25.01.2022 Our goats happily nibbling on a treat of fruit tree prunings. Farmer Matt sticks the branches in the fence to mimic trees, and the goats love stretching out their necks to reach the tasty leaves on the top! If you’d like to visit our cheeky goats now the farm has re-opened, then don’t forget to pre-book your entry tickets on our website www.bundoorapark.com.au

24.01.2022 These stunning poppies self-seeded in our community garden this spring, and we thought it was apt to share them on Remembrance Day. Any avid gardeners out there know what variety they are? We think they could be Pink Peony Opium Poppies. If you’re visiting the farm be sure to have a wander through the community gardens to admire all the spring growth. Just don’t forget to pre-book your farm entry tickets on our website www.bundoorapark.com.au

23.01.2022 Check out the amazing eyes on our farm cat Millie! Have you ever noticed that domestic cats have vertical-slit pupils? These type of pupils are most common in predators that are active during both the day and night, and scientists believe they help the animals better judge distance when ambushing prey. Cat’s pupils are very different to the horizontal rectangular-shaped pupils of goats, which are grazing animals and need a wide field of vision to be aware of predators.... If you missed our post last week featuring photos of goat’s eyes, then scroll back through our timeline and check them out as they are equally amazing. Thanks to Farmer Rachel for this great photo of Millie the cat.

23.01.2022 Spotted on the farm earlier, Santa with his newest reindeer recruit!

22.01.2022 Our animals are famous! Check out this great Melbourne Fashion Week video by VERNER, which was shot at the farm. Our animals and grounds have never looked so glamorous Keep your eyes peeled for cameos by Ben the Clydesdale and his owner Graeme, Silkie the chicken, goats Phillip & Kate, Bam the lamb, cows Thelma & Chelsea, and ponies Ned & Snowy.

21.01.2022 Meet the animals Hi I’m Hamish the donkey (that’s me in the foreground of both photos with the long fringe). I’m an Irish miniature donkey and I live at Bundoora Park Farm with my twin brother Malachy and our friend Jenny (who’s the white Jerusalem donkey in the background of the photos). Malachy and I are very special, as it’s rare for a donkey to have twin foals that survive. When we were born we were only the second known set of surviving donkey twins in Australia, and ...the seventh world-wide. I was born first and Malachy second, which is why he was given a boy’s name of Irish origin meaning ‘second’. We came to the farm from Geelong when we were one-year-olds, and we are 12-years-old now. Jenny is a bit older than us and in her mid 20’s. To see us when we first came to live at Bundoora Park Farm back in 2010, watch this great video by Leader Newspapers https://youtu.be/VOJuN8tUCmA Make sure you come and visit us next time you’re at the farm as we’re very friendly. Thanks to Farmers Rachel & Hayley for taking these great photos of us.

21.01.2022 Have you ever noticed that goats have horizontal, rectangle-shaped pupils? Their unusual shaped pupils give them a wide, almost 360 deg field of vision which is useful when you’re a grazing animal as you can be more aware of predators when you have your head down eating grass. Next time you’re at the farm check it out for yourself, you’ll be amazed! You might also be able to spot horizontal-shaped pupils on our sheep and horses.... Don’t forget you need to pre-book your farm entry tickets on our website www.bundoorapark.com.au

20.01.2022 Ben has been enjoying getting out and about at the farm with his owner Graeme to munch on the nice green grass. He also likes to check in on what the staff are up to, and stopped by our sustainability playground to check on progress by our Education team members who are getting the playground ready for a new garden. 19.01.2022 And we’re open! How lovely it was to open the doors of the farm to the public this morning for the first time since March. We loved hearing the sounds of happy children and families enjoying the farm, and seeing lots of smiles on kid’s faces. The animals were pretty excited to have visitors back too! If you'd like to visit the farm now that we have re-opened, then don't forget to book your tickets on our website www.bundoorapark.com.au

18.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be NAIDOC Week 2020 takes place this week across the nation to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres... Strait Islander peoples. The theme 'Always Was, Always Will Be' recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. In this video, Darebin Aboriginal Advisory Committee Co-Chair Jenaya Kastamonitis and member Ellie-Jean Singh tell us about NAIDOC Week and some of the ways you can learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history. Visit our website to find out other ways you can celebrate NAIDOC Week: http://www.darebin.vic.gov.au//Even/Annual-Events-Program

18.01.2022 Due to the recent weekend announcements and Darebin considered a hotspot, the decision has been made to postpone the reopening of Bundoora Park Farm, including the Farm Caf. We apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment, but hopefully well be able to re-re-open soon. For all those that have pre-purchased a ticket, we will be calling you today!

