15.01.2022 The North-West Coast has the ability to punch above its weight in state tennis in the eyes of Tennis Tasmania national development squad coach Raphael Durek. Tasmania best junior players made their way to Burnie this week for the Tassie Showdown event, which coincided with the North-West Tennis development camp at the same venue which Durek was attending. Durek said he was impressed with what he saw and was looking forward to trying to assist the development of North-West pla...yers. "It was one of the first times I have been able to see all the North-West players together, they have got a great base and I respect the work that Chris Chandler and other coaches have done," he said. "Given geography, the statistics logically mean there is less people to find talent from, but it doesn't mean that we can't get more players into the game and competing at higher level. "It is about trying to find the great kids we have got in the state more competition to increase the talent pool. "Also because of the consistent coaching they are getting, it is about giving them small tips about how they can improve their game when we get them together." There were a number of Burnie Tennis Club players in the Tassie Showdown events who came away with trophies including, Balin Russell, Lily Marshall, Paige Jacobson, Annabelle Radcliff, Ethan Clemons and of course Isaac Wagner.

13.01.2022 Thanks to all those that took part in the NWTL v TN challenge shield yesterday, it was a mighty effort to make the trip to Launceston for the day, it is really ...appreciated. We had around 80 people, playing at 2 venues, in what is a really positive outcome for tennis. Unfortunately we couldn’t win on the day, however we did win 2 out of the 5 divisions (A Grade2 and 50+) well done. Hopefully it can all happen again next year. Really big thank you to our sponsor Terrylands Service Station, we wouldn’t have looked so professional without you. Sam Gleeson, who does a power of work behind the scenes and makes things happen, without any fuss or fanfare. Clayton and Gray from the NWTL committee and Elliott Johnstone and Ben Cawston who helped out with promoting the event. Finally Tennis North and Craig Boyce for their commitment and organisation. Cheers, Shaun See more
