23.01.2022 Everyone is talking about coronavirus! At the Rabbit Doctors we are aiming for service as normal as long as is sensible. We have always been very strict with ...hygiene because of the ongoing calici type 2 outbreak so are well prepared for this. However you may notice a few extra changes in the clinic - please use the hand sanitiser provided, try to minimise the number of people that come in with your bunny (ideally one person only) and try and keep a social distance of 1.5m apart whilst in the clinic. We will always stay our chatty, friendly selves, but there will be NO hugs from Dr Gerry, or the other staff members, and no smooshies for humans from Dr Nicole (buns can still have them!). here are other some things bunny owners should know... 1. you cant catch or give corona virus to your bun! 2. bunnies can live quite happily on hay and good quality pellets for a few weeks if you cant get your normal supplies of veggies - think of growing herb seeds in pots now as a longer term supply. 3. if you are unwell , please reschedule your housecall or clinic appointment (or get someone who is well to bring them in). 4. look out for your friends / neighbours with and without bun kids - do they need anything? Its going to be a tough few months for us all, but we can all help each other stay as healthy as possible. You can use this page to stay in touch with your bunny mates around the world and ask for / give help where needed. Remember there are positive sides to self isolation - you get to stay at home and spend more time with your buns. STAY WELL, PROTECT YOURSELVES, BE KIND TO OTHERS, FLATTEN THE CURVE LOTS OF LOVE FROM THE RABBIT DR TEAM

23.01.2022 Just updating to let you know that the family have made fresh treats and the menu items have been updated. I love their aromas. the fresh rose and organic lavender ones are my favourite. We all snack on the dehydrated fruit & veg as they are all quality human grade organic fruit & veg. Even the love birds are joining in and eating special made treats. We may have to consider adding our freshly made bird snacks if there is any interest shown.

20.01.2022 Calicivirus Vaccine Update! They are hearing us! Keep up the emails please!!! NEW EMAIL below to send to... I had a call today form the vaccine manufacturer. He... wants us to email the CEO of the APVMA Chris Parker [email protected] Please open up your email program and send an email to the following email asking for a vaccine to cover all the strains of rabbit Calicivirus in Australia. Please sent an email POLITELY (it is important to be polite) asking for a vaccine for RHDV2 rabbit Calicivirus Vaccine. Sample email text: (Just use this text and hit send)... [email protected] (02) 6770 2300 Dear Chris Our beloved pet rabbits are dying in droves around Australia. They are dying due to a strain of rabbit Calicivirus that our vets do not have a vaccine for. This strain is RHDV2. Can you please let us know when you will approve the Australian manufacturers application to put it on the open market to protect our bunnies? When can we expect this approval to happen? The Manufacturer, Dr Mark White from Treidlia BioVet has it ready to go. Please give him the red light! Please help our bunnies as we love them so much.

20.01.2022 Rude customer ....

19.01.2022 Dont panic - There is plenty of hay available in Victoria. More than enough for all bunnies. However, some people want to stock up in case they are having to s...elf isolate and we understand this. A bag of our hay should last one bunny 4-6 weeks depending on their size. We can only store so many bales of hay at CARE every week, so keep to things fair, and so it doesnt turn into "toiletrollgate", until further notice clients can pick up a maximum of 2 bags of hay per week from the Rabbit Drs. You can also order home deliveries of hay through Pet, horse and farm in Essendon (share a bale with your friends!). In these tough times, please look out for your fellow bunny lovers - make sure the humans and the bunnies have what they need (but not inappropriate quantities). Looking for a way to grow cheap veggies? Did you know you can re-grow the green bits of celery (and chicory, carrot tops and other veggies) by putting the stumps in water. These are Dr Gerrys creations - the 2 sprouting ones are 3 weeks on, the less green ones are 5 days. Why not post your hacks / tips for cheap / free greens for your buns? See more

18.01.2022 It has been such a sad week with so many Animals crossing over the rainbow bridge. We thoroughly feel your pain. We hope your pain passes soon. St Francis of Assisi has his Remembrance Day on the 4th October. Our favourite bunny nephew crossed over to the rainbow bridge on this date. All I can think about, is that all of us humans losing so many beautiful buns is the period is that God needs help to guide the young and old and St Francis is the Patron Saint of all animals and... will be spending enough time with everyone & every bun & will also be there for those crossing over at all times. Please remember the time your bunny made you laugh and did the best binkies, kisses and you felt each others warmth as that is true love right there. Just laying together & feeling your warmth together, true love, alive in both on your hears together for ever. God Bless you all See more

The handout can help you r...emember what steps to take to protect your rabbit and reduce the risk of them becoming infected with RHDV. Recently an RHDV outbreak was confirmed in Utah, bringing the number of affected states to seven, including parts of Southern California, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Several states in Mexico have had outbreaks as well. Download the handout: rabbit.org/rhdv

07.01.2022 Lest we forget The full poem Recessional by Rudyard Kipling God of our fathers, known of old, Lord of our far-flung battle line, Beneath whose awful hand we hold Dominion over palm and pine Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forgetlest we forget! The tumult and the shouting dies; The Captains and the Kings depart: Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice, An humble and a contrite heart. Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forgetlest we forget! ... Far-called our navies melt away; On dune and headland sinks the fire: Lo, all our pomp of yesterday Is one with Nineveh and Tyre! Judge of the Nations, spare us yet, Lest we forgetlest we forget! If, drunk with sight of power, we loose Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe, Such boastings as the Gentiles use, Or lesser breeds without the Law Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forgetlest we forget! For heathen heart that puts her trust In reeking tube and iron shard, All valiant dust that builds on dust, And guarding calls not Thee to guard, For frantic boast and foolish word Thy Mercy on Thy People, Lord!

04.01.2022 Enrichment 1 Foraging can be fun and cheap! If you have access to a garden, a neighbours garden or a friend/family members garden then its as easy a...s that! Collectibles like grass, fruit tree branches (like apple, pear) and leaves and dandelions are great for your buns to munch on and chew together. Foraging for food is a natural behaviour and is also a great tool for bonding rabbits together. 2 Boxes and hidey holes Bunnies love places to hide - and moreover its key that they have the chance to feel safe and secure whether indoor or out. This can be as fancy as those custom build bunny castles - or as #ratchet as a cardboard box with a couple holes cut in (aka my preferred method) Cardboard boxes are great fun as they give the bunnies a chance to bunstruct! Interior design is a common career choice for buns - and though you do see and hear stories of cardboard causing gut problems, this isnt a reason to jump to do not let your rabbit have any cardboard. As with anything, monitoring your rabbits behaviour with something new is important. Ingesting some is relatively normal, just watch that they can tolerate it. 3 Tunnels! If youve got an outside setup, @runaround.co.uk tunnels are amazing - they can help you meet the minimum space requirements whilst giving your bun something fun to play with and a new element in their enclosure! If youre indoors, something as simple as a cat tunnel can bring lots of joy 4 Most important is space: all rabbits need access to 60sq feet of space 24/7 and company of their own to share this with. Rabbits are sociable, active creatures... just like dogs, just like us. Giving them the correct amount of space is immensely important in allowing them the freedom to move and behave normally, to interact with their own kind and to just be rabbits!
