24.01.2022 The room after all the boards have gone back . Needed to use a lot of second hand boards in place of the concrete and patched
21.01.2022 Converting a solid panelled door into a half glass door . Kept all the old beading to keep it looking 'old'. Picture shows one done , one as before .
19.01.2022 this is the room before the timber floor went in and the window was stripped
19.01.2022 External sheeting done (blue board ) and linings up now to render it .
19.01.2022 A night time shot of the new pitched roof verandah . It now has a timber deck under it .
18.01.2022 A small shade cloth covered pergola over the timber walk way. This faces west so should help with the afternoon sun. All external timber is treated pine and painted for maximum durability . The walkway is Merbau on treated pine subfloor.
17.01.2022 Clients are polishing the floor in their restaurant that had nice jarrah floors , except where an arch was knocked out years ago . So now some framing and jarrah boards needed :)
16.01.2022 The start of the store room . Cut out a strip in the pavers and poured a small concrete plinth to support the wall frame . Built the frame using treated timber and lined the inside with plasterboard. Cladding later The blue board is on and the joints flushed
16.01.2022 Just finished the bench chairs at a restaurant down south the other side will wait till Monday
16.01.2022 Tip of the week :) If you have a leaking tiled roof DONT silicon up between the upper and lower tiles ( pic 1) this actually dams the water up till it spills over the end of the tile into the roof . Tiles are designed with grooves down the sides ( pic 3) so that the water runs down and out . Also just because water is coming in at a location doesn't mean the leak is there. . It hits the sarking ( blue sheet in pic) and can run for metres. If in doubt call an expert .... Cheers david See more
15.01.2022 Another Happy customer! Decking is done in Malaysian merbau timber
15.01.2022 Wasleys post office 2017
14.01.2022 Constructed shelves and a small work bench from pine and particleboard, just simple and strong . LED down lights are very effective and as they are flush mount wont get damaged or be in the way .
14.01.2022 It's now all rendered had the mouldings done and painted . Looks like it was always built this way .
13.01.2022 This area was enclosed to keep rain off the car :).
12.01.2022 Almost there. Will do the door and paint the frames on Monday. Then all done :)
12.01.2022 Some before and after photos of a carport and verandah reconfiguration . The mesh trellis was removed from the verandah , cut down and reused along the carport after turning it up the right way . More fall was added to the verandah so it didn't leak and white poly carb installed above the new fence .
12.01.2022 Starting the roof replacement on the wasleys post office . It was burnt out during the pinery fire .
11.01.2022 A recent restoration done at an old farm house. The room is off the kitchen and was a wash house with a low flat ceiling all painted finish. Above the ceiling was a disused 6000 litre water tank to supply water to the house. The ceiling and tank were removed then the beams oiled and stone work sealed, the window was rebuilt and striped of paint . Power was run through polished copper pipes and a false roof put it to hide cables and insulate it . The old concrete floor was battened out and Baltic pine floor boards laid over the top . The cupboards were by PKC at tanunda.
10.01.2022 The old fire place has been bricked up for a gas heater and then boarded up. You can just make out the arch near the top. Removed all the extra bricks and rebuilt the plynth and sides so it looks like the below photo
10.01.2022 All finished. ! With a bigger bath and frameless shower screen . Unfortunately The heat lamps give the tiles an unusual colour in the photos.
09.01.2022 Removing an old shade cloth and rotted timber pergola prior to building a new verandah Updates to follow
08.01.2022 A client discovered they had a cellar under their lounge room but previous owners had covered over the stairs with concrete:) So we cut a hole in the timber floor and found it full of rubbish, no problem just dug it all out . Currently building the new stairs and repairing the floor. The old window was rebuilt . Below is the start of the old stairs we unearthed.
06.01.2022 Found a way to keep cool, dig down under the house footing and sit in it We are actually under setting the footing as its only 100mm deep. In this 100yo house
05.01.2022 A simple job this morning. Just replaced an old weathered door with a new sliced pacific maple door. Getting this place ready for the clients to sell . Have also replaced vanities , relayed pavers and repaired roof leaks .
04.01.2022 The iron and tarps are off the remaining roof that was burnt out. The new section is behind .
03.01.2022 The roof space of a burnt out house and shop that we will soon be replacing . Will use all new pine trusses and match the pitch and outside timbers so it will be all new but look 'old'
03.01.2022 The timber deck just after washing it down . Need to leave it for about 6 weeks before oiling to allow all the natural tannins to weather out.
03.01.2022 Done but not yet painted properly .
02.01.2022 A different job from normal construction . Locating a Leaking pipe under a concrete slab and then repairing it . The hole is about 800 mm deep . All fixed now .
02.01.2022 Rebuilding the front portico / verandah to a house , will be sheeted and rendered next .
02.01.2022 Here is a short film about how houses were built in past without the use of cordless tools and power tools even . Most of the methods used are still pretty much the same just less manual handling. Enjoy
01.01.2022 This photo shows how shallow the footing is. Modern buildings have footings that are narrow and deep, the opposite of this .
01.01.2022 At a restaurant covering over the not so feature purple wall with wafer board cut into smaller sheets then some stained to give a different effect. Will post a photo when complete. The previous post shows the wall before we started. .
