25.01.2022 Random, obscure newspaper article nicely hidden, as follows: Council has now lodged a development application for the Bungendore Sports Hub to be located off Bungendore Rd. Stage 1 of the Sports Hub includes:... Bulk earthworks Construction of two flood-lit sports fields Installation of irrigation infrastructure Two flood-lit hard courts Car parking Amenities, including changerooms, toilets and canteen facilities The Bungendore community has been heavily reliant on Mick Sherd Oval and in recent years it has become evident that the community has outgrown that space, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council’s Service Manager, Urban Landscapes Tim Geyer said. The development of the Sports Hub will provide the growing Bungendore community with a dedicated venue for sports such as soccer, football, rugby union, netball cricket and AFL which will become the premier sporting venue in Bungendore. Future stages of the sports hub will include additional fields, swimming pool and further community assets. While the development application is currently under assessment, it is unable to be approved until the acquisition of the land is complete. It is expected that this process will be complete by the end of August 2020. A tender for the final design and construction, along with bulk earthworks will be determined at the 26 August Council meeting, meaning that following development application approval construction will be able to commence swiftly. Council is aiming to have the two main sporting fields operational for the winter 2022 season. The hard courts will be available sooner. The project has been funded by grants received from the NSW State Government. $1,500,000 was received from the Stronger Communities Fund and $950,000 from the Stronger Country Communities Fund. 25.01.2022 Tree Devastation We seem to be lurching from one destruction of Bungendore's old tree canopies and gardens to another. And after Council wanting to annihilate the garden in central Bungendore to make way for a carpark, they shifted their attention to Frog's Hollow and now the elms between the Old Stone House and Cleanseeds.... Hundreds of trees gone or going.
23.01.2022 So much change happening to the historic centre of Bungendore. We have huge growth occurring which makes places like the village green all the more important. It is about good planning and this area with its gardens and market earning economic potential is vital to Bungendore.... Let us work together to save it.
21.01.2022 QPRC So this is how QPRC operate.....they are going to start work tomorrow and clear the grove of elms - starting at 7.30am. There is no concern or consideration for Bungendore's history. It is all about housing developments and three fold increases of Bungendore's population, and the knock-on effects to the historic village is just collateral damage. ... QPRC are modelling Bungendore's CBD on Queanbeyan - this is the model they are using. This is what Bungendore is on the fast track to be. WE ARE IN TROUBLE BUNGENDORE.
19.01.2022 TONIGHTS ZOOM COUNCIL MEETING - BUDGET CAR PARK PROPOSAL Please Bungendore community - we ask you to register to speak at tonight's council zoom meeting. The meeting starts at 5.30pm and so far, we understand Council only have a few registered speakers. If the community does not show interest, then we will lose this green space and we will have a concrete car park instead.... Lost will be the opportunity to inject vibrancy, activity and everything that goes with buzzing community, which will in turn, assist business and provide a wonderful space for the community. A car park will not attract or create business but a vibrant village green buzzing with activity will. The car park is item no 9.13 on the agenda. You also need to ensure you have the Zoom app loaded.
18.01.2022 BUNGENDORE HIGH SCHOOL UPDATE Earlier today we posted about plans for the new high school in Bungendore. We understand a formal announcement will be made tomorrow, Friday 14 August.... We posted information we were given which has resulted in speculation and confusion. We will post about it again tomorrow when the proposal is publicly available, hopefully in full. We expect that, once the proposal is formally announced, many of the issues we raised in our post this morning can be discussed and debated without distracting speculation and argument about details.
18.01.2022 BUNGENDORE'S MICK SHERD OVAL Tomorrow, on the steps of the Council Chambers in Bungendore, Barilaro will announce that QPRC has entered into an arrangement to sell the Mick Sherd Oval, its pools, tennis courts as well as the Council Chambers, and Abbeyfield (land alongside the Council Chambers) and any other parcels of land they can get their hands on, to the Department of Education for a High School. So much lost in a such a short space of time. No consultation. ... No consideration for heritage. A threefold increase in Bungendore's population and our loss of heritage is a cost we did not expect to lose. And NO ONE consulted us and in fact, EVERYONE INVOLVED has been sworn to secrecy for 12 months while the deal for the sale of Bungendore's heritage has been put together. EDITED - Even if the statement the oval will be sold on by the Council is incorrect because the land is, in fact, crown land, the arrangement has been brokered by council and councillors. The end result is that the Oval will be lost to the general community. And where are our representatives - where is #MarkSchweikert in all this?
