25.01.2022 Young Eliza had a traumatic day yesterday. Not only was her mum hit and killed, Eliza has also suffered significant injuries including a break. Whilst I am sure well meaning, please never tie the limbs of animals together. Having her hind legs tied up means we cannot be sure how most her skeletal trauma has occurred.

25.01.2022 Young Atlas came and joined the mob yesterday. He is very tired after spending many days with a member of public who thought keeping him in a box with only a blanket and feeding him human baby formula, oh and surrounded by young children was ok Please if you find an orphaned or injured native animal call a rescue group straight away, not after you get sick of playing with them

24.01.2022 This cute little pocket rocket came in last night. She is drinking like a pro and loves being cupped in my hand

24.01.2022 Before I order some and find there are warehouses full of it, do any of the groups which had supplies for the fires have spare tubes of flamazine? My fence hangers which are under veterinary treatment go through a tube almost a week. Pictured is Beau one of the latest fence hangers

24.01.2022 Poor little Rusty. His mum was trapped and skewered on a fence. She was deceased for a number of days before being found

23.01.2022 Today is National Kangaroo Awareness Day

23.01.2022 Another little fence hanger in, young Percy. And a very sweet little ringtail with some massive wounds

22.01.2022 This poor little munchkin lost his mum tonight when she was accidentally hit. Luckily though, unlike many people, this person stopped and found bubs walking on the road. As you can see, he has a very sore head and nose and we can't be sure what other internal injuries have been sustained. Ointment on his wound and pain relief time will tell how he goes. I've named him Bump

22.01.2022 Please meet Bill, Bill got himself tangled in a construction gate which had fallen over today. He has a deep laceration on his foot and feeling a bit sorry for himself. Lucky for Bill he has a room mate in Conrad, so they can share how not to clear fences that silly people put in the way stories...

21.01.2022 Our dog attack wombat is back home (the purple is to provide protection from insects while the wounds finish healing)

20.01.2022 Thank-you to all our hard working volunteers, associated shelters and transporters!

20.01.2022 When you've had a hard day doing nothing, there's nothing better then having a nap in the freshly cleaned wombat pen.... Roger and Lawson

20.01.2022 Fence hanger number 17 for 2020 arrived this evening

20.01.2022 Whilst we don't as a rule pair up different species, both Gem the glider and Olive the ringtail needed a friend. As social species it is super important that they have a friend to keep them occupied and in the wild these species would have overlapping home ranges.

20.01.2022 We have never had a year like this one, so many juvenile eastern greys being caught in fences. I can only guess the reason for this is either; - people are home more often then usual and finding the kangaroos before they die or, - There are more people out and about with dogs and the mobs are being startled and/or chased. ... Please if you are out and about with your four legged mates keep them on a leash and do not allow the dogs to chase our native wildlife. Please also keep them out of reserves and parklands which state no dogs allowed. And please use wildlife safer fencing https://www.wildlifefriendlyfencing.com/WFF/Home.html We welcome young Tucker to the family today See more

20.01.2022 Two new youngsters in today. Marvin the brushie rocking the bat wrap. He was found by a cat and I'm just hoping we have started antibiotics quick enough. And just in, little Polly wally who I've just dropped off to Tina to be raised with Ollie wally

19.01.2022 Such a good mum

19.01.2022 We are really lucky to work with some amazing shelters who will raise some of our youngest members of the mob until they are a bit bigger.

19.01.2022 When getting out of bed for breakfast just seems like too much hard work

18.01.2022 On our own door step. Please make some noise call delwp, call your local Councillors and the developers. Make them relocate. Many of these females will have joeys in pouch. According to the current legislation the joeys will be killed through bashing their heads. I'm over hearing that these animals in plague proportion. Humans are in plague proportion, yet culling our species is classed as murder. These animals are our first Australians they have more right to be here then we do

18.01.2022 slowly slowly we are getting there but we still need your help

17.01.2022 Thank-you to our shelter helpers and foster carers for helping us look after our amazing wildlife

17.01.2022 The grass started in the bowl...

16.01.2022 Wishing everyone a Merry Xmas and Happy Holiday. Thank-you to my amazing shelter helpers, to the donors to the shelter and everyone who supports us!

16.01.2022 Another victim of unsafe fencing, little Conrad's (so don't judge me for the name but it seems fitting for us Victorians....) mum was frantically trying to save her little boy but he was stuck by both hind legs in barb wire. We can't feel any breaks but he is unwilling to move his legs, which makes judging circulation to the leg hard. Hopefully warmth, medication, a good sleep, some snacks and a lot of love and he will be feeling better soon. Sorry mumma roo, hopefully your baby will be up and hopping with his new brothers soon

16.01.2022 The juvi wombat yard is so close, but so far. This yard has been self funded/self built! Until I can find a grant to purchase the custom built shed and concrete shed pad (approx $3900) other then more dirt, plants and a couple of gates this is how it will remain!

