the Bundanoon brigade. Thank you one and all for your generosity. Cheers Harry.
16.01.2022 DON’T FORGET. !!! FREE BBQ ...... THIS SUNDAY 19th ..... BUNDANOON SOLDIERS HALL....10am Well, we have had a teaser. 2 days of light showers but so much more is needed. Rain, hail or shine, Lions will be at Bundanoon’s Memorial Hall to serve you sausage sandwiches, cakes and slices and a cuppa.... Please come and let’s move gently towards our new normal. We have had weeks of uncertainty and anxiety and this will be an opportunity for you to say g’day, to talk to the neighbours and residents of our southern villages and to acknowledge our firefighters. I have been bowled over by the generosity of people from all over - I received a big box of biscuits all the way from Bondi. Parents and kids in the local community kitchen (called Our Big Kitchen), usually make meals for the homeless or people in need. Our new resident Margaret Price (Maggie) contacted me and made the donation on their behalf. Then I had a call and an offer of a pallet of water bottles because people out there may have had their water and water tanks contaminated . Thank you Michelle for organising this and to Ian and Chips from the Kings Cross Bikers charity for dropping it off. I shared it between our own wildlife warrior, John Creighton and the firies at Wingello and Bundanoon on their behalf. Then, there have been numerous women who have offered to bake and Lions thank all of them for their generosity. All that is left is for you to turn up this Sunday at 10:00, and enjoy the fare. Hugs are free! See more
15.01.2022 GARDEN RAMBLE Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October, 2019 A few words from our President, Harry Hull....... I can’t begin to tell you how proud I am at everyone’s effort this past weekend! We epitomised what it is to be a team and everyone put in a massive effort. What I am particularly grateful for is our Friends of Lions who worked so tirelessly through the whole weekend, those who prepared food and those who helped to served it. Thank you so very much. We were so very blessed to have had such a fabulous garden to set up our Cafe in, Paxyonton. (Garden #2). The weather was also very kind to us, although Saturday was a tad windy! We met some lovely garden enthusiasts stopping by to buy Devonshire tea, coffee and purchase a tasty morsel from our large selection of cakes, slices and biscuits and for those who arrived at lunch time, our gourmet sausage sandwiches and Italian meatball subs went down a treat. We wish to thank Paxyongton Garden’s owners, Michael and Edmund for allowing us the use of their magical garden. Also we would like to thank all of you, the General Public for visiting the garden. Without you all the day would not have been so successful. Once again a huge shout out to all Bundanoon Lions and Friends of Lions who were just outstanding.

12.01.2022 FEBRUARY DINNER MEETING Tuesday 11th February, 2020 We held our monthly dinner meeting on Tuesday at The Club Bundanoon and it was very successful. We had a fabulous attendance from our Members and Friends of Lions and guests, 29 of us altogether. We enjoyed each other’s company and had many laughs. ... Many thanks to our Guest Speaker for the evening, Kaye Tompson. Kaye spoke on a wide range of local topics pertinent to our beautiful Highlands District. Kaye enlightened us on many aspects of the ins and outs of our Local Council, projects for our area and a wealth of other information. Kaye announced that she is intending to stand for council as an Independent. We wish her all the best for her endeavours for the future. Thank you to all who attended to make the evening such a great success.
08.01.2022 DINNER MEETING and INDUCTION 8th October, 2019 Once again we held our dinner meeting at The Club Bundanoon. We are now growing in numbers and too big to dine at a members house including partners and guests.... The evening was very relaxed and full of chatter and laughter. We hosted 3 guests, Dianne and Don Gray and Mark Brenton. The highlight of the evening was the Induction of John Wood as a full Lion of Bundanoon. It was with great pleasure, our President Harry Hull and supported by his sponsor Geoff Hobart, presented John with his Certificate and Badge. We look forward to a long association with you John. Our Guest speaker was our very own Ralph Clark, who gave a wonderful insight into how Lions started from humble beginnings. Thank you to Ralph for his knowledge and time to present a great segment. Our dinner was delicious and the staff were fabulous. Well done and double thumbs up to you Arni, Chester and Peter for ensuring that the evening was a success. Also a thank-you to Karin and Thea for a great workable table setting and decorations. All in all the evening was a great success.

06.01.2022 SCARECROWS ON DISPLAY AND THE WINNERS ARE........ The Judges had an extremely hard time of judging the Scarecrows this year as there were so many and they were all amazing. Out thanks to those impartial judges for their time and decisions. Here are their results........ Adult Section 1. Frida Kahlo Marie Klausen We both loved the color, the positioning (easy to see), the subject and the notice to detail 2. Mr Macgregor, Peter Rabbit and Friends Potters Pantry Once again visibility, subject to detail of the vegetables and seedlings in the foreground and of course Peter Rabbit and friends And Mr Macgregor was just as he actually looks!! We also thought that honorable mention should be made for Wood Nymph. Laurel Hones and Sock Monster Milly Lester Both were also exceptional for there originality and the explosion of colour in the Sock Monster Children’s Section 1.Indi and her Chicks Indianna Elphick. We thought this was delightful the positioning of Indi and the cheeky look on her face. 2. The Birdman of Bundanoon. Audrey Dabin To us this was a true scarecrow once again well positioned and a very colorful bird 3. Dangerous Dennis. Chloe Ward and Tilly Contre. Once again a genuine Scarecrow very well put together by 2 young people. The face was quirky and we loved the outfit. We would also like to send out our sincere thanks to our generous sponsors of The Bundanoon Lions Scarecrow Competition. Without them the event would not be so successful. Our Sponsors are: The Empire Cinema Bowral Bundanoon Bloomery The Club Bundanoon and Potters Pantry. 02.01.2022 We’re back! We know you’ve been hanging out for a Lions sausage - it’s been such a long time between bangers! So we’re super excited to be firing up the BBQ again at the next Bundanoon market, this coming Sunday. We’ll be set up on the school oval - just keep an eye out for our bright yellow trailer. We hope to be a presence at the second Bundanoon market each month. ... We’re complying with COVIDSAFE guidelines so you’ll notice some small changes to the way we usually do things. For example, to streamline the whole money taking thing there’ll be a blanket charge of $5 for either a sausage and onion roll or a bacon and egg roll. Cash only. Oh and a gold coin donation will get you one of our cold drinks. Can’t wait to see you there!
