Tending to the on-site winery and vineyard, vegetable gardens and farm animals is a lot of work, but it’s a labour of love. 16.01.2022 There is always something special about a drone photo. Thanks @russellordphoto Capturing all the vegetable garden planning and work in one photo. The 1000 m2 of lines is Jema’s @jemamccabe market garden. On the RHS is our kitchen garden. This provides vegetables for our family to eat plus we let guests pick too. There are a couple of bigger areas that we have neglected and are now covered in growth (piglets now in there). ... When the piglets clear these beds we’ll plant to summer crops like tomatoes, zucchini and corn. The caper beds are on the far right. These raised beds help save our backs. 15.01.2022 Avocado orchard from above. Being certified biodynamic makes us have to think of different ways of doing things. Like the fox proof fencing for our flock of lawn mowing geese. Recently in winter some trees had excess moisture at their roots and the Phytophthora fungus took hold of some trees. The solution was building up raised beds with tree branches that are no good for burning. They were then filled with chicken manure rich compost and mulch. Good soil microbiology fig...hts off Phytophthora. Some trees were renewed by a hard pruning and others cut down and new ones planted. If you look carefully you can see the new beds on the far left. The new trees are thriving. . . . . . 13.01.2022 Closing our gate during COVID allowed us time to reflect, spend more time together and renew every part of our farm and business. We decided we needed to update our website. 13.01.2022 Capparis spinosa or caper. Native to most Mediterranean countries. Best known for its edible flower buds, capers. They have to be salted or pickled to become edible. We have 50 plants and produce high quality capers for chefs and regular customers. Once you have tried our capers you can’t go back to supermarket ones. Our bushes are now quite old and have large root systems. Each winter the perennial plant looses its fleshy leaves and we prune it back. 02.01.2022 Thanks for lovely review - Limestone Bungalow with Outdoor Stone Bath 'Lara and Jamie have put great thought into their luxury chalets. We arrived late in the evening to a warm greeting from Lara who directed us out to our chalet. We came to find a fire already started for us, a thoughtful note and fresh eggs in the kitchen. The chalets have been designed and positioned with privacy of the guests in mind, with a secluded outdoor bath/shower and a relaxing, covered outdoor area. The chalet itself is very generously fitted out. Our chalet had an extra bedroom and would be very well suited for a family to visit. The effort to reduce the environmental impact of the chalets is clear, with solar hot water, kitchen compost and shampoo bar in the bathroom.' Book direct burnsideorganicfarm.com.au