16.01.2022 Thank-you for your support. I have listed possible people to contact below

16.01.2022 I've been a bit slack with pics recently as I'm flat out with some major pen changes at the shelter. So here's some pics of Conrad. He 's his mum cuddle times post bottle and bandage changes

15.01.2022 Our 4 individual sugar glider orphans have finally decided friends are pretty awesome to have Gem, Jewel, Travis and Russell

15.01.2022 When standing on the ground doesn't allow easy access to the grass on the floor....

15.01.2022 Earlier this year we were lucky enough to recieve a grant through wildlife Victoria. The custom build stack cage arrived this week and has already been put into use

14.01.2022 The face of a baby who will be murdered tonight

14.01.2022 I was whinging that all the new pens are hard to build by myself. Enter two 'helpers'. They have now been sacked for eating on the job, digging holes where not required and unsafe work practices....

14.01.2022 Some very simple ideas to keep our wildlife safe not just during summer, but all year round

14.01.2022 Our newest arrivals. Two very sweet sugar glider joeys Jewel and Travis who are slowly being introduced to Gem. And young Todd who was rescued after being spotted hoping down a main road with no mum in sight, thank-you to Todd's work mates whose quick actions meant his little namesake wasn't injured by a car

14.01.2022 The sun was shining and Spike was up for lunch (supervised by Allira)!

14.01.2022 Trying to get pics of the older roos. Apparently Bill really likes the camera....

14.01.2022 Cause our wildlife aren't persecuted enough already....

14.01.2022 This is Conrad, he was doing nothing wrong just following the mob. Please use wildlife safe fencing, or better still no fencing at all. Photo credit @Stringybark Wildlife Shelter

13.01.2022 Reckon Atlas is jealous that I'm feeding the little ones and not him?

12.01.2022 Before I introduce the trusting new fence hanger who I received very late last night. Here are some pics of Percy (red pouch) our youngest hanger with his new friend George

12.01.2022 For those with a Herald Sun subscription (I don't so I can't tell you what's in the article!)

12.01.2022 Roger and Lawson are checking out Conrad the new shelter resident

11.01.2022 New arrival tonight, little George who will hopefully be a pal for Simon. George's mum was chased by a dog and unfortunately he became airborne in the process

10.01.2022 A massive thank-you from Harvey the possum to everyone who donated in the month of June. Your donations will go straight on formula

10.01.2022 Jayda has found her sunning spot

09.01.2022 A massive thank-you to everyone who donated through the month of December. Your donations help buy the specialised formula and hard feed the wildlife need. As the weather heats up, here are some handy tips to keep our native wildlife cool. There are also a large number of rescue calls coming through for Grey Headed Flying Foxes (fruit bats). These animals are essential to the ecosystem and are one of the main pollinators for the eucalypts. If you have fruit trees please consider sharing your fruit with wildlife, there are fine mesh fruit bags which are for sale, consider using these to save some branches for human consumption. If you do find a bat stuck underneath the net please make sure you call a rescue group and never attempt to touch these animals!

09.01.2022 Gorgeous Simon has come back to the shelter after Tina has been raising him for me. Simon and I would both like to remind anyone if they haven't already, please continue to email both Lily dAmbrosio and Office of the Conservation Regulator (Kate Gavens). The decision on the Kinley kangaroos will be made today with shooters going in as early as tonight (apparently they are exempt from lock down requirements) [email protected] [email protected]

09.01.2022 I have been super busy at the shelter with lots of work going on and new rescues coming in. We could not rehabilitate some of our sickest patients without the ongoing support from a number of veterinary clinics. Today Spike was treated to first class diagnostics which was organised through a combined effort with Animal Emergency Centre and Veterinary Referral Hospital. Thank-you to Dr Bronwyn and Dr Alasdair and staff from both clinics who donated their time and expertise. Thankfully Spike should make a full recovery from her fractures with cage rest.

08.01.2022 After 13 years our logo has had an overhaul. Special thanks to Leanne from Bush Babies for weaving her magic!

07.01.2022 Two of the custom build aviaries are up. The aviaries are designed to have middle compartments removed if needed and they are 2.1mt high which will hopefully help with air flow. I was able to design and purchase these thanks to a Wildlife Vic infrastructure grant Wildlife Victoria

07.01.2022 And another fence hanger in... this gorgeous girl was cut from the fence by quick acting community members, but when free, fell into the dam. She has been cleared of fractures but her foot is a mess. Time will tell what the outcome will be. Welcome to the mob youngster

07.01.2022 A pouch full of lanky legs means another little roo in. This time a girl which means Allira finally has a sister (and 9 brothers....) . Thanks to Jodie who noticed something wasn't right when a young Joey was frantically trying to get into any female roos pouch she could find, only to keep getting pushed away. We don't know where Jayda's mum is or why she was left. It has been sometime since she has been safely tucked in her mums pouch. Now with a full belly this little girl has slept the night away.

