22.01.2022 We are Back ! Burley Griffin is back in the pool at CGS on Monday 7th of December. 2020 has been like the bung stopwatch below and tested all of us. A big thanks to all of our loyal swimming families that have stuck with us and a big welcome back to those that have been waiting for the return to CGS pool. There will be some official news in an email to members coming out in the next few days, so stay tuned. Cheers Greg White

22.01.2022 Great article BG that I can testify is true.

21.01.2022 While we understand that nothing could replace the chance to compete at the 2020 NSW Junior State Age Championships,... now you can celebrate your achievement in other ways. A Certificate of Recognition and the chance to purchase official event merchandise is now available. Find out more

21.01.2022 Let’s hope Swim League gets up, it’s a great idea. Fun competition without times, just what we all need.

18.01.2022 Here is something to do for Anzac Day

18.01.2022 We are getting closer to a restart, make these next couple of weeks count. You need to be hitting the fitness in the time leading up to our pool opening. Stay tuned and get excited about swimming again.

17.01.2022 A great article on the value of youth sports and the worrying participation trends post pandemic lock-down. Just a snip-it below. Parents appear to really be valuing right now the physical, emotional and social benefits of sport, Dorsch said. Without in-person school in some places, sport becomes a vehicle where kids can still hopefully get these benefits. I also think a lot of parents view healthy competition as an important part of sports, and through competition, you can gain all of these other benefits. I think sometimes we create a false dichotomy over desired outcomes. They’re not mutually exclusive.

17.01.2022 Keep hoping, and keep healthy. We know you are all getting restless but it’s so so important to stay at home a bit more to avoid exponential growth of the virus. There may be some sort of return to swimming in May if we have a dose of luck.

16.01.2022 Seriously hardcore

16.01.2022 Dear members I hope you and your families are well. I know many of our swimmers are super keen to get back into the pool. Many pools are closed due to renovations (forcing swimming clubs to look elsewhere) and Civic Pool is giving preference to YMCA affiliated clubs (which is understandable) so there are no free lanes at Civic during the week before or after school.... Squad training The Committee and Greg White have been busy over the past week or so trying to get our swimmers back into squad swimming. We are in discussion with CGS about starting up again at the school and we will let you know when we have a firm starting date. In the meantime, we have organised the following at CIVIC POOL ON SUNDAY: 2 sessions one from 8.00am - 8.50am and a second session from 9.00am - 9.50am 6 lanes with 4 swimmers per lane per session - that is, 24 swimmers per session Seniors (BRONZE, SILVER and GOLD) at the first session 8:00 - 8:50am Juniors (PENGUIN, DOLPHIN AND ORCA) at the second session 9:00 - 9:50am Swimmers are asked to email the Head Coach to reserve a position at one of the sessions on a first come first served basis Greg's email: [email protected] You are requested to be at the front door of Civic pool 10 minutes before to pay the $5.30 entry fee by card (Tap and Go), the club is paying the lane hire and coaches. A Pool Staff member will take swimmers through to the pool with bags to be left on the bleachers. Equipment maybe left at the end of the pool but not the wet bag At this time the change rooms are closed and there is only one toilet open. There is unpaid Sunday parking in the carpark across from the civic carpark next to the units. To avoid any confusion, you will receive a response from Greg regarding availability of a place and I will followup with a CONFIRMATION of your session time via email before Sunday.

16.01.2022 Some jumping mid set with a beautiful sunrise this morning. Note the mist on the water.

16.01.2022 Graveyard kick to finish this morning’s set. We have a surprise set before the Xmas set on Thursday so make sure to be here.

16.01.2022 This means we are one step closer to squads swimming. Stay tuned and keep your 30 to 40 minutes of training a day going. (Or start now)

15.01.2022 Great opportunity to tune into swimming discussions on this webinar. You must preregister to join to get the login email. Make time for this they are the presenters from the coaches group I belong to, so it is along the same philosophy as our BG program. Missing you all swimming Greg

13.01.2022 Let’s get behind this BG

12.01.2022 Sunday the 2nd is our last day at Civic, as the summer pools open. We have a new training schedule starting next week at the Manuka Pool with more sessions and lanes for the club, and lots of new swimmer tryouts booked in. Manuka has never looked better, has free parking and is in walking distance from schools. Let’s get back into swimming BG!

11.01.2022 Well done to all swimmers who participated and improved this season!

11.01.2022 The civic dive pool is a great way to finish swim sets. News from CGS about a return has been delayed until the end of the year 12 exams in 2 weeks. We are however negotiating going to Manuka Pool.

11.01.2022 Very Little is needed to make a happy life; it’s all within yourself, in your way of thinking. ~ Marcus Aurelius One of the key insights in the Stoic philosophy is that our focus should be on the parts of ourselves and our lives that we are in control of. That is - our thoughts, our feelings, our emotions, our opinions and our actions. Everything else that is external to our control should be paid little attention to. As Marcus Aurelius wrote in his Meditations, You hav...e the power over your mind - not outside events. Realise this, and you will find strength. Flowing on from that insight is the wisdom that the quality of our thoughts determine the state of our happiness. Just as our thoughts form our words, our words form our actions, our actions form our habits and our habits form our character. It’s your character that determines your quality of life. Your happiness is up to you. So grab it by the short and curlies and swing it around your head and scream out YES! I am the master of my own destiny! Be true. Be you. Be Stoic.

10.01.2022 Watch the turn BG

10.01.2022 Who said things were better in the older days

05.01.2022 I hope you all could get on to the last webinar, I had to log off and on again to get it to un freeze. There were over 500 swimmers logged on so not a bad effort for the system. Earlier heads up to register and put in in your calendar. Cheers Greg

05.01.2022 A big short course Hart Rate set for our first morning outside. The upside is the swimmers got to dive at the end. Stay tuned for a decision on a return to our pool.

01.01.2022 Swimming Australia has confirmed the event dates for its national competition schedule leading into the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics next year, with the domestic calendar set to play a vital role in the athletes’ preparation.
