21.01.2022 I was privileged to be playing with Jason in the first group on Saturday to actually see Jason's shot on the 7th land on the green rolling down toward the pin. We were all saying that'll be close as it hung on the lip for a few seconds before dropping in the hole, followed by much yelling and excitement from all of us watching from the Tee box. This was Jason's first ever Hole in One and the smile on his face says it all. Proudly marking the Nearest the pin board for every group following us to see that they had no hope of beating his nearest the pin. Well done Jason, it was the highlight of my round just watching you achieve your first Ace. Greg Taylor
21.01.2022 This week we say good bye to one of a our Kiwi members Jarod Williden who is moving back to the land of the long white cloud. Jarod has been a member of the club for 4 years contributing to two winning Handicap pennant teams as both a player and joint team manager. Jarod takes back to New Zealand with him 4 Monthly Medals to go with his 2 Pennant Medals. We will all miss Jarod's friendly banter around the club. Wishing Jarod and Flick all the best with the move and their new ...home back in Dunedin. I am sure we will see them again soon. And who who knows we might take Jarod up on the offer to host Burnley Golf Club for a golfing away trip to Kiwi land. We'll miss you Bro. Enjoy your "Jandels", "Chilli Bins" and "Trundlers". Oh and yes we all know about the All Blacks vs the Wallabies this year. Just wait till next year :) Take care and best wishes Bro. See more

14.01.2022 25-10-2020 Media Release: A group of anti-golfers has posted a Facebook event inviting people to a barbecue lunch/protest at the Northcote Public Golf Course on... Sunday November 1 in a bid to disrupt golfers, local people who have paid green fees to play a game of golf at Northcote Public Golf Course. Part of the statement on the Facebook event says, Golf will likely be scheduled on the day so we may sadly interrupt the plans of a few golfers. Golf has returned to Northcote Public Golf Course as of this past Wednesday 21st October 2020. We members of the community group, #WePlayGolfAtNorthcote ask this group to cancel the event. Apart from creating conflict, the gathering will be illegal under current restrictions. #WePlayGolfAtNorthcote representing a diverse group of people who play golf at Northcote Public Golf Course, understood that there was a need for green space during the Victoria Government’s Stage 4 Covid 19 restrictions. No golfers staged any protest whilst the course was available to the public and golf could not be played there due to the restrictions. We followed the rules during lockdown and are very keen to be back playing now that we can. If a group conducts a protest and disrupts ordinary people playing golf on a public course, this is taking your cause to the wrong audience. Contest your ideas in a properly organised public discussion that we propose should commence one year from this week’s reopening on 21/10/2021. We ask the community and groups, like the one that has posted this Facebook event, to show restraint and consider that it would be unfair to disrupt members of the community who have waited many weeks for golf to return. Our group has formed to respectfully defend our belief that golf courses work best when they are used as a space for golf during daylight hours, seven days a week. This is especially important because Northcote Public Golf Course is a PUBLIC course and a nine-hole course because it provides great access to members of the community at stages of ability and it provides affordable golf to those who could never afford to play on a Private Golf Course. Many people who play golf at Northcote Public Golf Course, affectionately call it ‘Royal Northcote’ this is course is very different to another one that is actually called Royal Melbourne. We believe that the considerable park space surrounding Northcote Public Golf Course in Darebin and Moreland will meet the needs of the community who wish to gather, when restrictions ease further in the weeks to come. Soon we will be able to visit friends and families in our homes, meet others in the great cafes and bars of the inner north. #WePlayGolfAtNorthcote have informed Victoria Police of the intended protest.

13.01.2022 Thin end of the wedge (pardon the pun!) if this course gets closed.

So now our thoughts turn to New Years celebrations with New Years eve on Thursday, I hope you have your Champagne on Ice and New Years plans locked in. With all the dramas of 2020, this year it feels less like a celebration of the year that was and on New Year's Eve, I for one will be saying OMG, I'm ...glad that's over, lets put 2020 in the bin and welcome in 2021 with positive thoughts of hope and promise of a better year. For those not going away, we will run usual comps Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Saturday mornings, so if your around, hope to see you at the course.
