21.01.2022 Here is our second featured title. Wrecks and Reputations is a thoroughly researched account of the wrecks of two sailing ships the Loch Ard in 1878, and the Schomberg in 1855. The Loch Ard story is well known to all who visit the Shipwreck Coast. The ship hit the end of Mutton Bird Island, near the Twelve Apostles and sank quickly. All passengers and crew drowned, except Tom Pearce, an 18-year-old ship's apprentice, and Eva Carmichael, also 18, who was travelling with her ...family to Melbourne. This is a saga of their survival against all odds. The Schomberg was the finest clipper Britain ever built. Her master was the famous 'Bully' Forbes who was trying to better his own record sailing between England and Australia. He lost the Schomberg on her maiden voyage off Curdies River where the town of Peterborough is now. The author of Wrecks and Reputations, Don Charlwood, was a grandson of one of the Schomberg passengers and recalled his grandmother's comments about the ship, captain, the wreck and the rescue of all passengers. 21.01.2022 So the profile photo I've selected is a selfie done by my father around 1936! My Dad, Don Charlwood, who passed away in 2012, was living and working at Nareen in Victoria's Western District, when he set up his camera to take this portrait of himself sitting on an old well, wearing his Frankston High School blazer. Burgewood Books publishes seven books written by Don Charlwood and a CD about the wreck of the sailing ship Loch Ard. We also publish my late mother Nell Charlwood's recollections of life on the Canadian prairies; a facsimile edition of Dad's great-uncle's shipboard diary of 1863, and a book by Andrew Lemon and Marjorie Morgan about the worst shipwreck in Australia's history.

09.01.2022 So I'm finally trying to get a Facebook page set up for Burgewood Books! We have an online shop at www.burgewoodbooks.com.au and I will add images of our book covers and a bit about each one.

07.01.2022 Burgewood Books website also has details of two more books written by Don Charlwood - All the Green Year, published in Text's Australian Classics; and No Moon Tonight, published by Crecy in the UK and available on the Burgewood Books website. More information about our books to follow.