17.01.2022 Families with kids attending Country Kids Club after school care at Bungendore Community Centre were informed this morning that the Club would be closing down p...ermanently if the high school is approved for Bungendore Park. The Club had planned to move to the Bungendore Scout Hall. But according to the Director, they couldn’t get regulatory approval. And the reason? Several issues have come up in particular the risk assessment conducted for the access from the Scout Hall to the School with the route changes when the build for the High School commences. So there you go. After sitting down and taking a proper look at the traffic arrangements, when hundreds of kids and thousands of cars, trucks and buses are converging on Bungendore Park every day, the regulators concluded that it was simply too unsafe. They made the assessment that the Department of Education should have done at the outset. A local business will be forced to shut down and a vital community service will be forced to close. As one parent said: Not only does this mean we are now going to have to try to get our kids into the already long waitlist for the other Before and After School care program, our kids are going to have to be resettled into new environments and staff. as a direct result of this ridiculous proposal. Of course, if you read the planning application, you could be forgiven for not knowing that there was a preschool right there, or that the Community Centre was anything other than a health hub (whatever that is). You even have to look hard to find mention of the primary school. It’s as if the Department of Education wanted to pretend they didn’t exist. Which makes sense, because no proper assessment of these plans could ever accept the dangerous traffic situation they will cause. Does anyone still think this is a good idea? Well now we know for a fact that the regulator doesn’t. And sadly, that’s going to have a real impact on local families and local kids.
16.01.2022 The Village Green space - showing its components and how it will work for the community and businesses alike. So very exciting if it comes to fruition.
16.01.2022 Please take the time to attend.
15.01.2022 And it has begun... too much of our heritage is being bulldozed. Enough is enough.
13.01.2022 Tomorrow morning, 27 hard-copy pages, with 350 original signatures, will be tabled on a petition in Parliament in Sydney, calling on the Minister for Education ...to reverse the damaging, last-minute decision to subdivide and develop Bungendore Park. That’s 350 members of the local community who have taken the time to actually put pen to paper and voice their opinion, in just the last few weeks since we learned that our electronic petition with hundreds more signatures couldn’t be tabled. The State Government pretends we don’t exist. It doesn’t want to listen to the hundreds of people telling it why it’s a bad idea to build an overcrowded school, on a too-small site, on a public Park. Well we’re making ourselves heard at Council. We’re making ourselves heard in Parliament. There’s well over 100 written objections lodged to the development applicant, and many many more to come. We'll make ourselves heard before the Independent Planning Commission and in the Land and Environment Court if the Department of Education is crazy enough to push it that far. The State Government has thrown the entire weight of its marketing and PR team into selling this plan, under the guise of "consultation". But it turns out we didn't swallow it. We're just not as gullible as they think we are. There’s overwhelming opposition to this plan. And for good reason. It’s a truly terrible idea, cobbled together in a last-minute backroom deal. The school will be overcrowded from the day it opens, and the situation will only get worse. Gibraltar Street will be a deadly traffic hazard. The site is being investigated for serious lead contamination issues. There’s no room for kids to play and grow. And the community will lose most of its historic park. Does anyone still think this is a good idea?
12.01.2022 MCCARPARK IS COMING TO BUNGENDORE Council are proceeding with the car park despite over 90 submissions, nine presentations at the council meeting and a swathe of businesses objecting to the current design. We still have an opportunity to promote a vibrant village with our central green space - to host markets, events, social functions, family gatherings or just sit and enjoy the greenspace for what it is, a green oasis in the centre of the village.... Or we can have a great big concrete car park. Following are the councillor email addresses and mobile phone numbers. We urge community members to please ring, text or email councillors before the next council meeting on Wednesday. 11.01.2022 The buzzing vitality of a car park in Bungendore. If the green space is allowed to remain and the car park shown is expanded to include the land behind 15 and 1...7 Gibraltar Street - then this whole area WILL be a hive of activity - something everyone wants. A stand alone car park will only ever be what it is - dead.