07.01.2022 If you have pets please keep them locked in at night (and for cats locked in during the day too!) Three little lives lost

05.01.2022 There have been quite a few new arrivals in the past 3 days. Hopefully I will have the ringtails in the brand new avairies today. In the meantime here is some pup photo spam of Freddy the newest member.

05.01.2022 This little dude was dropped to our local vet on Thursday after being found in a car

05.01.2022 Sent him outside to play with his brother as a wombat.... comes back as a mud monster #Lako

04.01.2022 Cleaning ones wings is very important bat business. *Please note I am vaccinated against rabies. Do not handle a bat if you find one, please call a wildlife rescue group for advice

04.01.2022 When your big brother comes back home from soft release cause he's feeling a bit yuck and suddenly you are no longer the big kid... poor Rodger has had the wind taken out of his bossy sails lol

04.01.2022 Hi guys, whilst i would love to help with all the orphans coming in... the shelter has been without power since Thursday and on boiled water advice since yesterday (not sure how they propose I cool the water given I have no fridge!). Just trying to hire a generator so at least I can wash the massive pile of pouches

04.01.2022 Our shelter is a registered charity

03.01.2022 Today's fence hanger is looking a bit brighter now her sedation has worn off and she's had a bottle and a gentle cuddle. I can hear her munching on grass. Sage

03.01.2022 This sweet girl was found out in the daylight and easily approached. I'm not sure why she is so quiet but appears she may have been struggling for awhile. Look closely you might just see she has a couple of passengers onboard

03.01.2022 It doesn't seem to stop..... last night mum and I caught an adult female wombat who had been spotted by locals acting a bit strange. Thanks to Sue's help she had a thorough vet check today which revealed she had been attacked by a dog. She is now in care to rest and heal. A new young kangaroo fence hanger in this morning who is sore and sorry for himself called Bear. And finally a young ringie who lost his sibling in tragic circumstances.

03.01.2022 I often get asked if I am paid for the wildlife care. My response is to laugh, no the government would much prefer the animals I put my heart, soul and wallet into raising, were dead. So how do I fund rehabilitating Australia's native wildlife, a 'job' which costs me about $30,000 a year to do, when I calculate the cost of formula, specialised feed, enclosure maintenance, veterinary work up, continuing education and petrol? Oh and that $30,000 doesn't factor in the loss of... sleep, the stress, the plastering on a everything is just fine smile, the barrage of abuse we often cop from well meaning and not so well meaning public, the loss of a social life, the inability to just pop away for the weekend.... So, back to how I fund this non paid 'job'. I work full time, I make wildlife rescue and rearing products in my 'spare time' to sell and reality I beg and grovel for funding from philanthropic organisations and people who support the shelter. See more

03.01.2022 Please email, and email lots. Tell them what you think of their system (nicely please)

02.01.2022 When 'mum' takes too long to bring you the grass and you have to self serve Sassy

02.01.2022 Spike has gone home :) hopefully this time she stays away from cars. @Animal Emergency Centre Veterinary Referral Hospital

02.01.2022 Keep putting the pressure on the ministers to allow our team to relocate this mob. Jump onto the Kinley kangas page and check out the other amazing people involved!

02.01.2022 Conrads favourite pastime. Food!

02.01.2022 These two are besties. Not too sure what Bill is shielding Conrads eyes from, maybe the lights which are now back on?

02.01.2022 The new aviary is now furnished and already has it's first guests! Thank-you to Wildlife Victoria, without access to their infrastructure grant none of this would be possible

02.01.2022 A new little roo in today. Finley is just one of the joeys that are currently calling Kinley Estate home. His mum was hit and had to be euthanaised, while exceptionally sad for Finley's mum and Finley, he is now safe from the murder DELWP want to impose on his mob. Photo taken by Sue Samphier at Bungalook Creek Wildlife Shelter

01.01.2022 And another fence hanger! Just a youngster this time. I've named her Zahli

01.01.2022 A few people have asked about the Kinley Kangaroos. A dedicated team have spent hours/days pulling two documents together to be presented to DELWP. These documents are based on years of experience from individuals heavily involved in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. It's now in DELWPs hands
