14.01.2022 What do you do when you can’t go to the Police station for a visit? Bring the Police to you. Emily & Adam explained about all different aspects of what police do & the Scouts experienced breath tests, dusting for for & retrieving fingerprints, DNA collection, how to deploy road spikes & found out about all the equipment that police carry in their vests. Some Videos in comments.

13.01.2022 Very Powerful Message

13.01.2022 How awesome are Scouts?? These seven Scouts from Burnie(3), Somerset(2) & Wynyard(2) Troops headed into the Lees Paddocks area over the long weekend & even with the weather forecast of strong winds & the possibility of 30-85mm of rain over the three days, they were all still excited to do the hike. (They were followed, an hour behind, by two awesome adults Sue & Josh, plus Richard the leader from Burnie). Lees Paddocks is privately owned properties nestled between Cradle Mt/...Lake St Clair & Walls of Jerusalem National Parks. Day 1. The track in was a bit muddy & slowed the pace, taking the Scouts 4 hours to get to Lee’s Hut so they decided not to push on to their destination of Wadley’s Hut. Camp was made & billy was boiled as the following adults arrived. Day 2. Scouts left there tents setup at Lee’s Hut & walked to Reg Wadley Memorial Hut, then back past Lees Hut & followed Lees Track towards Lake Ayr for about 2 hours, then turned around & back to camp. About 5pm it started to rain & continued until 8am. Day 3. With the rain throughout the night, Scouts woke to very wet conditions had breakfast, packed up & headed back to the cars. They had been gone five minutes when a radio call was made back to the adults that they couldn’t get to the bridge over Wurragarra Creek as the overnight rain caused it to break its banks & form a second creek. Adult inspection, a bit of help given to get across the fast flowing water, they were on their way again. Rain continued throughout the day & made for harder & heavy going through some of the muddier areas of the track & created more creek crossings, plus more boggy sections. Adults caught the Scouts as they were looking at Oxley Falls we passed them & arrived at the cars half an hour before the Scouts. When the Scouts arrived they could then change into their dry clothes that they left in the cars. It took the Scouts just under 6 hours to walk out & they were all still smiling when they got to the cars. The Adults had a great time too. We would like to thank Grant Evans(Lees Hut) & Judy Kilby(Reg Wadley Hut) for giving us permission to camp on & walk on their properties.

10.01.2022 Last night our Scouts said farewell to one of our Scouts as he linked to the Venturer Unit. We were joined by Somerset & Wynyard Scouts, Hellyer Venturers & Leven Rovers. To start the night they were divided into teams for a CBD treasure hunt (which according to one of the Scouts, is what we do every time we’re in the CBD. Guess who’s organising the next event ). Good luck & have fun in Venturers & thanks to everyone for coming along, it was a great night.

09.01.2022 Cycling is becoming a big part of Scouting & last night one our PLs, with a bit of help from our ASL, put the Scouts through part of the Scout Cycling program. They learnt road rules & safe riding, bike maintenance & preparedness, as well as how to ride in a bunch. Well done.

05.01.2022 On the weekend these boys attended a camp and completed the Cub Leadership Course. Congratulations to Henry,Eli,Sebastien, Jacob,Caleb, Harrison and Mark(Absent) for an excellent Job.

02.01.2022 Burnie Scouts enjoyed a weekend at The Scout Hut, Cradle Mt. With 3 party members of the group on their first trip, 1 on their last as a Scout & a TASL(Trainee Assistant Scout Leader) doing his first trip as a Leader, after 4 trips with me when he was a Scout(yes it does make me feel old). Friday night walk in was cool, but not to cold & only saw minimal stops. Saturday we woke to strong winds, low cloud & some rain. Scouts decided to try & get to Marigold Valley to play in... whatever snow was there. There was many laughs had on the way, as falling over & legs disappearing in the snow kept spirts up, even if we couldn’t see very far. After an hour or more of sliding, sledding & throwing snowballs, thankfully not at the older Scout Leader or Mums, we turned the wet Scouts back to the hut to dry out & warm up. One Scout’s leg fell off on the way back (see pictures) to the hut, but some great first aid skills from our TASL, soon had him back & walking. Board & card games or a sleep, filled in the afternoon. Daily cleaning, Tea, more games, then off to bed. Sunday, lovely sunrise, led us to believe that the severe weather warning wouldn’t eventuate, but it turned up just in time for our departure. By the time we’d got to the Ronnie Creek bridge the sun was out & some wombats too. BBQ lunch, then checked out the new Visitor Centre before heading home. Thanks very much to the two Mum’s that came with us, without you these types of activities can’t happen. I think they had more fun than the Scouts. See more
