25.01.2022 UPDATE ON OUR DUCKLINGS IN CARE - The ducklings are now spending some time in their outdoor habitat and growing well. They will spend another week or two with our vet nurse Gwen before Susie (another of our wonderful nurses) takes them on the next stage of their release journey. It's wonderful to see them doing so well!
24.01.2022 This echidna was rescued on Norton road after she was attacked by dogs. Her back end was covered in blood and mud. She was anesthetised to facilitate xrays and a bath. The xrays showed an old healed fractured of the right hindlimb but otherwise she was in good health. She has been in care with a local carer for a few weeks now and she is going well. We recently received the very happy news that she has an egg in her pouch- YAY! Watch the video to see the steps of her treatment and the egg in her pouch.
24.01.2022 It was all hands on deck this week when Bungendore Vet Surgery had this mum-to-be undergo an emergency caesarean. This beautiful mum came in as she was showing signs that her labour was not going according to plan. An ultrasound was performed and the pups were found to have lower then expected heart rates. The decision was made to go ahead with an emergency caesarean. Thanks to the amazing work of our nurses, all 8 pups survived. What amazing team work!
23.01.2022 This is Ice. Ice was treated for snakebite last week at Bungendore Vets. Due to the severity of his clinical signs he had to be transferred to ARH Canberra to be placed on a ventilator. We are happy to report that after 6 days in hospital at ARH Ice was discharged today. He came in to thank Helena for saving his life. Helena and nurse Kara had to drive Ice to ARH while breathing for him because the ambulance was unavailable. The second picture is nurse Gwen manually ventilating Ice while he was in hospital with us prior to his transfer.
22.01.2022 Wayne the sheep was in this week for a mass on his ear. He has recently come into care as a rescue case with one of our local sanctuaries. Dr Stacy did surgery to remove the mass with adequate margins as the presumed diagnosis was a tumour. Wayne did very well during his anaesthetic and is expected to make a full recovery.
22.01.2022 EDIT: Thank you all for your kind offer to donate money to help with his care but please note we are just looking for an owner, not financial assistance. His issues are chronic in nature and we just need to find his owner to discuss his ongoing care. Please be assured that we are looking after him while he is in our care. We need your help! Does anyone know this dog? He presented as a stray today. He was found on Osbourne Street. He appears to be geriatric and in need of veterinary care. Please contact Bungendore Vet 6238 1133 urgently.
22.01.2022 It's that time of the year again... We are selling Wildcare calendars to support our local wildlife carers. $10 a calendar is a bargain for all the beautiful pictures you get! Please note we are only taking cash payments. Pick one up from our reception before they sell out!
21.01.2022 Kenzie was in recently to see Doctor Chris and her owner made our day by dressing her up in reindeer antlers. Isn't she adorable??! Please feel free to share pics of your pets in their Christmas costumes- you will make our day too!
20.01.2022 WE HAVE TREATED OUR FIRST SUSPECT SNAKE ENVENOMATION OF THE SEASON. Over the weekend we had a cat present with vague signs of lethargy and inability to jump. Snake envenomation was confirmed on blood work. Please start to be mindful of your furry friends outside and call us at Bungendore Vet if you have any concerns.
20.01.2022 Do you have a pet that is a little unsure about coming to the vet? Does the thought of a vet visit make your furry friend run and hide? All of us at Bungendore Vet Surgery strive to make you and your pet feel welcome on every visit. Unfortunately sometimes cuddles and kind words aren't enough and we need to consider anti-anxiety medication for your pet prior to arrival. If you think your furry friend's anxiety is getting in the way of a positive vet visit, please give us a call and we can discuss your options.
19.01.2022 This is Van. Van was in this week and we think he has THE COOLEST hairdo. It is kind of a mix between the 80's crimp and someone who goes surfing a lot. He also looks like he has frosted the tips and has a front mullet. I think we all wish we had hair like Van.
19.01.2022 Check out these two cuties enjoying swims! They are wood duck siblings separated from their family by an unfortunate incident who are now in care with one of our vet nurses. Once they are old enough and taught to fend for themselves, they’ll be released back into the wild. If you find ducklings on their own, collect them to keep them safe and warm before checking the area for the rest of their family. If you can’t find any, make detailed notes on the area you found them and contact Wildcare or take them to the nearest vet.
19.01.2022 WHO DOESN'T LOVE GELATO??? This week we organised a visit from an amazing local business as a surprise for our hardworking staff members. Mel from Mellabella Gelato brought her cart to Bungendore Vet on Wednesday and we all had a ball trying some yummy flavours. We can not recommend her and her gelato enough! P.S. She also does home delivery in Bungendore.
18.01.2022 PUPPIES AT OUR LATEST PUPPY PRESCHOOL. Here is a video of our most recent puppy graduates. We have been running the classes outside to meet COVID requirements and also to give the pups more room to run. We are all about socialisation and having fun while we learn. Contact us at the vet if you have a puppy who might like to join us.
17.01.2022 Bella and Eddie recently got to enjoy some time on the beach with Dr Jack. We love these pics because they just look so darn happy! We would love to see some pictures of your furry friends doing their favourite things with big smiles on their faces. We all need a cheer up with the cold weather this week.
