20.01.2022 Pet Of The Month Sweet Mushka presented to BRVH with a history of having conjunctivitis with reddish discharge from one eye. Usually when one eye is affected, we start thinking about either trauma or even something has got into the eye, if both eyes are affected then its possibly something infectious. Firstly, a veterinary examination ensured that the cornea and the eye itself wasn't in structural danger. Next having numbed the surface of the eye by applying a local anaesthet...ic we gently grab the third eyelid and make sure nothing is trapped behind it. Having examined the third eyelid it was noted that there was a spot where Mushka was bleeding from. With eye issues we always have to be careful of bacterial infections. In this case the lack of a foreign body and the rest of the exam pointed the suspicion towards a bacteria called Chlamydia Felis. The bacteria can affect some immunocompromised humans but generally people aren't affected. After a course of antibiotics Mushka has been doing great and as you can see her beautiful eyes are back to normal!
