19.01.2022 Lifting and rigging, in particular the use of slings, can be fraught with danger if the proper precautions aren't taken, which is why it's the topic we're cover...ing next for our #SafeWorkMonth series. Here's a great checklist for the safe use and care of slings: Interval inspections required every three months on flat & round slings as per the standards (flat slings: AS 1353.1, round slings AS 4497.1) For heavily used slings, the inspection schedule should be more frequent Operator to inspect slings for any damage prior to each use Never overload the equipment Do not use if ID tag is removed or illegible Do not use slings if any signs of defects sighted, such as cut webbing, snagging, internal fibres visible, heat/chemical damage, excessive wear, damage to seams, or any other sign of defects Do not tie knots Protect sling webbing from sharp edges of the load and use protective covers Do not expose slings to temperatures above 90 Keep away from strong alkalis and phenolic compounds Inspections shall be carried out using checklist for records defects and other comments.
