25.01.2022 Next step, the speedy and motor. I checked over the speed control and besides needing a clean it seemed in good order. The only problem I found was a burn on the positive wire, so I put some heat shrink over it, then cleaned up the contacts and put some fresh switch lube on them. Both resistors looked in really good shape, so did the rest of the wiring so thats all done now. Testing the motor was not necessary, I could tell it was worn out after a quick look. So I decided to put in a new Tamiya sports tuned motor. Just wanted something a bit better than a silver can but nothing to taxing on the old speedy.
25.01.2022 No.3 and No.7 Just need the new tyres and some new springs for No.7 now.
25.01.2022 Notification : Bundaberg Regional Council are having a Auction on 12/03/2016 at the Depot in Hartnell Street East Bundaberg. Viewing will start at 7:30am until 10:30am and the Auction will start at 10:00am. Lots of Machinery and Vehicles as well as tools are up for Auction.
24.01.2022 After disassembling no.7 the first thing to fix was the servo. I noticed that the servo horn was also worn out and was flexing a lot. A new futaba 3003 servo was used in place of the old worn out acoms unit. And after rumaging through the spares box I found the parts I needed for the horn.
21.01.2022 Here is a small part of the collection I have put together. All are original vintage rc's. I have restored some and others are untouched.
21.01.2022 I bought two hotshots off ebay just before christmas and when they arrived they were in pretty bad shape. No.3 was and still is fairly well busted and not running. No.7 was a bit rough but still running(barely). After a test run I could tell the steering servo was shot and the motor and/or the speed control was also buggered. And so the fun begins...
20.01.2022 Test run! Since it was raining and dark outside had to take it for a quick run inside
19.01.2022 Back to life!!!
19.01.2022 Oops, forgot to add this pic of the lights.
18.01.2022 So what's so special about the Hotshot? This was Tamiyas first 4WD buggy and one of the very first 4WD rc's ever made. It's basically the grand daddy of all 4WD rcs and was a real game changer in the rc world when released in the mid 80's. Still highly sought after today really good examples can fetch a pretty penny as this car represents a piece of history.... I'm lucky to have two of these cars in such good condition along with their instruction manuals and a perfect condition original box. For those who don't know the numbers 3 and 7 are two numbers you can choose from on the sticker sheet. My no.3 is the one I wanted as a shelf queen as this is the number depicted on the box art. The whole vehicle has been restored to look exactly as it appears on the box as this is how many collectors prefer the vehicles to look.
14.01.2022 A big job!!! two Hotshots in need of full restoration.
14.01.2022 Been really busy at work this year and have had some other dramas, so sorry I haven't posted anything for a while. But I have picked up a heap of vintage stuff and have been restoring them when I've had the chance. I'll post some pics soon. In March/April next year there will be something special happening that I've been working towards for a while now. So keep an eye on this page for details.
11.01.2022 And here's one I restored earlier. Hopefully the other two will come out this good.
09.01.2022 Cleaning and greasing everything ready for re-assembly is next. Polishing all the alloy and rejuvinating the plastics makes a huge difference to the appearance. Lubricating all the gears in the diff and the ends of the driveshafts keeps it all running smooth. Cleaned up and refilled the dampers but the springs need replacing.
08.01.2022 Nearly there, just the body left now. Some paint was chipped and worn off inside the body so I touched it up with some tamiya PC red, removed the no.3 sticker from the rear wing and replaced it with the correct no.7 and painted the back of the spotlights black. All the body pins were missing so I replaced them with some Tamiya pins, these are particularly important on the wing as they are what holds it on.
07.01.2022 Sorry for the poor quality of the photos, I will be using a much better camera from now on. A detailed description and better photos will be posted about all these vehicles and more in the near future.
07.01.2022 Wheels and tyres, unfortunately the previous owner decided to paint the wheels yellow so this means I have to remove the paint to bring them back to original white. The old tyres are starting to crack and perish which can't be fixed, a new set is on the way so I'll just have to wait until they arrive to replace them.
04.01.2022 So I've been working on no.7 Hotshot, trying to make it functional again. Decided I would use this one as a runner since I've already restored one for a shelf queen. Will post some pics shortly.
