23.01.2022 Thousands of loved ones are still with us because a brave bystander stepped in. Today we’re launching ‘Shocktober’ and asking all Victorians to learn CPR + fin...d their nearest AED. To find the AED near you head to the link in our stories #shocktober #easyasaed #moretocome

22.01.2022 Today we pause to remember the dedicated men and women who have died serving their community. #NationalPoliceRemembranceDay #NeverForgotten

22.01.2022 Overnight, all news channels have been removed from Facebook. This has affected many pages you may use. This is a good time to ensure that you’re not reliant on social media and are subscribed to the Vic Emergency app for emergency updates: https://www.emergency.vic.gov.au/

21.01.2022 Are the kids bored, maybe some cool games from Captain Koala! https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/kids-schools/puzzles-and-mazes

21.01.2022 Did you know the flame temperature of a bushfire can reach 1100c? It will be too late to make a plan when a fire is approaching. Be prepared and know what you’ll do in the event of a fire. #PlanActSurvive

21.01.2022 Spontaneous ignition is the leading cause of haystack fire in Victoria, and just one damp bale is enough to ignite a haystack. There are a number of things you ...can do to minimise the likelihood of a haystack fire starting on your property, including: Make sure hay is well cured before bailing Know the history of the hay you purchase Keep haystacks to a limited size Monitor moisture and temperature of your hay regularly Watch for unusual odours - such as pipe tobacco, caramel, burning or musty smells. Keep your haystacks safe as the weather starts to warm

20.01.2022 As summer approaches, now is the time to prepare and #getFireReady. Be sure to download the Vic Emergency App on your smart phone or tablet to have all the latest warnings and incident information at your fingertips. This is an essential tool for those living in high risk areas. The app can be tailored to create watch zones relevant to your home location and other places you frequently visit. 1. Download the Vic Emergency App from the App store or Play Store... 2. Create a login and password 3. Login and set up a new watch zone 4. Either use your exact residential address or just type Bunyip as the origin of the watch zone 5. Choose a watch radius for receiving notifications. We recommend a minimum of 5km but 10km is probably better. Remember the larger your radius, the more notifications it will pick up in that search area (even those outside of Bunyip) and the more notice you may have of any impending incident or occurring event. 6. Hit the next button and give your new watch zone a relevant name (you can have multiple watch zones in different locations if you like) 7. Scroll down to the incidents heading and under the Fire Tab, we recommend that you turn on the All fire Incidents tab as a minimum. 8. Customise and choose which other categories/notifications you wish to receive (as a general rule we don’t get too many shark sightings or tsunamis in Bunyip so you can probably leave those ones turned off ) 9. If you find you are receiving too many or not enough notifications you can increase/decrease your watch radius or turn on/off some of the incident notifications Don't hesitate to contact us at the brigade if you need assistance. Stay Safe

19.01.2022 Deciding where to go when you leave early on a high fire risk day should be part of your plan If you do not have friends or relatives in low-risk areas who you can visit, consider community facilities such as libraries, shopping centres or cinemas.

16.01.2022 Road Safety Week is an opportunity to highlight the devastating impact motor vehicle collisions have on our loved ones and our first responders. CFA responded t...o a total of 4,350 motor vehicle collisions last year and during the warmer months we saw an increase on the monthly average. We know Victorians are making plans to get back on the road this weekend and over summer. We are asking you to make sure every journey you make is a safe one.

13.01.2022 Thousands of Victorians are still with us because a brave bystander stepped in. Every day around 18 Victorians will have a cardiac arrest, with only 1 in 10 sur...viving. Bystander intervention has the greatest impact on improving that rate. Did you know that performing CPR and using an AED lifts the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest by 68%? October is now dubbed 'Shocktober', as Ambulance Victoria encourages all Victorians to learn CPR and locate their nearest AED. #shocktober #easyasAED

04.01.2022 Today Victoria Police have launched Operation Safeguard calling on all Victorians to please be aware of activities you do throughout summer which may cause fires. Careless behaviour could lead to causing a bushfire with devastating consequences. Take extra care this fire season when lighting recreational fires like campfires, conducting burn-offs or using machinery. Keeping our communities safe from bushfire is a shared responsibility.

02.01.2022 Are the kids driving you round the twist? Try out these great coloring sheets.

01.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Koala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is a ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels.... Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. For more information on preparing your property please see here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare #CKDoesSummerPreparation #LessFuelEqualsLessFire #PlanAndPrepare #CleanUpBeforeABushfireDoes
