19.01.2022 It has been a week of exploring nature and acknowledging the traditional owners of country. The students have been able to gain understanding of the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities as our our First Nation people understand it. NAIDOC week provided the opportunity to pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and Elders both past and present. Children from Room 28 participating in Nature Play this week.
14.01.2022 Our talented Year 7 students have researched a Parisian landmark and drawn their own version. Other classes will see them on display in the Resource Centre.
11.01.2022 The P&F pizza night was a huge success, we would like to extend our gratitude to all the families who came along on the night. Thank you to Feathers Pavilion a local business who provided the opportunity and facilitate donations towards our Kaurna garden, amount raised will be in next week's newsletter. It was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the importance of NAIDOC week in our community. Rob Jurd - P&F President
09.01.2022 To celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout NAIDOC week, room 33 have undertaken numerous activities. Our literacy lessons have included counting to five in Kaurna language along with the names of Australian animals. We read 'Finding our heart' and learnt about the 'Uluru Statement.' We reflected on the song ' Took the children away' by Archie Roach. Connecting with 'community' we created a mural together. As a community it took one hour and twenty minutes to complete, alone it would take one person 48 hours. We learnt that we can do far more when we work together. We gained greater understanding of our First Nation People when we wrote biographies about their achievements. The mural and biographies can be seen outside Room 33.

09.01.2022 The Reception classes have been busy this week participating in NAIDOC week events and activities. We started the week off by attending a special NAIDOC assembly where we learnt about the deep spiritual connection First Nation people share with the land. The reception children have been learning about our First Nation flag and what the colours represent and what it means to First Nation people. We have been very lucky to have the staff from Nature Play SA visit us this week.... The children learnt about Kaurna Country, culture and language as they explored the wonders of making cubbies, bush tucker and the importance of collaboration and respect for each other and our country. Throughout the week we have been celebrating the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by reading stories and singing, learning to count and greet each other in Kaurna. 05.01.2022 Important Notice COVID Update 20 November 2020 The Premier today announced that schools and preschools will reopen to all students on Monday 23 November. As a result Burnside Primary School will be open and operating as normal. We will not be offering an alternative home-based learning program. OSHC will operate as usual from Monday morning before school care.... As the Chief Public Health Officer said, just because the hard lockdown is being lifted, this does not mean that the risks associated with COVID-19 have passed. Therefore we have been directed to minimise the number of people coming and going from our site. Wherever possible, please drop and collect your child at the gate and maintain the appropriate physical distance from other adults. A reminder to parents if you do come into the yard, please remain outside of all classrooms and school buildings, however you are able to enter the Front Office. I am waiting on further advice from the Department regarding excursions, events, sporting activities, use of masks and will send this to you as soon as it is available. Thank you very much for your support over the last couple of days. We look forward to having your child back at school on Monday. Kind regards, Susan Copeland Principal 20/11/20
04.01.2022 As part of the focus on animals in non-fiction texts in literacy, the students are excited to have the chickens back in the JP Building.
04.01.2022 During NAIDOC week, the Year 4s have been learning about Indigenous Australian art techniques. Our medium was watercolour paints on cartridge paper. We chose ‘earthy’ colours to represent the traditional choices of colour. Colour for Indigenous Australian art was originally sourced from local materials, using ochre or iron clay pigments to produce red, yellow and white, and black from charcoal. Our learning experience included discussions about the importance of understanding and recognising the culture of our First Nations peoples.
03.01.2022 Today the Premier Steven Marshall announced a Statewide lockdown starting at midnight tonight Wednesday 18th November through to midnight Tuesday 24th November. Schools and OSHC are closed and will only remain open for families of vulnerable children and essential workers eg: medical staff and supermarket staff, this does not include parents who will be working from home. A skeleton staff will provide supervision but not a learning program for the remainder of this week. All ...students have been sent home today with the equipment to continue their learning from home. More information on learning programs will be provided early next week, as we work our way through the new COVID-19 Directions. Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November are now classified as School Closure days, Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th November will be Pupil Free days. We expect the majority of our children will be at home and the school will only be open to children of parents who are classified as essential workers. Students who attend will be cared for but learning will not be provided. OSHC services will also be open for these children. Children who meet this requirement are to assemble outside the gymnasium at 8.50am on these days. All South Australians are making sacrifices to ensure our community remains as safe as possible. We appreciate that this is a significant undertaking for you and your family. Thank you for your continued support and understanding at this difficult time. Kind Regards, Susan Copeland - Principal
