25.01.2022 Coffee’s up at Burnetts! We are as proud as new parents to have teamed up with Morgan Lewis and his gorgeous cappuccino-coloured 1965 Kombi coffee van, ‘The Spl...it Screen Coffee Company’ to bring you coffee and cake in the newly renovated section of the nursery here at Burnetts On Barney. Morgan is brewing Little Earth Cafe Columbia coffee and also has his to-dream-for brownies, plus the moreish Becky’s Anzacs. For the time being coffee will be on Friday and Saturday and if you love it enough we’ll be able to offer it more. Come in today while the weather is gorgeous and welcome Morgan and ‘The Split Screen Coffee Company’ at Burnetts. @ Burnetts On Barney See more

19.01.2022 Burnetts On Barney was so very proud and humbled last night to be awarded the IMB Illawarra Business Awards 2020 Excellence in Sustainability Award. The award r...ecognised several key initiatives which promoted sustainability as well as regeneration by directly putting back into our environment and community. One was the re-energizing of Kiama Crop and Swap which meets on the second Saturday of each month at Burnetts now brings more than 50 like-minded garden and food lovers together. Secondly, our ‘ Local Regrow’ campaign following the bushfires focused on encouraging gardeners to plant native fauna food and habitat while supporting south coast wholesale nurseries in fire-affected communities and putting back into Landcare and Wires programs. Finally, our clean-up and upcycled conversion of the unsightly yard at our front gate into a beautiful nursery space housing a coffee van and funky container gardenware area has been a Covid project that was designed to give our supportive community space to gather safely outside. Inspiration to give back to the environment has come from Andrew Burnett’s appreciation of nature and commitment to waste reduction and careful use of land and resources. Inspiration to create a space where our community can gather and share their joy of gardening and connect with like-minded people came from my father David Hampshire’s love of bringing people together and making them happy. Inspiration to do all this in a year of drought and fire and Covid came from the dedication, invigoration and perspiration of the Burnetts team who have brought life to vision and supported each other on our journey to survive and thrive as a business while making a lasting, positive contribution to the vibrant community we live in and the local people who nurture and support us. Each one of them has earned this award. Inspiration to do all this in Kiama came from years of encouragement and support we have received from customers, clients, suppliers, friends and members of our community. Thank you all. To celebrate we’d love you to come and share the excitement with us. Today the coffee at Burnetts is on us! @ Burnetts On Barney See more

14.01.2022 A year ago today. What a year. Now let’s see what 2021 has in store...

13.01.2022 If we’re going to do Kombi coffee at Burnetts every Friday and Saturday, we’re going to do it right. When you have a coffee at Burnetts the recycling of biodegr...adable cups will be a little bit different. Finish your coffee, fill your cup with vegie mix soil, pop a stringless bean seed on top and we’ll grow that little baby up to produce beans to be donated to Kiama Crop and Swap. The cup will become soil, the seed will become food. Not a single foodmile. Reuse, recycle, grow your coffee cup. Morgan from The Split Screen Coffee Company and the Burnetts Team are excited about growing this concept together and hope you’ll enjoy getting into it with us. Oh, and did we mention there are empinadas here today as well as brownies and Anzac bikkies. It’s all good. @ Burnetts On Barney See more

13.01.2022 Gosh that month went quickly. Kiama Crop and Swap is on again today at Burnetts - remember, second Saturday of every month - and there’s plenty coming in...eggs... (spare cartons appreciated), lemons, flowers. Don’t bother getting a coffee before you come because we now have coffee at Burnetts every Friday and Saturday with Morgan and his beautiful Kombi from The Split Screen Coffee Company and it’s good, really good. If you like coffee from Little Earth Cafe and if you like brownies, empanadas and other yum stuff you’re going to love this. See you at 9.30am or before and stay all day if you like. Remember, it’s for anyone with homegrown or made to swap. No costs, no membership, just lots of cool people and local foods. It goes without saying, if you’re not feeling well, stay home and garden instead. See more

06.01.2022 We love a long weekend but it really messes with the next week, making every day feel like yesterday. Kiama Crop and Swap is now only two days away! This Saturd...ay, 10 October from 9.30am at Burnetts. If you love eggs, don’t miss this one. Guaranteed you’ll take home at least half a dozen. Last one it was soooo good to start again after Covid and this one will be just as fun. Don’t worry about bringing your own coffee. Morgan will be there with his cutie coffee Kombi and ‘The Split Screen Coffee Company’ serving beans from Little Earth Cafe. His brownies are amazing. Oh, and you must check out what we’ve done with that crappy yard out the front of our nursery....there’s lots of reasons to make sure you don’t miss this month’s Crop and Swap, either as a returnee or a newie. 02.01.2022 Im stoked to be a Chief Counter for BirdLife Australia and you can be a counter too. The Aussie Backyard Bird Count 2020 is just around the corner. Its the best... way any of us can get involved with some citizen science and help add valuable data nationwide about our amazing birds and their distribution. The whole family can be involved and all it takes is 20 mins sometime between the 19th -25th October. You can join me by registering here ; https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/?Costa You can do your count in your backyard, at the local park, at nan and pops place, wherever you like. If you dont have the app you can always fill out the forms on the website but the main ingredient you need is 20 minutes to sit or stand and observe what birds are around that location. There is a live launch of the event of Monday 19th and Ill let you now about that on the day. Heres links to the Birdlife Australia Website and Aussie Backyard BirdCount Website, also the Facebook Instagram and Twitter pages for all the info you need to know and lots of great facts. Ill be doing a few counts over the week and will go live on one of them and we can talk about our bird counting experiences. Let the family know, the grand kids, nieces, nephews, neighbours and have some fun supporting our birdlife and recording our biodiversity. After the year that has been this data is even more valuable to see just how our birdlife has faired given the bushfires and ongoing drought. 01.01.2022 Can you smell that? It’s the citrus scent of Lemon Myrtle, or Backhousia citriodora that’s been cut this morning ready for swapping at Kiama Crop and Swap. Ther...e’s plenty for everyone. One of the best-known Aboriginal bush tucker and medicinal plants, it is a beaut foliage that is great for flavouring food, infusing into oils, tarting up shortbread or cheese balls and makes a ripper gin infusion. What will you be bringing at 9.30am this morning to Burnetts to swap for some lemon myrtle? Everyone is welcome and don’t forget, the Kombi coffee will be here. If you haven’t checked out our new converted container gardenware spot you’d better check that out too. Of course, you’re not well, please stay home and garden and we’ll see catch up another day.
