21.01.2022 Today is National Day for older persons. This special day is recognised by raising awareness about matters of the elderly, such as infirmity and also abuse. It's also become a day to cherish the contributions that older people make to our society.... These are pictures of the artwork and poem our children and teachers did for the residents at a home for the elderly. We hope they get as much joy from it all as what we all did from doing it.

We received grant funding from RetireAustralia through their Grant2Grow Program. ... 18.01.2022 What have we been up to this week? I'm glad you asked... We have been doing some STEM activities, as well as recycling/reusing the packaging from the box fort. STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) are a HUGE hit in education right now. Children love finding out how things work through hands-on projects and lots of fun. The teachers are also fond of the fact that they're preparing students for their futures. It's a win-win!... www.burleighheadskindy.com

16.01.2022 Today (27 May) - Is the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum where 90.77% of the population voted to give the Australian Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and recognise them in the census. 3 June 1992 - Is when the Australian High Court delivered the Mabo decision, which recognised that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a special relationship with the land. This paved the way for land rights or Native Title. Today at kindy, it's about them!

Volunteers Jim and Jo from the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation are on their way to pick up Larry/Loretta, who finally made his/her way out of the box to explore the office and keep Ange company. Happy travels little beauty.

05.01.2022 The amazing Billie Musk Indigenous Consultancy has unveiled her work-of-art, added something so special to our kindy. "Jellurgal Bingings Burleigh heads or more commonly known as Jellurgal amongst the local Aboriginal people, is an important cultural, spiritual and meeting place for the local Kombumerri people and surrounding tribes.... The Large blue circle represents Jellurgal in the Mural, the other three green circles represent the rest of our community. Not to dissimilar to pre-contact life, in todays life, we live and sit in separate family groups. However as a community we come together to share in the beautiful Gold Coast and all of the natural resources it offers. The smaller circles around the larger ones, represent family members and travel lines and as one we always come together. The smaller brown campsites and circles represent our movement in between. The Kombumerri people were transient throughout their homelands and moved according to the seasons and food sources, numerous camps were set up in different areas, however given our proximity to the salt water, this is where we lived, loved and shared in all of Jarra (our earthmothers) natural resources for most of the year. I have included Bingings in the mural to represent my totem and our connection to the water and animals who live there. I have used a glow in the dark paint for the larger circles, which will illuminate the space on darker days. This is to remind us we can always find our way home and to be grateful for what our earth mother has provided for us." Thank you Billie, amazing job! www.burleighheadskindy.com

This is the third consecutive year Peter has visited our kindy for this purpose - providing our families with knowledge and resources to help prepare their children for prep and beyond!...
