24.01.2022 A pinched nerve, or cervical radiculopathy is a condition where a nerve is irritated or compressed as it passes through the tunnel on its path to the arm. It ma...y cause pain in the neck and shoulder region, but the worst pain is commonly felt in the arm. A physiotherapist can utilise various manual therapy and other treatment techniques in the acute phase, with follow up treatments in the subacute and persistent phases. If severe pain persists, neck surgery may be considered but studies have shown there is no difference in the final result some two years later for those that have not had surgery. #choosephysio for a pinched nerve. 20.01.2022 Current evidence suggests spinal fusion has little advantage over a well-structured rehabilitation program for back pain. Despite this, rates of the procedure a...re on the rise. A recent article published on The Conversation calls for research efforts to shift from studies looking at different ways of performing the surgery to a greater focus on investigating whether or not it works better than non-operative treatments. 19.01.2022 A recent American study has found those who saw a physiotherapist as their first point of care for the treatment of low back pain were 89 per cent less likely t...o receive opioid prescription and 28 per cent less likely to require advanced imaging services. The study also found patients had significantly lower out-of-pocket costs. These results support GPs recommending physiotherapy first as a result of the recent changes to the availability of codeine medications in Australia, and another step in the direction of choosing physiotherapy first. #choosephysio. https://bit.ly/2J7PKEv See more

16.01.2022 Common symptoms of sacroiliac joint dysfunction include localised pain to the buttocks region. This will generally be on one side and will travel down the side ...of your tailbone. Pain can radiate from the buttocks and down the side of the leg (or into your pelvis, scrotum, labia or penis). Aggravating activities can include arching your back, twisting in bed, long car journeys, walking up hills and going down stairs. A physiotherapist skilled in the area of lumbopelvic and hip pain can differentiate sacroiliac pain from other areas that can refer to the region, including the lower back and hip. Your physiotherapist can then design a comprehensive plan of manual therapy to the pelvis and surrounding joints and muscles as needed. #choosephysio for sacroiliac joint dysfunction. See more

This research has also shown the way pain is viewed and interpreted may impact recovery. Professor Lorimer Moseley, FACP, and leader of the #PainRevolution states, ‘If we can appreciate that pain is a protective device, not a measure of tissue damage, if we can communicate that to people, then we change the game.’ See more

04.01.2022 WHAT'S HAPPENING AT BUNDEENA PHYSIOTHERAPY... I (Susie), want to thank and appreciate many of you for your kind thoughts, well wishes, gifts and practical help showered on me since i broke my wrist 5 weeks ago. I have felt loved and appreciated and it has meant a lot to me. I now, of course, have firsthand experience of what it is like to break a bone (in lots of bits) and to be without the use of a limb, unable to work, needing to ask for help for the everyday tasks. A hum...bling and challenging place to be. Ok, so enough already! What's happening with us? We have continued to be up and running with Emma treating patients on Mondays and Tuesdays. For those of you whom are not aware, Emma joined us in January this year. Adding to Emma's experience, Susie has been passing on her particular style of stability training, neurodynamic and other treatments to ensure everyone has consistent treatment and service. We have had great feedback from Emma's patients and we are all happy Emma is part of our team. We are especially thankful that Emma has picked up the reins over the past weeks to provide ongoing service. Susie's cast comes off next week (yay!) and hopes to be back on deck in some capacity a couple of weeks later. Don't despair help is (t)here! So don't worry we are still here to help you with your pain, difficulty getting around or doing the things you need to do in life. Bundeena Physiotherapy has been here for 9 years and we want to continue to provide local, high quality physiotherapy services for many years to come. To do this we need your support. So we ask that you let us help you with any pain or movement issues with the convenience of staying local, not needing to travel out. Bundeena & Maianbar we are here for you! Do not hesitate to call us on 9544 5565 for help and support to get you "moving with life". Warm Regards from our team at Bundeena Physiotherapy - Susie, Emma, Kylie & Jane See more