17.01.2022 Weve noticed a recent increase in the number of reported dog incidents across Darebin, so we would like to remind pet owners to only take their dog off-lead ...where they are allowed... The City of Darebin is an on-lead council area. That means unless you see a sign informing you can have your dog off-lead, your dog MUST remain on-lead. This includes around playgrounds and on shared paths. Were giving residents and park users a heads up to avoid receiving an infringement. Please also remember to pick up after your dog when out and about.

17.01.2022 What’s the best way to clear out an overgrown garden bed? Bring in some sheep of course! A #ThrowBackThursday to when we were maintaining the farm’s community gardens during the lockdown.

11.01.2022 We are excited to announce the reopening of Bundoora Park Farm and Caf on Monday 22nd June 2020. We want to send a big thank you out to the community for their ongoing support during the closure, we received many beautiful messages and we cant wait to have you back down on the farm with us again. As with most things, weve implemented a number of changes to ensure the safety of the community and our staff. Youll need to have a pre-purchased online ticket, were limiting ...the number of people that can enter the farm during our morning and afternoon sessions, so therell be lots of space for everyone! We wont be having any group animal feeding or handling sessions or wildlife rides (just for the moment), but dont worry! Youll still be able to get up nice and close with animals. For all the changes weve made, and to book your ticket, head to our website www.bundoorapark.com.au Were super excited to see you all and so is this cheeky pony Dylan. Credit: Farmer Niki See more

11.01.2022 Meet the animals Hi I’m Millie the Bundoora Park Farm cat. My official titles are ‘Keeper of the Barn’ and ‘Chief Mouse Catcher’, but you might see me sleeping on the job sometimes! I had a rough start to life and was lucky to get a second chance when I was adopted by the farm as a 9-month-old. I was very shy when I first arrived and took a while to come out of my shell and trust everyone. I am four years old now though and love my life on the farm. I like hanging out with... Kate the goat and am also friends with some ravens that hang around near the barn, as I quite like birds and am not really interested in trying to chase or catch them. I do like to catch mice and rats though, and I present them to the Farmers so they know I’ve done my job and to let them know that I’m ready for my dinner from them. I’m always grateful for a scratch from passers-by, like Farmer Rachel and Volunteer Emma who took these fantastic photos of me. I also like to keep watch over the farm from the top of the barn, where I like to meow at Farmer Matt (who took the great photo of me in my lookout spot).

11.01.2022 Important information below with regards to the closure of Bundoora Park Farm

10.01.2022 There’s been lots of blossom on the fruit trees in the farm's orchard this spring, so it looks like we’ll have a good summer of fruit. Farmer Rachel and Gardener Stacy netted some of the cherry, plum and quince trees as they were hit hard by the birds last summer. If only we could train the territorial geese who live in the orchard to scare away the birds who eat the fruit!

10.01.2022 Where’s Chelsea? In bovine bliss in the lush long grass! Thanks to Farmer Niki for capturing the moment.

10.01.2022 More Bam the lamb cuteness brought to you by Farmer Hayley, who took these adorable shots under the shade of one of the farm’s mulberry trees.

We will keep you all posted on a reopening date. Photo credit: Volunteer Emma

07.01.2022 The farm’s curious emus walking up to the fence in our wildlife reserve to check if the farm ute we were driving past in contained any food for them! 07.01.2022 The bees are loving all the flowers popping up on the chive plants in the farm’s community gardens. Have a look out for pollinators in the farm’s gardens if you’re visiting this weekend. Just don’t forget to pre-book your entry tickets on our website www.bundoorapark.com.au
