25.01.2022 Did you know that it was 50 years ago the iconic Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) - or rubber ducky - revolutionised how we performed rescues? It has since become a vital piece of equipment that is used not only in Australia but right around the world. Since records started the mighty IRB has saved 108,000 lives. There are currently 1,094 IRBs being operated by 7,292 drivers and crewed by 14,388 crew in Australia. They are used by all 314 surf clubs to carry out rescues each we...ek. #50yearsIRBs #mysurflife #LIFESAVING
22.01.2022 A big congratulations to all members and those involved in the club this season for all their hard work. A few members of the club attended the Branch Presentation night on Friday night at Dee Why RSL. The club had numerous nominations this year including : innovation of the year, life saver of the year, patrol captain of the year and also Patrol team of the year.... We were lucky enough to have our Building Bungan program nominated and win the Innovative award for 2018/19 season. Other clubs clubs took well deserved wins in the other categories. As a club, we managed to place in the overall point score from our inspections/assessments and will now recieve funding next season for the hard work and quality life savers we have on patrol. Once again congratulations to all involved as your hard work has most certainly paid off and put Bungan on the map.
21.01.2022 It is with a great sadness in our hearts that we let you know that Colin Rae has passed away. He will be missed not only in the club but across the entire surf life saving community as he has been instrumental in creating it to be what it is today. Col joined Bungan Beach at the start of the 1990-1991 Season having previously been a long-service member of Manly Surf Life Saving Club. Col had been awarded his Bronze Medallion in 1968-69 whilst a member of Queenscliff. He has a...lso been a member of North Palm Beach. He became involved in the setting up of Warringah Surf Rescue in 1970 and joined the Branch Board of Examiners in 1978. He remained an assessor until very recently. Col came to the Club at a time when we were struggling to fulfil our patrol commitments. The impact of his presence was immediate and he was a vital cog in ensuring that the Club has subsequently met its patrolling requirements. Col was also integral in forging stronger ties with Sydney Northern Beaches Branch, presiding over an upskilling of our patrol members, encouraging and enabling members to gain the many awards required on the beach. The culture that he created and the values he placed on the services we provide has ensured our patrols are suitably manned and well equipped. Colin built strong relationships and made many firm friends within our ranks. He commanded the respect of both the older and younger members of the Club, as was testified by the IRB Racing teams naming of the latest boat, The Col Rae. Col has held numerous committee positions right up until his untimely death. He was Club President from 1999 2006 during which time he was awarded the Australian Sports Medal. In that period he introduced new ideas, implemented alternate procedures and streamlined many processes. He did stints as Club Captain, Competition Manager, Branch Delegate and Club Secretary. He was Gear Steward and Radio Steward up until the end of last season. Col also served on the Building Committee for a number of years as the Club moved towards the official opening of our current premises. Colin has performed countless hours patrolling on Bungan Beach. It was only his recent poor health that curtailed his patrolling. Col was awarded Life Membership of SNB Branch and of Bungan Beach SLSC. We wished he could have enjoyed it for longer. We farewell a good mate and a good man. Rest In Peace Col, you will truly be missed.
