22.01.2022 23 December 1860 was the day the Burke and Wills exploration party tackled the Stony Desert. Wills was surprised to find it far from bad travelling ground and the camels got along well. They halted in the afternoon to give the camels a chance to rest, and then at sunset, resumed their long, arduous march across the gibbers. Around midnight they halted and camped on the plain. The Burke and Wills Trek crosses the wonderful gibber plains of the Stony Desert - trekkers have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their own thoughts as they walk towards the endless horizons of the gibber. www.burkeandwillstrek.com.au

22.01.2022 On 27 December 1860, the river that the exploration party were following made a sharp turn to the east. Burke called a halt and camped near the bend, their seventy-sixth camp since leaving Melbourne. He needed to head north to the Gulf, but the river was now heading off to the east. However the days were now frightly hot and they needed the water. The success of the expedition depended on Burkes decision should he leave the river and head north, or follow the water to th...e east. The party camped just south of todays town of Birdsville while Burke considered his options. Luckily for those on the Burke and Wills Trek, this location is where we set up Camp 10. You won't have to make any difficult decisions about which way to trek the following day, as you'll be wandering into Birdsville around lunch time. The only tough decision that Trekkers will make in Birdsville, is whether to order a pint of Coopers or XXXX Gold! www.burkeandwillstrek.com.au
21.01.2022 Day 6 finished and all trekkers are back in camp. All trekkers and crew are going well. The weather is mostly clear and mild with a couple of warmer days this week. Tomorrow we head 38km into the vast gibber plains of Sturts Stony Desert.

19.01.2022 Many aboriginal artefacts dating back thousands of years were found along the way of the Trek. Luckily we had traditional owners Josh, Rob and Kathryn along to educate the trekkers about the artefacts and explain what they were used for. www.burkeandwillstrek.com.au

03.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone! On Christmas eve 1860, Burke, Wills, King and Gray, took the day off to rest near what is now known as Christmas Creek. At 4.30am on Christmas morning the four men resumed their relentless march to the Gulf. Their provisions were limited and they could not afford to take any more rest days. Later that afternoon, they became the first European's to see the Diamantina River - and you can only imagine how the explorers spirits rose! We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and are in high spirits as you celebrate with family and friends!
01.01.2022 The Trek follows the original route of Burke and Wills for 330km over 11 days from the Dig Tree to Birdsville. Unlike Burke and Wills though, we are following a map! What are your map reading skills like? Even if they are no good, you won't get lost out here, as you'll be following a course delicately set using little pink flags that are removed after trekkers pass through. www.burkeandwillstrek.com.au
01.01.2022 For those of you who want to experience the outback in a unique way and spend 11 days walking in the footsteps of Burke and Wills you will need to register for the 2016 Trek which sets out from the Dig Tree on 16th August Trek by 5th June. If you are interested and still want to come but are unable to register by 5th June please let us know. Its going to be an epic outback adventure like no other! www. burkeandwillstrek. com.au
