25.01.2022 Light winds & a good swell made for a great opportunity to train on the new rescue ladder & slide. Thanks Rob for help in setting it up & providing on-water instruction. Thanks to our willing volunteers who jumped in after we'd all had a practice on Oscar.
24.01.2022 Great racing yesterday in very welcome light winds. Well done to all.
24.01.2022 Beautiful Autumn day out on the water
23.01.2022 Great day for a Come & Try. Several novice sailors enjoyed the day on the water along with a nice fleet of Sabres & Lasers
23.01.2022 A big thank you to everyone who joined our online test regatta this morning. We had a total of 7 participants from three different clubs and are looking forward... to more joining us next Saturday at 10am for our first 4 race series. Comment on this post if you would like to join in the fun. Here is some footage from one of Burnie Yacht clubs races this morning. See more
23.01.2022 Its the penultimate week of official sailing this season. Are you going to be there? As always - new members more than welcome! You dont even have to know the difference between a sheet and a tiller!

18.01.2022 Hi All, Forecast is not looking favourable this morning and Ive had several confirmed non starters, so well give sailing a miss today & make a start on the Christmas shopping. Cheers, Russell.
18.01.2022 Hi All, Please note the times on this notice. Ok to get in on Sunday morning but will be a delay getting out.
17.01.2022 It was a deceptively calm day on Sunday, but that didnt get in the way of 5 good looking boats taking to the water to test their mettle ahead of the Cock of the West this coming long-weekend. There will no be racing at Burnie this week as most of our star sailors will be trekking down to Strahan to show the West Coast what we are made of. If you are feeling like a longish weekend drive, make your way down and give us your best cheers from the shore!
16.01.2022 It was a great weekend last weekend down at Strahan. Great work all of those from the club who trekked down on their long weekend. Congrats to Sue from bringing home overall THIRD PLACE, battling some intense weather on day two in a Laser. On a day that can only be described as intimidating, Sue changed over to a 4.7 sail and dominated not just the fleet but the changing winds over a 60 minute race. It wasnt just Sue who put on a show, congrats goes to skipper Teresa (LYC)... and crew-member Faith (BYC) who took out the Apprentice Shield. This is the first win for this team who tried their hand at racing in a Fever instead of their usual Pacer. Race one saw these two dominate with a great start and bringing it home in the middle leg. Thanks to LYC for letting them bring the Fever down. Day one of the weekend started with a pleasant wind the sun poking out to shine down on the fleet. There was so much fun to be had on the water that the resident seal popped his head in for a few hours. Even the local paddies wandered down to the water front to watch the first race. The only crime that day? We couldnt stay out there longer. The next day the winds picked up to a point that several members of the fleet decided to sit it out. Those brave enough took to the water for a race that lasted 60 mins and did not relent for even a moment. Unfortunately the Pacer withdrew after an unfortunate capsize, but the rest managed to pull of an impressive effort. Special mention must go to Deb, Dave and Russel for putting in a stellar effort for BYC. Also, a very big thanks to Des at the MHYC and LYC for arranging the event. Much fun was had by all.

12.01.2022 Whos going to come sailing this Sunday? Burnie yacht Club caters to all levels of sailing experience. Even if youve never hit the water, we can show how much fun it is. We have limited boats available, so let us know if you want to be a part of the action on Sunday. ... This is the last club day before the Round Hill Classic on the 24th.
12.01.2022 Round Hill Classic 2019 was a ripper of a day. We started out a bit worried about the conditions, but once on the water things really picked up. Not too lumpy and with a challenging breeze it made for a cracking race. Thanks to Wynyard Yacht Club and Leven Yacht Club for representing your colours well. Special shout out to Wynyard though for taking home the overall Round Hill Classic Club Shield for the year. In overall first place, also representing Wynyard, was Chris in h...is 303. Second was Burnies very own Dave in a Laser who was able to get some time on the water this week. In Third we Mr. Darby himself from Wynyard (again) in the only trailer sailer to make an appearance. Well done must also be said to Teressa and Faith who took home the Apprentice Cup for the second time in a row. They were sailing a great boat for beginners, the Pacer (*hint hint* to anyone thinking they would like to come and try this weekend). Club sailing is going ahead as usual this weekend. So if youre keen for a sail, or want to give it a go, come down to the yacht club (opp Bunnings) at 9am on Sunday. It will be a blustery day so bring a warm change of clothes for afterwards.

06.01.2022 Its the event to end all the events - almost literally. The last inter club classic is taking place this weekend at Wynyard Yacht Club. Its your last chance to get your name on a trophy until the 2019/2020 season. See you there!
04.01.2022 No formal sailing at BYC this Sunday as we are off to support the Cock o' the East at St Helens this weekend. Enjoy the long weekend!
04.01.2022 Due to the weather forecast tomorrow we will postpone the Round Hill Classic until later in the season. However, we will look at a late morning BYC race tomorrow for any local sailors that are keen. Be at the club at 10 with the aim of starting the race on the water by 11.30 to potentially beat the worst of the weather.
01.01.2022 Sailing at Mersey today. Cock of the Mersey briefing 12.30. Race start 13.40hrs. Tomorrow there will be no formal racing as such at Burnie. Rescue boats will be out on the water with training on the new retrieval/rescue ladder.
