24.01.2022 PISE COTTAGES The most striking feature of Angle Vales early settlement was the Pise construction used for the first buildings. Stiff clay or earth is rammed between boards as building material. Historical records indicate there were at least four such buildings on Angle Vale Rd close to the corner with Heaslip Rd. Allotment 11 a house and post office, 12 was used as a pound and 13 a house belonging to the Short family. On the corner was the remains of a wall which was ...the front of Mr. Bateups shop where he made farm machinery. 05.01.2022 RIFLE COMPANY Gawler River Rifle Company was formed 27th July 1861 as a result of a war scare in Europe. There were 55 enlisted and on the first day 68 local men from both sides of the river took an oath before J.H. Riggs JP and sworn in, including Window, Heaslip, Symes, Edgecombe, Hatcher, Wilkinson, Pederick, Magor, Williams, Roberts, Dawkins & Burford. After complaints about stray bullets from a practise mound of dirt (butt) near the river a strawstack was built behind an...d the area and became known for many years as Butts Road. Government provided each man with a five foot long rifle with ramrod and a 15inch long bayonet. 03.01.2022 HEASLIP ROAD Angle Vale is situated on Section 4140 Hundred of Munno Para. On Sept 2nd 1852 a Land Grant from Lt. Gov. Sir Henry Edward Fox Young was given to land dealer James White and sold to Benjamin Heaslip a few weeks later on Sept 29th. In June 1866 a private survey was carried out resulting in a road being put through Heaslips section the triangle was formed and surveyed into town allotments.
