22.01.2022 9 reasons you need a Personal Injury Solicitor 1. PROFESSIONAL AND OBJECTIVE As both physical pain and emotional trauma can be a result of a personal injury, it is always helpful to be able to see things through a Personal Injury Solicitors mind to know what your rights really are.... 2. EXCELLENT NEGOTIATION SKILLS Negotiating compensation can be tricky at the best of times, especially when there are other solicitors and insurers involved. Being legally represented can be advantageous in increasing the amount of compensation you receive. 3. MEDICAL ATTENTION A lot of people don’t realise that depending on the circumstances of their injury, the quicker they get a personal injury solicitor, the quicker they can get the right medical assistance. By instructing a solicitor, they can get in touch with the insurer and request approval for appropriate medical treatment to help you on your road to a speedy recovery. 19.01.2022 The Newcastle Registry of the Family Law Courts oversees a high volume of matters involving significant family violence. The newest project developed to screen and monitor the risk in family law matters is the Lighthouse Project. The Lighthouse Project aims to screen and triage risk, and the pilot is being tested in the Adelaide, Brisbane and Parramatta registries.... According to the court website, the benefits of the project will be as follows: * Better risk screening and early identification of at-risk clients. * Tailored court processes and support to those litigants experiencing family violence. * Easier access to justice a single entry point to the Courts. * Improved outcomes for litigants with more information available to the Court from the first stages. * Improved case management decisions leading to a reduction in the number of adjournments and court events required. * Opportunities to settle early through the use of alternative dispute resolution for suitable matters. 12.01.2022 A parenting order outlines orders made by the court in relation to the parenting arrangements for children. These orders can deal with a range of matters including allocating parental responsibility, living arrangements for the children, sharing time between parties, methods of communication, and anything else in relation to care, welfare or development of the child. What if I’m not the biological parent? The Family Law Act allows for a parent, grandparent or any other perso...n concerned with the care, welfare or development of the child to apply. Therefore, even if you are not the biological parent, you can still apply for parenting orders, as long as you satisfy other eligibility criteria. https://www.burkemeadlawyers.com.au//applying-for-parenti/

12.01.2022 Ten tips to NOT lose your property settlement! 1) Property Valuations Property valuations allow you to make an informed decision when dividing assets. Get a property valuation.... 2) Settle out of Court Although Court gives you ample opportunity to air your dirty laundry it’s quicker and cheaper settling through negotiations, getting your partners dirty clothes out of your house, quicker! 3) Caveats or injunctions? If your property isn’t in joint names your ex-partner can sell it without your consent, to prevent this, consider whether caveats or injunctions are appropriate. 4) No Spending Sprees Although gambling away your ex-partner’s inheritance on the horse ‘Freedom’ might seem like an appropriate way to spend your money, it’s not. 5) Don’t listen to your Uncle Andrew Yes, he’s been divorced four times, but that doesn’t make him a reliable source. Check out the last five on our website. https://www.burkemeadlawyers.com.au//ten-tips-to-not-lose/

08.01.2022 Whilst at Burke Mead Lawyers we focus on Personal Injury and Family Law, it is also important to remember those that have fought so hard for our beautiful country and to live the lives we often take for granted. On behalf of everyone at Burke Mead Lawyers, we would like to extend our gratitude for those who left but never returned, and those who returned but were never the same, to the families who have lost and those who continue to fight for our country and freedom. Our own... staff, Carissa Bidder, shares a story about her Grandmother’s late husband, Noel Shipp. I so greatly admire my Grandmother’s strength to go through such a big loss at such an early age, and to this day, 51 years later, continue to celebrate Noel’s hard work and achievements when possible, including attending graduation ceremonies at HMAS Cerberus in Victoria. They had so much love for each other, that still shows in the way she continues to keep his name alive! Please take the time to read the complete story on our website: https://www.burkemeadlawyers.com.au/a/remembrance-day-2020/ You're also welcome to share your own stories or pay tribute in the comments below.

08.01.2022 Just like their namesake husband and wife Bonnie and Clyde, believed they were too smart for the justice system. Bonnie and Clyde, separated in the early 2000’s. They owned a house in Australia and one in Montana, USA. They did not finalise the divorce and property settlement. In January 2013, Clyde and his business partner ‘Bill’ parted ways. Clyde sued Bill. Bill cross-sued Clyde, and the whole thing was a mess resulting in serious legal costs on both sides.... Clyde lost his court case in December 2013. He was left owing A LOT of money to Bill from the court case.. Now in serious debt and homes at risk, Bonnie and Clyde fast tracked their property settlement (I mean, it was only a decade since they separated?). Papers were lodged in the Family Court within 3 months of the failed court case. Bonnie got the house in Australia and Clyde the one in the USA. The effect of the property settlement with Bonnie meant that Clyde had no assets in Australia to meet the debts he owed to Bill! just a coincidence?! Of course, this didn’t fly. The whole thing was set aside by the Courts. At more expense to Bonnie and Clyde. Don’t go rouge like Bonnie and Clyde, Get proper legal advice.

08.01.2022 Over recent years there has been a large decrease in negligence cases in court. This isn’t because there are less accidents or injuries, it’s because there has been an increase in the certainty around the outcome of cases which means more can now be settled out of court. Cases are being settled outside of court allowing individuals to receive compensation without needing to go through the litigation process. Read more on our website.... https://www.burkemeadlawyers.com.au//sometimes-settlement/

"I just wanted say a big thank you for all your expertise and guidance during the process of my claim. It was so good dealing with a lawyer who responded to my needs in a friendly, timely manner. I always felt you listened and believed me. In the past, it has on occasion been my experience to endure negative judgment when I say the words worker’s compensation.. however, I was always treated with respect by the staff members of Burke Mead Lawyers." 07.01.2022 Refusing service to COVID-19 hotspot residents Is this discrimination? According to the Anti-Discrimination Board NSW, regional venues are not discriminating by banning all Sydney residents from entering their venues. After a number of establishments including the Paxton Hotel, Hotel Jesmond and Wallsend Lemon Grove Hotel closed their doors Sydney Residents in a bid to protect their local customers from the current pandemic, a number of enquiries were received by the Anti-d...iscrimination Board NSW. A statement has been issued confirming that denying entry to someone because of their geographic place of residence is not considered discrimination under the Anti-Discrimination Act 177 (NSW). Whilst this will not be welcome news to our regular Sydney visitors, locals have largely expressed an appreciation for the measures being taken to keep their community safe. What to you think? Will this leave employees vulnerable to discrimination due to residing in a COVID-19 hotspot? Will specialised medical treatment become unavailable to those residing outside of the local area? https://www.burkemeadlawyers.com.au//covid-19-discriminat/

06.01.2022 There are many reasons why the distribution from a family law matter can be delayed and we understand that your financial obligations don’t stop over this period. As such this delay may create financial stress. In situations where this does occur, it may be possible to receive an interim distribution. An interim distribution is an early payment to one party to assist them through (usually urgent) financial pressures, that is taken out of what will be their share of the settle...ment. This can assist you during this period to keep on top of expenses such as helping you pay legal fees. Read more on our latest website post. https://www.burkemeadlawyers.com.au//what-is-an-interim-d/
