24.01.2022 During our current issues in Australia and internationally, we have all been able to see the way humankind responds to these anxiety-driven moments. We have probably all seen footage of people responding selfishly, fighting over food and toilet paper in grocery shops. As we know, this isn't the only way we react in times of heightened anxiety and fear. We at Burleigh Church would like to offer up another way. An invitation to instead respond in this time of need with generos...ity and care. A combination of anxiety, fear & financial loss around the current COVID-19 Virus, has meant our small Burleigh community Food Help service, that has been running every Friday from our Op Shop, has seen a massive increase in visitors and people reaching out for food and support in this time of need. Therefore we have become a little overwhelmed by the need in this current season and now shops are placing restrictions on bulk food items, which in turn has put restrictions on individuals who have been purchasing products to stock our community pantry. We have increased our Food Help service and are currently staffing it Monday to Friday, 9am - 2pm. This is where we need your help! We're asking for the community to come together to not just stock their own pantries at this time, but to consider if you are able to donate some food (see list of items below) to the Burleigh Op Shop (Burleigh Church Of Christ) at 174 West Burleigh Rd, Burleigh Heads during the hours 9-2 pm weekdays. WITH YOUR HELP, we will be able to continue to meet the needs of the local southern Gold Coast Community. Cereal, Pasta sauce, toilet paper, soap (cake), cup-a-soup, pasta & sauce pack, biscuits, kids snacks, long-life milk. Canned items: Veggies, Fruit, Fish, Baked beans, Spaghetti. For the freezer: sausages, frozen veges, frozen meals. Thank you in advance for partnering with us in bringing a glimmer of light in dark times to those who are in need. 13.01.2022 For many years, it has been the custom of the Burleigh Op Shop to hold a half price sale on the last Friday of the month. We are actually a very cheap Op Shop, with approx 90 percent of our sales $2 or under! We care about the community and we are always available to lend a listening ear. Since Covid-19 restrictions have been enforced, we have made the decision that we will no longer encourage a crowd to attend the Op Shop on one day of the month. HOWEVER, if you are ever in need of clothing or household items at an even cheaper price than they are already, please talk to one of our staff as wed be more than happy to help you every day of the month.
