17.01.2022 Lower deeming rates are here The fall in deeming rates is a piece of good news. While this may help improve cashflow for some retirees through higher pension payments and lower aged care fees, there may be a delay in seeing the benefit flow through to you. Have a read of the below 'Lower deeming rates are here' article (click on the link) or call me on 0431 414 799 for help.... https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track

16.01.2022 Thinking about how to access aged care support? The www.myagedcare.gov.au/ website is where you can find out about all your aged care options and how they can be accessed. You can find out how to take the first step which is typically obtaining an ACAT assessment. The site has information on the assessment process and a link to apply online. You can search for local in-home care providers that may enable you to stay in your home for longer. ... If you need residential aged care, you can search for approved providers in your area. You can also search by room type (e.g. single room with an ensuite) and specialisations required (e.g. Dementia). A recent addition is the residential care providers compliance rating which can now be found more easily. If you need help working out how to cover the aged care costs (initial and ongoing daily fees), please email [email protected] or call me on 0431 414 799 for a confidential discussion.

11.01.2022 Is aged care getting an unfair media rap? The fear of COVID-19 spread has made many people afraid to move into residential care. But is it a real problem, or just a bad media rap? A recent Government report shows that despite the deaths from COVID-19, in the first seven months of this year, around 1,000 fewer aged care residents passed away than in the same period last year. This is likely due to lower rates of influenza and infection control protocols.... The report also shows that out of the 2,706 residential aged care services in Australia, only 213 had experienced any COVID-19 infections (at 11 September), with 98 of these having only one case. And most have been in Victoria. Overall, the proportion of all aged care residents in Australia who passed away with COVID was 0.32% (this compared to 5.3% in the UK). One of the hardest aspects this year has been the need to isolate and that has restricted family visits. Technology may help to stay in touch, but it doesn’t always replace a hug. Whatever your fears, the most important thing is to keep safe and to ensure our loved ones access the best care, in a suitable environment. There are no guarantees in life, but informed decision-making can help remove some stress. Look at all your options, including residential care. If you or a family member needs care now, or in the near future, give me a call on 0431 414 799 to discuss your options, the processes and the financial implications.

09.01.2022 The key Estate Planning documents are Wills, Powers of Attorney and Guardianships. There are plenty of reasons why many of us put off preparing an Estate Plan. If that's you, then I encourage you to place these documents high up on your 'To Do' list. Planning Ahead Tools is a NSW Government resource for your Estate Planning options. Spend a minute to watch 'Nan's Story', which highlights that being someone's Husband or Wife does not necessarily give you the powers to act th...at you might think. If you do not have these documents prepared when they are required, a court or tribunal may need to appoint someone to make decisions for you. This is often a poor outcome for you and your family. I recommend you make an appointment to see a Solicitor and discuss your Estate Planning needs and objectives.

02.01.2022 This short video from humansofagedcare.com.au highlights some of the amazing people working in residential care homes. I can speak from personal experience. My Mum needed aged care support at the start of the year and you can be sure I had very high expectations for her care. My expectations though were proven to be pretty basic. The facility caring for Mum amazed me on a daily basis. One of many examples is when I saw a nurse talking to a resident and she didn't know I wa...s there...seeing her lean in and give the resident the warmest of hugs was beautiful. You may be concerned about yourself or a loved one moving into aged care. I can only encourage you to take a tour of local aged care homes and ask questions / look around. You may be pleasantly surprised. As always, please call me on 0431 414 799 for a confidential discussion of yours or a loved one's aged care needs. https://youtu.be/gc20QszvWJM