11.01.2022 - UPDATE - COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT BUNGENDORE CENTRAL CAR PARK - AGENDA ITEM 9.13 Even though the QPRC website says that all registrations and submissions for tonights meeting must be sent in by 12pm today apparently we have up until about 4pm. If you wish to make a verbal presentation via their ZOOM meeting link please make sure you have to ZOOM app loaded on your device. If you want to send in a writ...ten submission it can be attached when you register. Below is the link to the registration page https://www.qprc.nsw.gov.au//Public-involvement-at-Council WHY CAN'T WE COMPROMISE AND HAVE THE GREEN SPACE AND A CARPARK
09.01.2022 Over 300 submissions sent in with more due by post, and the majority are against building the High School on Bungendore Park. What a great effort and response from the community. Good job Bungendore. Surely Dept of Planning will have to reconsider this dogs breakfast of a plan now SAVE BUNGENDORE PARK The Department of Planning has received 309 online submissions from the community, which are now available on its website. Apparently there are plenty more to come which were... sent by post. And we can see that the overwhelming majority are opposed to this inappropriate development proposal. Hundreds of people have taken the time to set out in detail why it’s such a bad idea. What an amazing result! Thanks to the hundreds of members of the local community who have made themselves heard. We’re so impressed by the passion, commitment and great ideas of those who’ve stood up to defend our town against this planning disaster. The Department of Education has spent the last year trying to sell this bizarre, deeply flawed, last-minute plan. Well the community has overwhelmingly rejected it. We’ve seen through their nonsense and spin. You can read the submission from Save Bungendore Park Inc here: https://majorprojects.planningportal.nsw.gov.au//getConten And if you want to look at them all, they’re on the Department of Planning’s website: https://mpweb.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/.../12921/3446
09.01.2022 WHY? Why is council pushing for this carpark now. The supermarket is no longer there. It has been 10 years. We are still affected by Covid lockdown... Why the rush.... Why does council want to model Bungendore's CBD on Queanbeyan's. WHY? Please look at the attached. Please act before we have this horrendous, unnecessary car park built on green space - particularly when QPRC are saying we lack recreational land....and it goes on.
08.01.2022 If you haven’t gone through the documentation yet I suggest you do so. Amongst the devil in the detail is the effective gross disrespecting and destruction of t...he War Memorial gathering area. Bungendore comes out in force for celebrations at the Memorial. This is just obscene disrespect by the Council and the DoE and will make the normal gathering virtually impossible. Remember you need to lodge submissions tomorrow to be safely inside their deadline.
05.01.2022 BUNGENDORE OVAL GRAVE SITE There are many stories about the Bungendore Oval grave site. So we did some quick research via the Bungendore History Facebook page, and found stories and photos that many local residents contributed over the last couple of years. We are not claiming this to be a definitive or totally accurate history of the site, rather a compilation of local knowledge and memories. If you want to see the information yourself you can simply go to the Bungendore ...Continue reading
05.01.2022 A comprehensive submission on the Village Green space.
04.01.2022 BUNGENDORE HAS BEEN ACCUSED BY DEVELOPERS AS BEING DELICIOUSLY FRAGMENTED. Perfectly ripe for the picking. And he deliciously rubbed his hands with glee saying that if people in places like Bungendore want to sit back - you get what you are given.... It takes less effort to be proactive and influence changes than reactive and fight the consequences of non involvement. Lets work together and prove the developers and council wrong. Lets take some control - like other connected communities do. If people want to join the BRG message us through the Facebook page.
03.01.2022 LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION We realise that the proposed plan released yesterday is as yet just a concept, and requires A LOT more work, and we now all have the opportunity for input. Many people have worked very hard to lobby for a high school which is obviously very important. But equally as important is what will be lost or irreparably compromised because of the chosen location. Residents who have only recently joined our community won’t be aware of the efforts put in beh...Continue reading
