08.01.2022 AUDITION NOTICE: Albert Camus’ CALIGULA We are thrilled to be returning to Rome with Melbourne’s professional premiere of Albert Camus’ CALIGULA, as part of Theatre Works Mainstage Season. We are casting a number of roles and want as many of you to come join in the madness as possible. We encourage everyone to apply, regardless of age, ability, sexual orientation, race or religion. We will be auditioning the following roles:... CALIGULA (25-30, Male or Female, to be played as male). The Emperor of Rome. Driven mad with grief after his sister dies, Caligula commits himself to a ruthlessly logical philosophy that will bring Rome to his knees. While he’s at it, he’ll be dressing up as the Goddess of Love and singing for the people. CASSIUS (40+, Male or Female) A Senator of Rome. Tyrannised by Caligula’s rule, Cassius involves himself in a plot to murder the crazed Emperor. MUCIUS (40+, Male or Female) A Senator of Rome. Also involved in a conspiracy to kill Caligula. Mucius is personally driven in his revenge from an event in which Caligula tore his family apart. LEPIDUS (30+, Male or Female) A Senator of Rome. Caligula’s best friend from childhood, but you wouldn’t know it now. Also decided to conspire to kill Caligula. HELICON (18-35, Male or Female) Caligula’s personal bodyguard, who is slavishly fascinated by the man he protects. We are also interested in any female actresses or musicians who can play cello, to help play a live score. This is an excellent opportunity to be a part of a fantastic ensemble of 12 actors. If you’re interested in working in large groups on intense, relevant classics that never get performed then this is the show for you! Auditions will be held at Theatre Works, 14 Acland St, St. Kilda. Each audition will be twenty minutes in length. Please prepare a two-minute naturalistic monologue of your choice. Auditions will take place on Friday 13th of March from 2.30pm to 5.30pm and Sunday 15th of March from 1.40pm 6.00pm. If you are interested in auditioning please email [email protected] with three available times, as well as an attachment of your C.V and headshot. Please note that this is a profit-share production, with all profits being split equally between cast and crew. Please feel free to share this with anyone you might think interested and you can email our Director and Co-Producer Rob with any questions at [email protected]. Performances are from July 12th July 23rd , with rehearsals beginning on May 10th. We have been wanting to do this play for years it’s going to a crazy, campy, blood-soaked tragedy that’s also full of singing, glitter and drag. We hope you can join us on our journey! #BurningHouseTheatre #BurningHouseMelb #Theatreworks