15.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who helped out to make our Santa Photos a huge success yesterday. Kay did an amazing job organising it and we hope everyone who came had fun. We got some great pics- here are just a few. We also raised $480 for Pets in the Park!!!!
14.01.2022 UPDATE! RUFUS HAS BEEN FOUND! Dr Clem's cat RUFUS is missing. He is microchipped and very friendly. Please keep an eye out for him and let us know on 6238 1133 if you think you have seen him!
13.01.2022 Dr Michael makes his very lucky dogs homemade treats. We thought we would share the recipe because we LOVE this idea. INGREDIENTS: 4 cups plain flour, 2 cups grated cheese, 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 cups of water. Mix to a dough, roll and fashion to whatever shape you like. Bake in 115 degree oven for 2-2.5 hours until dry and crisp. Makes approx 80 treats. Watch your dog think you are the best human ever.
13.01.2022 To anyone who wanted to say their final goodbyes to our dear friend Trapa, he has been laid to rest under our vet sign. Here he can continue to supervise us at the vet and keep watch on his second home at Bungendore Rural. It is also close to the handicap parking spot which was his favourite place to sleep. We have marked his resting place with a plaque. He will be forever missed. RIP Trapa.
12.01.2022 One of the things we love about our job is that we never know what the day will bring or what species. Dr Stacy recently saw this goat for an udder issue. Her left mammary gland had been effected by mastitis a few years prior which had resulted in the ligaments holding the udder in place to rupture more recently. This was causing the goat some discomfort as the udder was dragging on the ground and she was having problems with mastitis again. Dr Stacy performed surgery to remove the affected udder and the goat is now doing really well. We are expecting her to make a full recovery
12.01.2022 It has been a tough few weeks for us here at BVS with the loss of our dear friend Trapa the cat but puppies this cute certainly do go a long way to putting a smile back on our faces. We hope they bring a smile to your faces too!!
11.01.2022 An appreciation post for the lovely human who sent us these yummy cookies yesterday.... you know who you are :) Certainly brought a smile to our faces. Thank you!
11.01.2022 Dr Clem doing amazing things again!
11.01.2022 Is there anything cuter then a kid and their pony?? So many of us grew up with a pony and knew the joy of riding from a young age. For many of us this is one of the reasons we became vets or vet nurses. Do you have kids that love horses? Make us smile and show us your pics!
10.01.2022 Did you know that some cats love food puzzles? While often pet owners will set up food games for dogs, environmental enrichment and games have many benefits for our feline friends! Some ideas are demonstrated by Dr. Megan’s cat Normy in the video (from basic to advanced games):... - empty paper towel roll - slow feeder - treat dispensing ball - hiding food in tunnels/other areas for your cat to find - food within a milk crate All of these are best done supervised for the safety of your pet, especially initially. Post a comment of your cat having a go or if there are any other things you do with your cat!
07.01.2022 For anyone who has ever wondered what the back of a horse's mouth looks like, WONDER NO MORE! You can see one of the rows of molars, the palate and the tongue in this image. You can also appreciate how little room there is back there. That's why it is so important that when a dental is performed the clinician has the right tools like a light source and a comfortable mouth gag. It is also why appropriate sedation is imperative so a thorough exam can be performed and dental work completed without risk to the horse or the operator!
07.01.2022 This beautiful maremma pup was in recently for a vaccination. Maremmas are a relatively common breed in the Bungendore area but they are very different to most other dogs. They are herd dogs that are often used to protect livestock or chickens. They generally bond strongly to one thing and protect them fiercly. Sometimes they can bond to a person or family, other times they are working dogs. Generally they are a breed that is more anxious in a vet setting because they are not used to being handled or being inside. For this reason it is even more important to socialise them heavily and get them in for regular vet visits (even if it's not for anything but a pat and a treat) if you intend to have them as a pet. This little girl is on her way to happier vet visits.
07.01.2022 This is IZZY, ADDY and HARRY and they are currently in care with our amazing vet nurse and certified wildlife carer Kay (she wanted me to write good looking too!). Izzy has been in care for 5 months, and Addy and Harry have been in care for 4 months. They were all orphans from road accidents. Kay often brings them to work as they still require regular bottle feeding. Aren't they adorable??
07.01.2022 Triplet Babydoll lambs yesterday thanks to Dr Carla! They had got themselves a little tangled in the tight space and needed some assistance to be delivered.
06.01.2022 For anyone following the rehabilitation and release of our wild ducks, here is a video of their soft release at our nurse's dam. They are now flying and swimming and have made some new wild duck friends. We are very excited to see them doing so well.
05.01.2022 A thorough examination of your horse’s mouth is the most important part of an equine dental exam. In these pictures of some of our recent patients you can see our set up, with the head elevated by our dental halter. The horses love a rest from carrying their heavy heads and relax nicely into the support of the dental halter! Many people have a stable, yard or round yard with a beam above the gate, this is our ideal spot to set up and perform your horse’s dental.
04.01.2022 We are proud to annouce that we are now an Approved Vet for Guide dogs NSW/ACT Canberra puppies. The only thing that makes seeing cute puppies even better, is doing it for a good cause.
03.01.2022 REMINDER!! Santa photos are tomorrow. To those who have booked, please be on time. We can't wait to see you! There are still a few slots available but you need to ring the clinic today between 9am and 1pm to book otherwise you will miss out
